I changed my thermostat out today, when I got it all back together my coolant temperature read normal after a minute of running, but as I drove the car my temperature went almost all the way cold. I’m thinking air bubbles or maybe bad sensor but if it’s a bad sensor why would it read good temp then go cold
Usually, running to cool indicated a thermostat that is stuck open. So if it keeps running cool, I would change it out. Getting a brand new part that is defective is not out if the question.
@@thejungleexplorer so just an update. After I replaced my thermostat and had the problems described above, I decided to change my coolant temperature sensor. After I replaced the temp read normal for as long as I drove it that day. Now it reads very sporadically in which sometimes reads normal operating temp for moments at a time. Today the check engine light came on. It runs and drives normal so I have still been driving. Also when I replaced the sensor it looked like some kind of white liquid was coming out from the sensor and I’m not sure if I broke it lol. So I’m going to take the part back and get another to try again. Any thoughts other than defective parts or defective mechanic ?
Got a customer same car and it doesn't overheat in idle but starts to raise the temperature once he drives but when he parks or in idle it goes back to normal temperature does this sound like he got air trapped inside or definetly the thermostat ? He bought the thermostat which was only 19$ and the head gasket to just in case
@brooklyn7941 It is hard to say. Sounds like his radiator may be clogged. Did he use any kind of radiator Stop Leak treatment? Has added any water to the system?
The best instructions I’ve seen given by anyone clear, concise straightforward no bullshit. Excellent job.. Now a little upset that I have already called a mechanic to come do what could be so easily done
Thanks for the video. Cars have gotten newer and more complicated while I've gotten older and more simple minded so I can't do much on our cars anymore. After getting an estimate of $300 to diagnose the problem with my car, even though I told them I just want the thermostat, which is the problem, changed, I decided to research it and after watching your video decided I can do it myself. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing this excellent video! I just changed the thermostat in my wife’s car, and your video gave me all the information and confidence I needed. Thank you again!!
I have a friend who has the same car and I already replaced the radiator for him and a water inlet hose and for some weird reason the temp rises when he goes past 4 th gear but when he at idle or parked th e temp goes back to normal is that mean he got air in the system or the thermostat is bad? He bought both the head gasket and the thermostate just in case I seen it yesterday leaking out the resirvor I checked it earlier today and topped it off and it didn't leak
What if you discover a leak? What did you do wrong? I try this yesterday and my car is overheating and I can see that there is a leak from the gasket area.
If you remove the negative battery connection first you have less chance of shorting the connections (making sparks). No need to worry if your metal tool contacts anything metal if you are removing the negative clamp, well unless you touch it to the positive side of the battery.

Very helpful. Thanks for posting!
Is sealant neccassary on the gasket?
It is recommended.

It may be possible that your water pump is out.

@@thejungleexplorer You're welcome.
Do you need to drain the coolant before changing the thermostat?
No. You can if you want to but it is not absolutely necessary.
@@thejungleexplorer Thank you!
Did you put all that crab inside the air filter housing? cause that is impossible getting inside there. it's too difficult to see what you did.
Thank you for commenting iris baez!
