    Holy SHIT Josh. What an incredibly smart way to approach the learning. I was one of those "muscle through your problems" guys that would spend 5-6 trying to figure out what is wrong with my algorithm/how to implement it. The way you showed in the video is extremely time-efficient, structured and really helps you inculcate the actual implementation of the solutions. Thank you so much for sharing this. I think this video proves something indirectly that is sometimes debated online. I see people on reddit sometimes debating if WGU is respected for CS and if large companies are willing to hire programmers with degrees from WGU. Well, Josh has interviewed at some major companies, I think this helps build confidence in people choosing a CS degree from WGU. Granted, some people will discount what I just said with something like _"Josh already has a strong technical employment history"_ . Let me ask, did many questions about your Bachelors in Computer Science from WGU come up during these interviews? Thanks.

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! that's pretty much what I was trying to convey, nobody really cares about where your degree is from as long as all the other stuff is in place (portfolio, resume, algo skill etc.) Not a single person (potential employer) in my life has every said anything negative about my degrees being from WGU. It's a humongous meme that people think that matters lol.. Thanks again for the comment and for watching!

    I have been told many times that I need at least a 4.0 GPA to get a job in a IT career and that kind of expectation is unrealistic because some schools have a +- system where it is very difficult to get a 4.0 GPA even if you have a 90-93 in the class. I think I am better off just getting an internship to make up for lack of 4.0 GPA.

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You don't even need to care about your GPA. The fact that you have a degree is enough. Look at me, I didn't even graduate high school and I have a degree from a school that won't give you over 3.0. If you have enough skill/portfolio, you can definitely get interviews, then it's all up to your presentation and stuff at that point. (Once you get the interview, your credentials are no longer even considered really.) Good luck!

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey again! It really depends! But entry level in Florida, depending on exactly where, I would probably be pleased with 70k or above, as a BRAND NEW person. I def need to do more research on this, so there might be a standard deviation of 10k or so, but this seems about right. For general IT, maybe 10k or so less. I’d check out indeed though :)

      actually used this:
      CodeWithMosh Ultimate Data Structures and Algorithms: codewithmosh.com/p/data-structures-algorithms?affcode=146684_b7chi0ze
      And as you suspected, I did use the crash course a bit, but it was very minimal: www.algoexpert.io/data-structures
      I have dealt with data structures a little bit before, but when I started, I couldn't really solve any of the algoexpert questions myself lmao. Maybe like 5 of them or something.

How does that work when you’re 50 problems in and you want to start problem #51. Do you do the other 50 before you start #51 or some other set amount?

    Were you fortunate enough receive the job offers on the same week? Or, did you do a little bit of finessing to stall time between each offer?
    How were you able to convey to them that you were entertaining other offers, knowing in your back of your mind that there is a definite deadline to either accept or decline?

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Jason! Nope, they were all spread out and some of the companies were being lame about it. I told Tenable I needed 2 weeks and they seemed to be OK with it. they gave me an offer below what I asked for, so I told them I was going to finish my interviews and get back to them. There was some other weird communication with the recruiter, then they ended up hiring someone else while I was interviewing. I would have worked for them if they continued to negotiate salary with me. Worked out in the end though I guess lol. I was really transparent and up-front with everyone. I don't even care at this point. I also told microsoft, "I'm interviewing with google, but if you give me 180k base, I'll stop and come work for you. They agreed, so I did. Haha. A lot of people try to be cloak and dagger about their salary negotiation, pending offers etc, but I generally don't care. Maybe I should though, haha

    Let's go again, do you think if someone can fully benefit from AE with beginners' programming knowledge?

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jason! AE kinda requires some basic level of programming skill. they have a whole section on algorithm primers that supposed to prepare you to be able to understand/answer the questions, but it won't make sense to someone who is BRAND brand new. If you have completed a full python tutorial somewhere that's good, it should be enough to get started, but it kinda depends. AE has another product called Programming Expert (I think), but I've never used it. Codewithmosh (free or paid) is probably good enough baseline knowledge. Hope this helps!

      Hey Christina! From AlgoExpert, I did 25/25 Easies, 28/55 Mediums, and 5/46 Hards, but I did these _many_ times each. Imagine like 10-20x each, over, and over, and over. And yes, your strategy will work with Blind 75 + Neetcode. Just make sure you understand and get to the point where you can implement all of the algos off the top of your head. It just takes intentional repetition and understanding and you can get there. Repetition is magical. Good luck!

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Harry, thanks for watching! This is a great question. I'm actually building a course on how to get a job in tech and I cover this exact topic: What you described are three separate pillars of "how to get a job"
      1. Social Network
      2. Application Execution
      3. Consistency
      The better these pillars are executed, the faster you will get a job. They aren't mutually exclusive or even required, but they all help. If you don't have the energy to do all three at max performance, I would probably "max out" points 2 and 3. An Excellent Application strategy (different resumes every job matching keywords, detailed spreadsheet for tracking, etc.), then be consistent with it.
      Having said that, if you are the type of person who actually enjoys reaching out to ppl (which I dont... lol), Social Network is potentially the most powerful tool of all, it's just a pain in the ass.
      I feel I didn't really answer your question directly, but hopefully I gave something to think about, haha :)

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would be willing to put a LARGE amount of money on "yes", it would work. This method has worked with language learning as well. For example, I learned 2k sentences in another language, then I was able to make completely new sentences on-the-fly based on the 2k I previously committed to memory. Of course this took a long time, but it worked. I think it's kind of how babies/kids learn as well. Learn ABC, then they are able to derive DEF on their own. The human brain is really neat in this way.
