- The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues in Minecraft 1.20.2!
In this tutorial, we browse a complete collection of Armor Trim patterns, then learn how to customise banners, apply a design to a shield, and use banners as map markers.
I share my opinions on every Armor Trim design, including the rare Silence Armor Trim, discuss which armor trims you need to get the Smithing With Style advancement, and why that's a good reason to go looking for armor trim smithing templates.
We then move on to look at banner design using the Loom block, exploring how to add designs and layer them to create world flags in Minecraft, or design your own custom banner to represent you! We look at adding these to shields, and why the design can sometimes look different when applied to a shield.
We also explore how banners can be used as map markers in Minecraft Java Edition, and finally I recommend a couple of online tools to help you design banners and armor trims without spending expensive resources on a trial-and-error process in game.

29:24 - In 1.20 Trails & Tales Update, Bedrock Edition has received the feature of adding Banner designs to Shields. Currently in Bedrock Edition, Banners *cannot* be used to mark Waypoints on Maps at the moment. But there is a work around on Bedrock...
You can place copies of *Locator Maps* on Item Frames at the landmark you want to have it marked. When you place a Locator Map on an Item Frame, it shows a green pointer on the map as well as the direction of where the item frame was facing. These green pointers can be placed multiple times on the *EXACT SAME* Locator Map with their copies placed on Item Frames. If you created a new Map that is in the same area, it will not show these green pointers. It has to be the exact copies of the same Locator Map.
It is a bit of a *nightmare* in my opinion with this current method on Bedrock, so hopefully in 1.21, we get the Waypoints feature that Java Edition has. It is on the Minecraft Feedback website, so I recommend voting it and express to the developers about this feature being absent on Bedrock. How are you supposed to tell your friends where to go on that map if they are all just going to be green pointers?
The locators for multiple maps was bug fixed because people were stacking locators to make hectic lag machines for servers
Thanks though was wondering if we did get the waypoints, hopefully soon
Pix making the Brazilian flag and putting it on a shield... you really played this one for the crowd and I loved it!
Both armor trims and banner patterns add a lot of aesthetic creative gameplay to minecraft outside of just the typical block placing and I really like their addition to the game because of that. I hope we get more systems like these in the future where the player's creativity is given a lot more tools and systems to play around with.
Relay loved the skul banner patern from season 1 on the shield 😊
Yea bruh
Thank you for the video and explanation of the banners. It has been too long since I have played around with that function :)
Have a lovely week Pix
27:14 I love how piglin casually see in the opposite direction, when you hang the thing banner in your storage
I think the Wild Jungle Trim (Wild Trim) has an Ocelot face in it. Kitty!
29:24 i can confirm that we can mark banners on maps but im unsure if labeling it works
My favorite composition of
netherite-armor armor-trim:
- Gold Shaper - Chastplate,
- Netherite Shaper - Boots,
- Gold Host - Helmet,
- Gold Silence - Pants.
very nice video again - rly enjoyed it!
For the vex armor trim display, curious how it would look on leather armor all dyed black?
The chestplate would definitely look good - but other pieces of leather armour leave parts of their texture uncoloured, like the knees on leggings and a central stripe on the helmet. Up to you how those look, but it would probably bug me too much
I reallly like making a huge map of my area and those markers are awesome. I need to do that! Thanks loads. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. Ya know I don't know where anyone lives. If you live here in US - have a great Thanksgiving - if not - have a wonderful day anyways on Thursday! :-) See you later Pixl!!!
Very informative video, thank you!
21:11 Let it be Carnage! 🕷️🩸
Does adding gold to a trim to an armor set made fully up of iron, diamond or netherite prevent the pigmen in the nether from attacking you? Its got gold in it
I really like the tide armor trim bc it kinda looks like wizard robes. I hadn't even considered it looking like prismarine.
Rib to me is the most disappointing. Its design is so good for cyberpunk armor, but it's too dark to be like neon stripes.
I also don't really like Silence, it's too busy and noisy for me. Though it could be cool on a display of an epic hero.
I agree with you about Silence, creators seem to love it but it looks too gaudy for me. Though they all look more like American football shirts than trims on actual armour.
If the notch apple banner pattern is called "thing" in English, is it literally called "mojang" in Swedish in-game?
Disappearing Piglin at 20:30!!!
He belongs to the storage now
What happened to New Life?
I never got any momentum with the series. I started later than everyone else because I was finishing up on Empires. At the same time I was focused on relaunching Survival Guide for Season 3, spent almost a month without my PC when it needed repairs, then was without internet for a week.
By that point everyone else had made two months of progress and I didn't think it was worth catching up.
2 second gang down here
👍😊👍

Pin?
another point about shields: put mending and unbreaking on your shield just to be sure your newly made custom shield will never break! (unless you die to lava) xD
If you repair the shield in an anvil instead of the crafting grid you won't lose the banner pattern. Mending is still a good idea, though.
I had no idea that Brazil flag was so easy to craft! Obrigado Pix!
And the only way to have some kind of map marker in Bedrock is to make copies of a map and place them in frames inside that map area. They'll appear as green dots, and can't be labeled.
I was today years old when I learned you could undo banner mistakes with a cauldron. I appreciate learning this greatly.
The other banner pattern that Pix didn't mention is the World banner pattern... can be obtained from trading with Cartographers, at Master level I think.
I still need to do a bit of hunting for smithing templates, been really unlucky with the Pigin Bastions, got the upgrade a few times, but not the other one, and I've not managed to find Dune or Rib yet either. And when I'm feeling brave I need to raid some ancient cities 😄
Thanks for showing the backs of the trimmed armor. I haven't seen any other video about them that does that. 👍
I was hoping that when they added the ability to put banner patterns on shields in Bedrock edition that they would fix the "squished" pattern problem and just trim off the outer pixel border in both versions, but instead they chose to propagate the problem onto Bedrock. :( There are so many cool patterns that could be put on shields if they'd fix that!
For the armor trim display, I think you could have done Black-dyed leather armor to really help the designs stand out.
I love the fact that the silence trim plays with negative space in its design
My son will love the Brazil's flag banner. Thanks, Pix! And kudos from Brazil!
I like the Eye trim in gold on pants - looks like wallet on chains in your pocket! Did you cover copying banner designs? I always forget to make copies then stick it on my shield, and don't quite remember how I did it a week later! The things people come up with on banners is astonishingly creative, I'm in awe scrolling through the Planet Minecraft gallery!
Fun Fact: "Mojang" in Sundanese, means "Girl" in English. Sundanese is the local language of the people who lives in West Java, Indonesia.
I thought it you said Sudanese at first 💀
Was this an episode of 'Fun with Flags'?
The silence trim looks really good on iron armor
Ive finally put my first design on my shield!!
I forgot you could mark banners on a map. Also I personally think the jungle temple armor trim is one of the cleanest. Not too over the top but still nice. (Yes it’s not “junglish” tho).
on an smp my friend hosted for a few weeks, i made banner shields for everyones country of origin (Canada, United States, Oman)
its also fun to make as many country flags as you can
Pix: it lets you label things in your world, and i think thatès a really fun thing to do
me (autistic): oh HELL yeah
18:51 Brazil !!! 💚💛💚💛
Have you considered adding stairs to the 1 block strips between each module of thr sheep farms? Great episode
Thanks for showing the Brazilian frag on your video
COME TO BRAZIL
This was one comprehensive, packed and informative guide! Thank you!
HE HAS THE SHIELD!!!!
For Sentry Armor Trim, the Headpiece design is actually the same design as the Armored Pillagers from Minecraft Dungeons with a gold or diamond trim depending on their tier
and as for Snout Armor Trim, the leggings design looks similar to the Golden Belts of Piglin Brutes
Dear pox, you make my work commute bearable
Chain armor also in treasure chests bro ok
The Vex armor trim could also look good on black dyed leather armor.
I've been playing Minecraft since 2011, I don't watch these videos as an absolute beginner, and yet I'm still learning new things thanks to your tips! This is the first time I've learned about removing banner layers with the cauldron - super handy!
So, it took a while but I’ve got my armor trims set for my main set. I have a black jacket and a migrator cape, so my colors are primarily black, with gold accents and a touch of red in the cape/elytra. So, on my netherite set, i use gold Dune on my helmet, and gold Tide on my leggings and boots. I also have a golden Nether helmet trimmed with Silence using netherite material. I can definitely vouch that a netherite set with the Migrator cape looks incredible trimmed with gold material
Here are what I put on my netherite armor:
Helmet: Tide trim with gold (love it)
Chest: Vex trim with redstone (love it)
Pants: Snout trim with gold (love it)
Boots: Shaper trim with emerald (use this because I have a lot)
I have got all trims except for the Silence trim, which I am working on. I have only raided 2 Ancient Cities so far, no luck yet.
Loving this series!!! In case you don’t get to drop a new episode beforehand, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
When you were calling the one banner a monster all I could think is OH ITS SPIDERMAN!
Brazil mentioned,be prepared for us brazilians to start appearing from the ground like mobs :v
🎉
the way the game handles applying banners to shields is genuinely so annoying :')) i wish they'd just let us have pattern consistency and ignore pixel density accuracy on the shield
This Is Great Keep Up The Great Work 👍
I pray that we see an endermen farm soon dude, love the bingo streams but I would not mind not seeing the slow mending process with the current skeleton farm. Hate to backseat but hate the slowness of the skeletonfarm alot more
Would love to see how you would do that map room that you mention in this video.
Wake up babe, new survival guide episode just dropped.
Thanks sweetheart
I love this comment ❤️
Thanks babe
For having kids😂😂

Is it possible to copy your custom pattern onto a Banner Pattern so you have a blueprint?
I remember Dinnerbone once mentioning that there isn't necessarily a "correct" pronunciation for Mojang, and that we could pronounce it "Moswigglybanana" if we wanted to.
That's a very diplomatic answer from him, but I'm pretty sure they confirmed the official pronunciation in one of the 'Ask Mojang' videos on the Minecraft TH-cam channel.
this is such a great video explaining this stuff I could not figure it out, thanks
Is there any way to make a cat face banner bc I’m on bedrock and I play as a Siamese cat
I know someone who works at mojang and when they get asked what they do they say I work at moyang
Although iron looks good, I was hoping for netherite xD
I like how Pix gave us a Swedish language lesson. At 26:52
Since it's "all esthetic" I'm guessing a gold armor trim wouldn't keep the piglins off your back?
Unfortunately not.
Why is the silence arm trim different on bedrock?
On the topic of armor and banner aesthetics I would love to learn how to desighn a minecraft skin for java edition bedrock is so fun with all. the great items you can buy but java obviously you have to make your own skins or maybe download a skin someone has made everytime I try it's terrible any tips tricks or resources would be great .
Find one you like then edit it to your own tastes. It's fun playing around with all the possibilities.
Hello from Brazil! Surprise flag!
you can crouch and click on the armor stands to change their arm positions. Just do it once and the arms will fold downward straight.
Doesn't happen on Java Edition. Only on Bedrock
Pix: dinosaur armor
my loz brain: lizalfos armor
Netherite armor with gold and Silence armor trim looks amazing. Also looks amazing with diamond.
I hope that jumper never wears out
Dose this really work??
big win for Brazil let's goooo
20:35 Polish banner! (I'm polish lol)
Thank you for another amazing episode Pixl, my day is significantly better now, i love the and educative format of your videos.
Sending good vibes from Scotland 💙🤍💙
This was a hell of an episode, very fun!
This may be getting too close to D&D, but I feel trims were a missed opportunity to reset and establish more complex and unique purpose to armor.
I'd love if trims gave some unique stat boost (e.g. pillager trim gives trading discount, ward gives warden damage reduction, Rib increases chance of wither skull drop, etc). Maybe make it required to have a full set or something.
It also could have been used to give lessor armor purpose again. Logically, only leather armor should be able to have swift sneak, since a full suite of armor is almost comically loud. Pair that with a full Silence trim could make you super stealthy.
This is why I get hooked over armor trims. They are so cool that you can just add a color and a template to them. Now will say mostly the chest plates have a lot of design than the others just because it shows more. I want to get all the ones I can before fighting the dragon usually but sometimes that can take awhile so I don’t know how to manage that. Also I didn’t not their was a website for pre look at armor trims on certain armor definitely gonna use that
Lastly, my top 4 armor trims is Rib, Silence, Ward/Eye, and Snout, but not sure about which equipment I’d put it on. I don’t have a theme really for my character besides like.. dragon type things or mythological
I thought I knew everything about Minecraft, but I didn't know you could wash off layers of a banner in a cauldron!
omg brazil mentioned hiiiiii
Mine trim has one drawback, it doesn’t do leather armor. Trims can be put on leather armor as well as dyed, thus way too many combinations.
Have fun
I always think of the snout helmet trimming as piglin ears, not "lizard eyes".
It's strange that the skull pattern explicitly needs a wither skeleton skull, considering regular skeleton skulls are easier to obtain since 1.19, even in peaceful mode.
BRAZIL MENTIONED
Hey Pixlriffs I have a fun idea decoration for your base using the banners why not use the banner designs from Empires smp Season 1 and 2 as like a museum display
8:50 I actually use this darkening effect for my armor trim to get a gradient with lapis helmet through diamond rib chestplate down to diamond boots
I like the asymmetrical design, kinda like the shield has been battered and seen a bit of wear from fighting mobs and such
The rib armor trim is my favorite! Thanks for showing all the sets.
Ive picked up the eye armor trim
Is it possible to copy banners?
Yes, but you have to use the crafting table not the loom.
Still prefer the old banner crafting method before the loom 😢
Finally
I like the Aqua trim the most as it is the one that matches my skin the most.
Really enjoy your vids, thank you
armour trims are cool because they add a new interesting and coveted type of loot to all the generated structures we’ve had for years. I still think they should not be craftable and only be able to be found in chests, as the recipe with all the diamonds feels really modded. however I do appreciate the endgame use for diamonds
Yeah diamonds definitely needed to be reinvigorated. After a while it was like you had no use for diamonds and deep layer mining
Excellent video as always! ❤❤
32 minutes of yapping
You turned up to a tutorial series and expected me not to talk huh
@@Pixlriffs you yapped about nothing for like 10 minutes while only opening your inventory twice. The video could have easily been 8 minutes max if you just got to the damn point lol.
Another difference with Bedrock and Java is that two of the patterns Java has pre-loaded in the loom (the brick and wavy edge) need to be crafted as actual banner patterns in Bedrock. A bit of paper and a piece of vine get you the wavy edges, and a bit of paper with a brick block get you the brick pattern. It’s a little frustrating having that extra step, they take up more space in my banner box. But going down the rabbit hole that is banner patterns has been a great time for me so far! I actually need to come up with some kind of art museum build to house all of the banners in for display purposes.
I've hung them around my "Great Hall". The banners of all my "allies".
@@craigds3745 that’s a good idea and sounds like it looks amazing! I have over 50 right now and I’m still making more as I find or think of designs.
