    Good video. Next time, can you please zoom into the file so it’s easier read the items you’re pointing at. On desktop you can hardly read it. And for people viewing on mobile, the font is so small that it can’t be read at all.

    Which one is better for calc 1 cause some people are saying Sophia is good. Should I do straighterline instead?

      Either will work. Try Sophia if you already have a subscription.

    Hi Alex I've found your guide on this to be the most useful out of any creator's! Do you know if certifications can count for multiple classes? Microsoft Azure Database Admin, Oracle, etc.

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes there are some certs that can count as two classes. You can check WGU’s Transfer page but also I know for sure the Oracle cert transfers as two classes, check the spreadsheet.

    So I’m currently in the Military as an IT specialist, just basic troubleshooting nothing crazy. I did a bunch of classes already but no I have to do decide which route I wanna go before I get out
    WGU
    Software engineering degree
    Or
    Computer science
    I won’t lie software engineering looks way more intriguing to me I love the hands on and the less crazy math the better
    The computer science degree is more theory and I just don’t know enough about it.
    I’m curious what u recommend when it comes to job security and job advancement over the next 10 to 20 years
    What if I even did software engineering for now land a job and then work on computer science degree as well?
    @alex sheppe

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you want to do Software Engineering, I would do that. It might take 2-3 semesters compared to 1-2 for Computer Science, but if the Military pays for it, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Try to transfer in ACE Credits to shorten degree length.

    I recently earned my AAS in computer science and am currently deciding between computer engineering or computer science for my bachelors. I would rather work more hands on in my career, and saw a few local places hire quality engineer jobs with either of those two degrees mentioned above. Is it worth the 3 more years to complete an CE degree or would I get the same satisfaction from a CS degree?

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depends, how old are you, how much time do you have (months, years, etc), and what type of career do you want? More hardware like Computer Engineering? Or more software like Computer Science. Through ACE Credits combined with WGU or TESU, you can realistically get a degree in a year and affordable. But if you want to work on hardware and be hands-on, and have time to spare, then shoot for Computer Engineering degree. It would be harder to get Hardware jobs with a Computer Science degree, although still possible.

    • @ThaColonel
      @ThaColonel 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexsheppe I’m mid 20s , have time to spare. Though I have time to spare I really want to be sooner then later. There are a few manufacturing companies that hire on computer science majors to do quality engineer jobs near me. I like to build things with my hands but don’t mind to do software either. It’s a toss up at this point I’m afraid. I feel like there is more opportunities where I am located to get software jobs over hardware since I live in the south east.

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you're passionate about hardware and have time to spare, go with the computer engineering major. If you want a degree fast and don't mind working in software or data, go for Computer Science or Software Engineering at WGU or TESU. Also how much would your degree cost if you do Computer Engineering? WGU would be pretty cheap.

    The CS degree seems rather more math intensive. I’ve been in the IT industry for many years and just want to obtain a formal bachelor’s degree to add to my extensive IT background. How would you say the bachelors of Information technology is or the cyber security degrees? Other math is ok just not calculus which I saw on the computer science curriculum.

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just do math on one of the ace credit websites which is much easier. If you really want to skip math, the non Computer Science degrees don’t have Calculus or Discrete Math, including Software Engineering, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity.

    This is money. Thank you I’m looking at WGU to move into software engineering but have done math in years and am concerned i won’t be proficient enough with math. Are people taking math refreshers courses before starting this degree?

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you use ace credits, just learn the math as you go.

  • @iamkvn

    Hey Alex! Again great video! For calculus did you take prerequisites? Like algebra, geometry, trigonometry and pre calculus? Students were saying that in order to do calculus I’d have to brush up on those subjects first. What was your approach? And did you need a cas calculator?

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would brush up a bit on Algebra and learn a little Trig, but I kind of just dove in and winged it and learned as I went. Every problem I didn’t understand, I just studied it. Yes get a CAS Calculator.

      Thank you Alex!!! Did you start with knocking out easy classes first? or did you start with the hard ones?@@alexsheppe

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I started with easy ones and mixed in a hard one here and there. I actually saved Calculus towards the end. I was nervous to take Calculus, because if I couldn't pass it, I was probably going to do the Software Development degree instead (now called Software Engineering degree). However, the Software Engineering degree is very job-acceptable compared to before. "Software Development" is not a degree companies look for, but Software Engineering is one of the degree names that passes the HR checkbox. I'm glad WGU made that change.

      The enrollment counselor I spoke to, Dustin (he says he's the only one with IT work experience), said I could brush up with precalculus using Khan academy.

    For the certifications, I noticed that you've listed two of them twice. For example an Oracle Certified Associate: Java SE 8 would transfer for both Java Fundamentals and Scripting and Programming - Applications. Does that mean that completing the certification applies to both classes?

    • @alexsheppe
      @alexsheppe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Correct. It was count as basically 6 credits. At least that’s how it was explained to me back then.
