In my experience 99% of the bosses I’ve had have been terrible leaders who would never take that approach... and they wonder why the working man is so miserable.
Shoot move communicate. Take care of the man on your left and right before the fight. Watch your field of fire. Spread out. Conserve distribute water ammo. Remember the basics.
The comment about placing a front line replacement in a defensive position for a few days to get him acclimated and help disspell the crazy rumor mill jargon is priceless. If I had a new guy, I'd put him on bravo team laying suppressive fire, while the experience guys stayed in Alpha team to do the assault. That way he could observe assaulting while getting shot at while being the guy laying suppressive fire, while basically staying safer than the assault guy. Then I'd ask him what he'd learned and how confident he felt he was running point. Excellent observation. Thank you for mentioning the importance of acclimating a guy when he gets to the front
In my 20s my boss would stress oncross training. Not many would take ownership of anything more then they’re “ job description”. I took the advice ran with it. After I left no one knew how to do my job and when they finally figured it out they hired (2) people to cover my position. I’m in my 40s now and I still have this belief. My current employer does acknowledge how much I do and pretty much allowes me to be independent. A good example of “discipline = FREEDOM”. I love what I do.
as a 17 year old Infantryman serving in Korea 1975/76, we'd rotate duty on the DMZ, Fence, Patrol an GP Duty 1/31st Inf Mech at Camp Greaves/Liberty Bell an when Our Company C Co. was on the Z or we were in the field Training an never forget that winter, them fuckin bunkers an defensive positions in 40 below with the Hawk (wind) killing everything it touches wondering how in the fuck did these men fight a war in this shit, learned a lot about the world around me during that year.
With the respect of command, comes the burden of responsibility. My Dad went into the hills of the islands of the South Pacific to toss grenades & bomb packs into caves. He didn't tell his commander "that's not my MOS", he said yes sir. (USN SeaBee 42-46) Jocko, I wish my Dad was still alive & could come on your podcast so people could hear what "The Greatest Generation" did to "save the world". During WW2 SeaBees were NOT issued weapons (at 1st) but as my Dad told me, "when you're wearing your friends brains & guts on your face & uniform, you're ready to do anything & fight anyone wearing the wrong uniform". To us civilians, all service people are heroes but most, if not all those who've served say the heroes are those who didn't come home, as Bob Feller always said.
Thanks Jocko for another amazing video. I can only watch half now but I'll finish it up when I get home. You e helped me, my workplace. My family. ❤️🇺🇸❤️
Interesting point about gunfire and someone not use it jumping at the sound of it. I got use to the sound of gunfire growing up with hunters in my family, but I can't how nervous I was when I was about fire my 38 Special. Now I'm completely comfortable it and my other fire arms. I guess there is something to be said for familiarity and experience.
Eight Ball: A solider who gets into trouble so much that he's a liability to his unit; from the old notion that it is bad luck to be behind the eight ball in pocket billiards
Shit my pants earlier. Looked in the mirror and screamed at myself until I put my ego in check. Gave the Indian restaurant 5 stars for the dinner last night anyways. I take ownership. I couldn’t handle the spices. I have a weak stomach. Something you have to overcome in order to stop the runs.
Too reinerate what echo was saying about extreme ownership I have had 1 situation in my life where I knew the reason why everything fell apart was completely my fault and I didn't say anything at the moment and I walked away and felt sick to my stomach about not owning my mistake and I ended up going back 7 mins later and took ownership and just like jocko said he knew I screwed up and was waiting for me to take ownership of it and commended me for doing so and told me next time I need to be 6 mins and 59 seconds sooner lol hasn't happened since and never will

Can you please start uploading to rumble? I know you don't like to get political but youtube is pretty awful when it comes to free speech. I know your a busy pair of dudes but it would only benefit the fine organization y'all have built over the years. Thank you, keep up the fantastic work.
I wonder what Jocko thinks about the woke military 😳 doubt he'd say anything. He seems to me to be very respectful of the military, which I get. But id love to hear his opinion
Echo Charles is a good dude.
One of the best bosses I've had said , you should always be training your replacement.
It's surprising how many people don't get that.
that's a great piece of advice actually
In my experience 99% of the bosses I’ve had have been terrible leaders who would never take that approach... and they wonder why the working man is so miserable.
My boss says that to me all the time. He’s also the best mentor I’ve had. He has the respect of everyone in the company. It’s such great advice.
Jocko, your podcast should be required listening in high schools!!
Jocko listening sessions for seniors would be legit!
Shoot move communicate. Take care of the man on your left and right before the fight. Watch your field of fire. Spread out. Conserve distribute water ammo. Remember the basics.
Or just be like tilt or dick Thompson and carry 700 rounds and 15 grenades and just mow your way out with bullets haha
Just have good instincts of who knows what the fuck they're doing and listen well.
I am always satisfied with the content on this channel. I watch as much as possible. Keep up the great work guys!!
Is it weird that my favorite podcasts are usually the ones with just Echo and Jocko?

When will Echo take extreme ownership of the awkward tangents? 😅
The ownership is the continuation of awkward tangents lol
He will always own them. I don't want him to stop them haha
His comic relief is one of my favorite parts of the podcasts.
Awesome. In the gym, commuting, working on the house I'm listening. Readin. Just getting after it. You guys are the business. Thanks Jocko and Echo.
Jocko and Echo illustate again and again how important and useful it is to fight your ego and take ownership!
Jocko for president.
I can see Echo's biceps from the podcast with David Goggins from here!
Love this cast look forward to it every week. The unraveling is awesome too.

The best advice I ever received?
"Remember your front sight"
43:40 in the book, "Starship Troopers" the ship Rico serves aboard is called the Roger Young. I never knew the story behind that till now.

Great podcast
People exaggerate for all kinds of reasons, but usually it is with the intent (good or bad) of manipulating the person (or people) listening to them.
Demonstration good one Echo
Excellent Echo

I got eczema though.
It's probably your diet. Try not eating corn, or anything corn fed, including eggs.
Take extra vitamin D. Helped me.
I wonder what Jocko thinks about the woke military 😳 doubt he'd say anything. He seems to me to be very respectful of the military, which I get. But id love to hear his opinion
He doesn't want to rock the boat perhaps, I hope he covers it though.
It’s trash. Degrading, demoralizing, degenerate, etc.
32:58 thank me later
