I think the priest got this wrong, he probably wanted to be inclusive. Best approach would have been to encourage other tribes to sing their songs too.
No, this is not about inclusivity, it's about hatred for the Igbos. But the stupidity here is that, other tribes hate Igbos and Igbos are agitating to go be on their own yet it is a problem.
Tundun said so well, in the Netherlands there is a catholic church called African house where all African Catholics worship. What the priest did was make every tribe have their own choir and make them sing Sunday after Sunday.
Those Igbo people who are still fooling themselves that they are accepted in Nigeria, should be bold enough to see the writing on the wall. Fortunately, majority of Igbos know this already
When has singing in one's native language become a sin against God, or a crime against the Church board? It's a pity how we keep making ridicule of ourselves.
I think there is a discrimination in Catholic and non igbo priest are at the new living end. I spoke with one priest and what I am hearing is not good so we need to look into it. Even if igbo is majority in that church that should not give them the right to be singing igbo song all the time because the few non igbo will be marginalised

Thank God the Reverend has been suspended, if not, just give an order for all the marginalised Igbos in the Church to quit the church and the church will go down and will never rise again in that very parish, and the church will go bankrupt without them.
Absolutely ridiculous ,the reverend father should be banned for ever , kicked out of the Catholic Church for discrimination and being anti igbo, the church ,my church,Catholic Church ,should not tolerate this kind of behavior from a man of God who is supposed to unify all people, their should not be politics of division in the church.
Singing Ibo songs should not be an issue in the Church for him to have stopped them only God knows other things that went with it. But suspending him is too hash an action. Anyway he's not going to loose anything for he is a priest forever like the other of Melchizedec. Knowing Ibos as a tribe, if you give them parlor in your own house, they will take your bedroom from you, then one should think twice before you judge. They overdo that speaking/singing in Ibo language, anywhere and anyhow too.

I feel for Rev. Anelu, for not being able to participate in the funeral ceremony he went to attend because he couldn't speak Igbo, I have personally experienced that severally myself, I simply blow it off anytime things such as these happen. All tribes need to be sensitive to the feelings of others and act accordingly. Before people start writing ugly comments, I would suggest they go and watch the entire video on other channels, not the summary and opinion presented here by Arise News.
As an Igbo, if the priest wants to sing in Yoruba.. let him sing in Yoruba. Why do people care so much what language is being used, Yoruba is an amazing language to sing in as in any other nigerian language. This isn't news and is being blown out of proportion. However, I can see why some people may find this scandalous but it's really not a big deal, it's unlikely the priest intended to be discriminatory. One Nigeria One Love!
Sir, that parish, Holy Trinity Catholic Church Ewu-Owa is a stone throw to my house and is where I attend Masses. The allegation against the priest is uncalled for, we need to check ourselves as Catholics and not allow sentiment and tribalism to separate us, we should not be doing things that will bring our priests down. I was present at the Mass and right inside the church when the incidence occurred, What the priest was agitating for is a balance, what is the point when you are singing and some people did not understand what the contents are, particularly when you are in your own soil. When almost 95% of the songs are in Igbo language. The priest I gathered has been telling them to balance it because of the indegines in the church but to no avail, I even gathered that he use to be with them at choir practices where they select hymns/songs prior to Sunday Masses but they contradicted this on Sunday and that was when stopped the person singing at that time. NOT THAT HE BANNED IGBO SONGS. All he has been trying to make them understand is balancing. He made instances of some areas in the east where Masses are said in Igbo language, are there no yorubas or people from other tribes there? they don't have to complain but to flow with the Mass. It was a very sad experience to see people walking out of the church when Mass was still ongoing and gathering in groups outside the church and in the compound shouting and discussing. All efforts made by the priest to explain to them fell on deaf ears, until he was forced to end the Mass. We should be guided on our attitudes particularly when it comes to the issue of tribes and the church. I am of the opinion that the Chancery took that decision in hastily and was misguided probably by some "powerful" elements in the church, now playing into the hands of sensational Journalism. I fear for the future of the church if things like this continue happening. I am a trained journalist and I know what is news when I see one, I wasn't told this but I was right in on the spot. We really need to pray for the church, as Nigeria factors is now threatening her existence. Pax Christi Copied!!!
In North America DJ play Nigeria music in all night klub.. Everyone likes it both white and black, but in Nigeria we're not doing what is right I keep telling everyone the problem of Nigeria is religious leaders and politicians. Thank you
The Police should arrest the Catholic Priest forthwith for making a classical HATE SPEECH AGAINST "Ndi-igbo". If AGF Malami and Police IG can not do this do, this then their Hate speech law was born a still birth.
Me suspect this former priest is a representative of larger groups. The Church hierarchy needs to fish these evil assembly out. He's not alone. GET THEM NOW AND GET THEM OUT.... Out of the abundant of the heart the Mouth speaks.... The Holy Bible
That is the extent the Igbo phobia in Nigeria has gone. The Priest alleged Igbo domination, but when it comes to fund raising for the church he remembers the importance of Igbos in in his church. This is not the first of its kind outside Igbo land.
I am not yoruba but it is so good what has happened. Let the so called igbos get a taste of their tribalism because the way they are going in this country when it comes to tribalism, the only people that can match them when it comes to tribalism are the fulani people. Now they denied the reverend father from saying a mass in the southeast because he couldn't speak igbo and now they are complaining the parish priest denied them from singing igbo songs in his church. It serves them right. Igbo people and the fulani people are the major problems Nigeria has when it comes to tribalism in this country and these two groups should get a taste of their own medicine anytime they call for it. They are becoming a liability to the entire nation.
Why is it that many IGBOS have not yet understood the hand writing on the wall? When will you guys learn?!!! LOOK INWARDS!! UNITE (IN EVERYTHING)!!! HAVE ONE VOICE!! LOVE ONE ANOTHER!!! GO HOME AND REBUILD YOUR HOME!! THE WHOLE WORLD WILL COME TO YOU!!! everyone knows who you are except you NDIGBO.. may THE MOST HIGH OPEN your EYES to know who you truly are..
I don't blame the lunatic, my Igbo brothers should receive some sense and stop empowering their haters in the name of religion. You hate Igbo songs but love our money.
Well dissected, Dr. Abati. But a point of correction, Those who brought the Bible(The Christian Religious colonialists) didn't take away our resources. They rather died for the Bible. Unlike the economic colonialists(The white/British) who are still indirectly in operation.
Your comment is understandable, there should be serious dialogue among priests of tribes in Nigeria. Here in Benue State, a Rev. Fr, who served at the Catholic Secretariat for many years, complained on how he was treated by his lgbo colleagues at Igbo land, it was the Bishop who heartily apologized to him. The clergy should not take their differences on the lay faithful. No one should divide the Catholic Church

I think the priest got this wrong, he probably wanted to be inclusive. Best approach would have been to encourage other tribes to sing their songs too.
Or speak to the choir privately and encourage them to learn other songs
@@jiksawo08 exactly, the thing that happened to him in the east pain the man gan....if na me I go vex o but not to this extent sha
@@jiksawo08 Or if it becomes reach out to the Bishop and compromise would be reached, I know Ibo Catholics, Fada is next to God not to talk of Bishop.
Those Igbo people who are still fooling themselves that they are accepted in Nigeria, should be bold enough to see the writing on the wall. Fortunately, majority of Igbos know this already
Dr Ruben Abati, you have said it all, bitter but that is the truth.
Dr. Abbatti, thank you so much. You have said my mind and said it all. If church goes this way, what shall we do?
Everything MNK said is happening in Nigeria
When has singing in one's native language become a sin against God, or a crime against the Church board? It's a pity how we keep making ridicule of ourselves.
Please what's stopping the division of this country since it's obvious there's so much hatred against Igbos even in church 😠
Well, the priest spoke what many non-Igbo speaking priests are thinking. God help us.
Teach the congregation your own song they will learn
I think there is a discrimination in Catholic and non igbo priest are at the new living end. I spoke with one priest and what I am hearing is not good so we need to look into it. Even if igbo is majority in that church that should not give them the right to be singing igbo song all the time because the few non igbo will be marginalised
What is the need celebrating mass and no one understand you. Using an interpreter is an option but he went too far. Igbo land i know in the urban areas they have two or more masses where they use igbo or english so where you dit into you attend but it is wrong to. Arry ethnicity into the church. The catholic church is an institution and will handle things accordingly
Dr Abati, my hands are up for you, nice words
Thank you Dr Abati.
This is Sad!!! Especially coming from someone who ought to know more!! 😑
Dr Abati you are on point 👍👍👍
Dr Abati, you are doing well.
Hate on Igbo nation has gone beyond control. Referendum will be the only solution to all these hate. Nigerians should allow the Igbo nation to leave Nigeria in order for peace to reign in this part of the world. You can not live in peace with someone you hate, it's impossible, allow him to leave, period.
Oga Reuben ur indeed a statesman..... U called a spade a spade ......today I see Rufai spirit in u.pls keep it up..

Abati and kachi thank you for this analysis. If you handle Nigeria issues as you tackled this devilish rev father issue things would have been better. Good job .👏🏾 👍🏾.
That’s why people insist that Christian churches must have a credible leadership that have disciplinary powers to address EXCESSES of priests and pastors. I THANK THE CATHOLIC CHURCH TO WHOM I BELONG. GOD BLESS MY ARCHBISHOP !!
Dr abati has said it all

It is obvious common sense is no longer common. How could anyone send a preacher that does not speak the native language to anywhere 80% of the people does not understand English language but their native language . Transfer anger from a man of high state in church is uncalled for.
Thank you we love to worship in our mothers
A most unfortunate and regrettable incident. Most eloquently expounded on by Dr. Abati.
Thank God the Reverend has been suspended, if not, just give an order for all the marginalised Igbos in the Church to quit the church and the church will go down and will never rise again in that very parish, and the church will go bankrupt without them.
God bless you All for your understanding 🙏
Absolutely ridiculous ,the reverend father should be banned for ever , kicked out of the Catholic Church for discrimination and being anti igbo, the church ,my church,Catholic Church ,should not tolerate this kind of behavior from a man of God who is supposed to unify all people, their should not be politics of division in the church.
Without Igbo they will not be church in Nigeria
Where is Rufai Owoseni. We need his opinion on issues
I am Yoruba and Igbo, did they stop any tribe from singing their own songs, if you less ambitious than them, is that their fault
The man went too far this is not a big deal , just that church is politics in Nigeria, Mr Abati you spoke well but my problems is why can't the let those Igbos just go there way ??
I dont blame him...its the masses that gives them pastors wings to misbehave...
They don't want to hear Igbo songs in the Catholic church. . But when it is offering time. They will not say that they don't want Igbo offerings. We the Igbos build those churches. They should wait this is just the beginning. Igbos will continue to dominate it is the hand of God upon the Igbos and it will remain so forever. The hatred and envy on the Igbos is just too much. But the lord is with us
I have always been in love with Dr Abati for his objectivity on issues since his days in Guardian newspapers
"CROSSROADS" l always looked forward to it.Keep it up Doctor Abati
I feel for Rev. Anelu, for not being able to participate in the funeral ceremony he went to attend because he couldn't speak Igbo, I have personally experienced that severally myself, I simply blow it off anytime things such as these happen. All tribes need to be sensitive to the feelings of others and act accordingly. Before people start writing ugly comments, I would suggest they go and watch the entire video on other channels, not the summary and opinion presented here by Arise News.
He said he was eventually allowed to celebrate the mass. Maybe you didn't hear that part.
You're a very myopic igbo person I have ever come across. Hope you understand the ''word" ban, one Nigerialist.

Me suspect this former priest is a representative of larger groups. The Church hierarchy needs to fish these evil assembly out. He's not alone. GET THEM NOW AND GET THEM OUT.... Out of the abundant of the heart the Mouth speaks.... The Holy Bible
This Reverend father should go and join native Doctor, without any delay.

Why ban Only the songs, why not the tithes & offering with it ?
The Rev. Fr. is daddy G.O
Tundu just love you for not participating in evil social,
That is the extent the Igbo phobia in Nigeria has gone.
Good for you
Thank God for you
Igbos let go home
But are they really ready to go home? What is waiting for them at home?
The Evil Priest is processed and should be ban from being a priest not only suspension

The Rev father should be recalled immediately. He certainly may have expressed a genuine feeling in a wrong manner
