Just got the umg10 myself. C Chand/rc4wd makes a really nice grill for the Unimog 406 look. I think it's more accurate. I ordered one as well as side markers and side grills. . I like the portal axle change you're doing I'm considering what axle to go with but I DO need portals as well.....I mean, .....its a unimog! Goodluck with it.
It looks good. You should mount the axles first and make sure the pinion angles are good, then mount the portal boxes to make sure they are vertical and the caster is good.
Definitely need softer front Springs, IMO. 80mm Shocks will help too. I really like that setup!! I can assume that the Portal ends will fit the SCX10 II ORIGINAL Kit 3pc Axles.... You've obviously got a lot of experience! One thing I noticed, that will only show up later.... You need to adjust the front Portals. If you look at it from the side, without Wheels, you've got some serious NEGATIVE Caster. You want at least 15-20° of Positive Caster on the Front Suspension. I'm not sure, but swinging the Draglink up by swinging the Portals, *might* give the Panhard a little more clearance... Although I'm with you, axle mounting the Servo will give you the most clearance. You'll probably want to relocate the Battery Tray, to give the Servo more up travel. ..... Just suggestions. 😉 I'm sure you have already thought this through. Carmine 🚂🚙
So I adjusted the portal boxes after I got done filming. I just did it this way to help with video length. And yes I think my springs are one of the main issues. Axle mount is probably the answer for me. I may build myself a bend panhard bar to help with some compression.
I figured that you saw the Caster issue... But in case anyone reads these, I thought it would be a good idea to mention it. Maybe a newer person could use the information. How do you like that Power Driver? Mine's slowing down....
Excellent video, thoroughly enjoyed, just a shame you spend all this money on the kit and then chuck out the stock axles right away. I'd be happy to spend a little more on the kit if it included quality axles like the ones you've added.

Sometime dosen't look quite right with the driver's side ...look like the hole axel is pushed to the passenger side....could be the camera shot but the shocks are pushed to one side....I like the unimog but iys a little to short needs to be 12 plus inches...
So turns out my shocks had all kinds of wrong rates on it. i have changed the fronts to whites (soft) and the rear to neutral. One more reason to dislike CMS. Im having a hard time not just going axle mount. I will glance at it in a little bit with the body on it again.

Well thats an opinion for sure. To a bunch of folks its a huge upgrade. Its not a big deal to me either way. The portals made this truck as scale as it could be since MOG's come with portals.

After I put everything together I redid all that. I had them together to try and make the video not be any longer than it already was. Lol

Traxxas portal boxes are huge! They handle 6s though. With the original sintered gears if you treat it good. If you upgrade them its on!

Yeah I agree in a way. But that is also the joy and great thing about a kit. You can change and add whatever you want from the get go.
Did the portals add width to the track of the axles compared to stock AR44 axles?
It does add a little bit but it is pretty minimal.

Why didn't you convert to 4 link in the front?
I kept it cms for a while. Then sold it. The plan was to go axle mount though for sure.
Longer wheelbase will lower it.

Every axle has a con. Sorry. But that is your opinion. Thats how those work. Everyone is entitled to them as well.

Well the Cog doesnt have to be destroyed either. I have ways to fix that as well.
