[MHFU] Tigrex vs Gunlance (5★ Village) (Urgent Quest)

- This is all pretty anecdotal stuff, so, try and see it like such.
If you're going to leave a comment about how Tigrex/Gunlance/etc. isn't that bad, just save yourself the time and don't.
Right, hello, by the way did you know I write a bunch in the description of these videos? Anyways. This hunt wasn't that great, but it wasn't that bad I guess. Had a couple of shitty starts til I got this take. So... I DO NOT RECOMMEND fighting Tigrex like this, both because it's just not a great time (it's fun tbh, just very annoying) There's simply better weapons to use for much much much less hassle. Greatsword makes Tigrex a joke, almost every other weapon I've had very mixed results with. ...Dual Swords was fun. Anyways. This video is kind of just a "technically you can fight Tigrex at this point"
The other main reason I don't recommend this at all is because of the grind involved. You need Evasion+2, I'm not going to pretend like you're going to become a god and be able to dodge through his attacks without it. You can roll through his roars decently consistently with some practice, but to roll through his attacks you have to be perfect, since there's more than one or two frames of active time. I don't actually think it's possible in almost every single case. Anyways.
The Lobster Set takes 7 Sm Lobster Shells, which I got 3 of after somewhere around 14 Plesioth hunts, since it seems to only come from carving Plesioth (so, a dual hunt would've probably been better tbh) I think you can also get Sm Lobster Shells from Daimyo Hermitaur, but some information in this game, even still, seems pretty hard to find verifiable sources for, such as with Monster Bone+. You can get a Gravios Skull Shell from Ceanataur, by breaking his shell while it's the Gravios Skull and getting lucky. You COULD use the Butterfly/Obituary set and use 3 Evasion Jewels, that would only be 3 Sm Lobster Shells, but then you'd have to farm a bunch of bugs, probably easier though, I kinda forgot about it 😅 Your call. I also forgot to show in the video but I'm using one Stone Wall Jewel to negate the Guard-1 penalty from the Lobster Armor. Oh well.
I'm absolutely not a Gunlance user, and I'm sure this shows, so maybe with much better muscle memory it could go a bit better.
=========THE STRATEGY=========
SO... the main strategy here is to use your upswing move as he turns. You have to kinda face directly left and do it to hit him, then you can do a backhop and start moving to his left, getting ready to react to his next move.
If he does the bite, try to avoid it or backhop through it, if he does the double bite, use your analog stick to turn to your left and try to evade under his arm, if you can't do that, make the call, quickly, and block instead. Power juice makes this a lot safer, as he can't break your guard if your guard can't be broken. If Tigrex starts to charge, as soon as you see/hear him do it, face him and block.
You can do the lunging attack during his spin, it's a great way to get a couple of hits in. Watch the video for more examples of what to do where. I'm not a gunlance user whatsoever, but I'll try to explain things as best as I can if you want to leave a comment.
Tigrex in this game is garbage. Seriously. There are so many hitboxes that straight up should NOT be there, or at the VERY LEAST not there for as long as they are. Period. That's just bad game design, I'm not going to sugar coat it. It's dog shit. I have so much more fun fighting Plesioth than Tigrex, and that's kind of a problem. The instant point blank charges he does are just not fun. They're stupid. And yeah yeah, I should've blocked them when I see them, but with all I'm trying to think about, since I don't have the muscle memory for using a gunlance, my reactions are very slow because I have to make a decision to turn and backhop or face him and block, and I can't do that all the time.
Again, this isn't that bad..... it's actually pretty fun and cool, just... only if you have Evasion+2 and have used Gunlance for quite some time. Just use the Greatsword, you can get an Evasion+2 set later, which, tbh you probably should if you're going to use lance or gunlance.
My hunt was heavily inspired by this video: • MHFU - Gunlance vs G-R...
If you're able to, emulation is a great way to play, I highly recommend you use PPSSPP: www.ppsspp.org/
And if you want to play multiplayer, go to Hunsterverse! hunstermonter....

Last time I faced this guy, we both died. It from my greatsword and me from a fucking aneurism
lmao
Imagine being so good at gunlancing that it turned into a pure lance
lmao :P
I just used the same tactics as someone who fought Tigrex with a GL in G rank, and apparently in G rank, shelling isn't very good.
@@HeadHunter455 Can I block any physical attack with a gun lance?
@@nicrovender2962 any weapon block can block most attacks. Some attacks you can't block by default and you have to use Guard Up skill(or whatever its name was). And then there are some attacks that trick you by exploding behind you which can be blocked anyway.
With a monster that does many fast melee attacks, it's best to mainly poke since that gives you better recovery speed to block and evade than shelling.
*gets hit by tiny frame near toenail*
*SO YOU HAVE CHOSEN... CART.*
lmao for real
This is my favorite monster to hunt back in my days of MHFU. Nostalgic days.

❤️ when Tigrex was like a Nemesis and had its own hunting theme 👍
The pain, I remember spending 5 hours to beat a Bulldrome when I was a beginner in MHFU.
@@dalescorcher5568 I HATE BULLDROME SO MUCH DUDE, WHY'S HE SO BUSTED?
Faster monsters like these are definitely hard to do with slower weapons like the gun Lance, heavy bow gun and hunting horn (hbg is manageable since you can still keep a distance from his roars and spin attacks). Honestly if you mained the GS/LS in MHFU I suggest you try the Gunlace in monster hunter portable third, it's got more moves and is generally a fun experience since you don't feel as slow as you do when using the GL in MHFU. Happy hunting.
-A lone Tenno hunter
Edit :thanks for these videos, they revive my willingness to face the game that traumatized me as a kid cuz the sinking feeling quest made me stop playing it entirely back when I was 10 or 8
lol thanks for watching, i'm glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for making a GL video. I still enjoy using the weapon. I've been going through mhw with it. Great fun
At 6.00min you got sheild up. Nice
🙂
1st; nice video Hunter
2nd: 8:17 and here we see a wild small monster striking again.
3rd: I've just read the description and I kinda know the feeling cause I always do solo training for extra money and points, it can also be fun cause you're doing something new instead of the preparations and weapon you're used to and frustrating cause you need to adapt to the changes of items and equipment.
And finally 4th: I'll end it with a "thank you for the vid Hunter"
(PS: just noticed it's shorter than my last comment. Welp good day/night to you Hunter.)
Haha, well, it's always nice to see your comments either way 🙂
so that’s what that wall of plesioth hunts was about...
lol yep.
The Plesioth hunts were way more enjoyable too... 😔

But I'm not giving up
Thank god Tigrex AI in P3rd was fixed
😩
Shoot I was hoping you had a guide with shelling. That’s the only reason I use GL. GL is so much fun in the new games I wanna get good with it in FU too, but looks like playing it without the gun is best (sad). Love almost everything you do keep it up.
I dunno if it's really super practical against Tigrex since he's so fast.
Shelling really shines when your melee attacks would do less damage, since your shells will deal a flat damage, it's best used against monsters and/or hitzones that are tougher than others, that you would otherwise bounce off or just deal less damage to.
As it is, GL vs Tigrex (Tigrex in general) is fuckin rough.
I used GL in MHRise the other day with a friend and it was a lot of fun, but yeah, the older games are pretty different.
Shelling with normal is more for extending combo, long is balanced, and wide is for damage, specially good against armored baddies, but still if your gl has decent raw its better to hit a good spot than spam shelling.
Normal gets better in games with the slam into fullburst, in fu gl shelling stays kinda underwhelming.
Ah yes i still remember years back at sinking feeling

Sorry for editing alot lol its too epic to skip
Gunlance was my first weapon when I started playing MHFU. It's certainly not fun against Tigrex, but I wanted to use it out of spite :V
Haha, yeaah
Though, with what I know more about the game, I think Gunlance would at least not be *awful* against Tigrex.
tbh Lance or GL, particularly because of the strong block, are decent choices IMO
I hadn't learned enough about GL, but I want to say that with the up poke going directly into a block, it may be doable.
Great job though!! 😄
Damn dude, nice work. Didn't you say the GL was your worst weapon in the game in another video?
Haha, thanks! Yeah, I'm really not great with Gunlance 😩 This was pretty fun though! tbh I've never used evasion skills in the old MH games, only ever in MHW, but I've always heard of Evasion builds for Lance users. It's cool stuff :)
@@HeadHunter455 keep GunLancing!! Don't give up! I had +100 uses on all weapons, GunLances may faild at Speed Hunting records, BUT ITS RELIABLE 👍👍
For me the WORST weapons were Sword and Shield because of range. Even the Dual Swords were better because of Demon Combo and the jumping slash to reach high targets.
Mano, como você não ficou atordoado com o rugido do dragão ? 😮
I could never fight him with this
Im too impatient
big mood
Ugh sometime I think very primitively with these games...
I never used that upward slash attack. Was like,it's slow, doesn't look like it hurt so much more, why would I use that :D ?
Was wondering why I wasn't cutting any tails with my block+stab technique lol
Just tried now after pausing that vid and cut a yian garuga's tail I'm so happy ! I'm going to rob so many monsters of their tails now!
And I didn't know evade worked for the backdash.
But anyway I fought this battle yesterday and ended up letting tigrex corner me against a wall, hugging his neck from the left side and block stabbing him to death with some sweet shelling too.Was more out of despair than by planning but hey,he died :D.
Also is there any reason why you eat power seeds rather than drinking some demon juice ?
Ps:I'm really happy to have found your vids,it's really helpful to have things explained and shown in simple terms for new players.
~Thank you!
(edit: that block at 6:02 was pretty ultra instinct, don't know how you managed to get it on time but holy hell that was nice)
power seed gives twice as much attack as demon drug and lasts for 3 minutes, so it's more effective as long as you don't forget to eat another one after 3 minutes
To be honest I'm not sure what the damage values are off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure the upward swing, at least, has a faster recovery than a regular stab, just keep in mind you can't combo upswings together, you have to do upswing, stab, upswing or something, like I do in the video.
Yep! Lances and Gunlances make very good use of Evasion skills to dunk on monsters. Lance can dodge three times in a row, which is kind of insane. You can do some crazy things with that.
Haha, once of my first hunts trying to actually use Gunlance was vs Rathalos. I just sat in shield and would stab every now and then. Now after this hunt, I feel like if I fought him with gunlance it'd go a bit better.
For the power seeds vs demon juice, there are different types of damage buffs, some stack with others while others don't stack.
Power Seeds last for two minutes and give you 10 raw damage, which is very very useful in almost every situation in the game. Power Pills last for 30 seconds and give you 25 raw damage, which is pretty huge, but will overwrite the power seed buff I think. Power Pills are also notable because after you take them you don't do the flex animation, this allows you do attack immediately after using them. I almost never do, but they are quite good.
Demondrugs stack with Power Seeds, and I'll use them sometimes, though I don't like how expensive Mega Demondrugs are... Definitely recommend using Demondrugs if you want though, it's just a catalyst and a power seed, pretty cheap. Demondrugs also last until you cart or the hunt is over, just like the felyne kitchen.
Here are the buff categories. You can stack with each category, but you can't stack with the same category. Notice how Demondrugs are in the same as the kitchen, so if you can eat for AuL, that's the same as a Mega Demondrug, I think.
[Category 1] Charms
[Category 2] Talons
[Category 3] Power Seeds, Power Pills, or Demon Flute
[Category 4] Demondrug, Mega Demondrug, or Cat Kitchen
[Category 5] Attack Up [Small]/[Med]/[Large] from an Armor
[Category 6] Hunting Horn Attack Up [Small x1], [Small x2] or [Large x1], [Large x2]
@@HeadHunter455 @CanSnake thanks a lot! I'll try to start backdashing more and I'll farm seeds/juice.
I have a good experience fighting it on mhp3rd. So I not have any trouble to defeate it on MHFU
👍
I Consider Gunlance as a good weapon to use against tiggy....Btw.. what's your favourite Weapon type...from all of the MH games?
cool.
I guess probably Greatsword from MHGen. Hard to say. There's a lot of close seconds, like Charge Blade from MHGen or Greatsword from Monster Hunter World.
@@HeadHunter455 Ahh...i see...a man akin to me....
I need to learn how to play with gunlance, I'm only good with regular lance
They're both pretty great tbh.
Gunlance works really well against Plesioth for example, though I guess Lance also does 🤷♀️
Gunlance was how I've always done this Urgent Quest (across 9 characters, at this point).
ok
I still don't understand how the gunlance worked in this game. Most of the time you're just doing lance stabs. Wyvern blast does extra damage I guess but the regular shells are never reloaded and used
I never got to G-Rank in MHFU, but Gunlance was like a Lance that didn't care as much about bad hit zones (and there's always a lot of them). Both Lance and Gunlance are great for breaking parts like Basarios's chest, but in different ways.
I think shelling just isn't viable for some monsters, or might just not be worth the sharpness decrease, in this game.
I don't actually know, just seems like it to me. It's not... bad or boring, it's actually quite fun, it's just fighting tigrex with it to me is kind of a drag.
Absolutely epic
😩😩😩
I don't even know why I'm watching this. I haven't touched melee weapons in years. Let alone gunlance.
lol well I appreciate your interest in it either way :)
how does it feel on boring land?
yo, im rocking the same gunlance rn, well im using the white cannon to be specific. gotta use an emulater to run the game smh
*Kills dragon with big sharpened PushPop*
Man if some small human (a kid?) came up to me with something like that I'd probably just run away.
@@HeadHunter455 ahaha
how can anyone be so good at gunlance?
😩 Definitely standing on the shoulders of giants here, lol.
I could never have figured out how to fight Tigrex with Gunlance without watching someone else do it this way.
It's fun, I'm just not very good at it.
@@HeadHunter455 nah, you are definitely good
@@HeadHunter455 How do you manage the camera angle? I can't see a thing when I'm fighting a Daimyo Hermatur/Ceanataur.
GL is a huge nightmare.
Yeah it kinda can do be that way sometime.
So headhunter I had the same name on Xbox lol but I do main gunlance on MHFU and Gen Ultimate and Mhrise
Do you any have tips for my starting kit on gunlance i am a newbie in mhfu just started this month inalready got my hi quality armor set for the gunnery and add a deco to have the king gunnery i was just wondering what gunlance should i make for my early hr rank do you have any tips? Great video btw it inspires me even more to master the gunlance i really like the weapon🥺❤️
Well, not really. Early on you're just not going to have many options for things you might want, and what you really might want is either Guarding or Evading skills, and damage.
I wouldn't unfortunately, really worry too much about your shelling damage. Feel free to use it and to use wyvern fire, for some monsters with particularly low hitzones it might even be pretty great, but in late game, you're going to be relying mostly on your melee attacks, as far as I'm aware. You could always do some math to figure out if it's worth it, but that's later on.
I'd recommend focusing more on your understanding of the weapon first, and worry about your actual equipment a bit later on. You can check out my gunlance hunts if you'd like, though the main one I'm most proud of is my G-Rank Plesioth one, which I think Gunlance works very well against, but you could check out my Nargacuga one too;
Plesioth: th-cam.com/video/KxnJdRVOdrc/w-d-xo.html
Narga: th-cam.com/video/hvNHhHQnY4w/w-d-xo.html
In my other videos I may be too bad with Gunlance to be of much help honestly lol, but those I'm pretty confident I did well enough to actually learn from. I hope that helps, good luck and stick with it! 🙂
@@HeadHunter455 i will thank you ❤️
Update:
after a few runs with the gunlance i think i get a hang of it the dodge is very important if your carying this big weapon i am still relying with my shellings a bit but after a few runs with plesy and its rediculos hip check i got the hang of blocking and dodging while maintaining an aggresive stance thank you very much once again ❤️ i have still much to learn with the gunlance it is a very good weapon. Ill soon face tgrex in my guild hall quest i think i am confident enough to fight it😅 but a little scared..
U know, a good Idea, would be a vídeo Guide for some weapon trees, Im almost in hr and still have no clue where the hell are the dragon weapons :/

how are you so good?
😅😅😅😅
😰 hours and hours of practice and research.
I'm pretty familiar with Tigrex' movements and moveset and the game in general, so that helps a lot.
I was heavily inspired and influenced by this video th-cam.com/video/0Kg5eqYc1aw/w-d-xo.html Without it, I doubt I'd have figured out how to fight this thing with GL, not being a user myself and all 🙂
I guess Gunner is good for beating Tigrex
Well, Gunner refers to LBG, HBG and Bow
But yeah Gunlance is pretty not awful.
as a note you can farm the Imperial Gunlance at this point before 4 star Tigrex, which is stronger than the White Gunlance, has slightly better sharpness, and is way easier to get because you don't need a Gravios skull
Seems like it.
The weapon guide I use has it listed as a 5* weapon, but as far as I can tell I believe you can get it in 4*.

Wow i just tried my 1st time lance in garuga training n it's horrendous since i only use gs n hh
lol oof, good luck! You can do it! 😄
Nice
🙂
Imagine killing one of the hardest bosses in the game by poking him to death
😎
Does gunlance hav the same dps as lance?
Dunno
Pretty sure it didn't back then, but unless you're a serious speedrunner, you likely won't see much of a difference.
In mh3hd this monster geting weak i think
I could never understood both lances....if only there was forward hop for these weapons.
As for tigrex, I'd stick to my khezu horn. highly exploitable by HH superpound.
Hey can you tell me how to make wayren gunlance please I am level 4 quest level
... Am I the only one praying for the Tigrex's ass? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a pain in MY ass, but to repeatedly aim for the head and ass (tail) and then setting its rear on fire not once, but TWICE, well...
... At least it's dead. To be captured after such torture, oh boy...
lol yeah, it's a whole thing huh
I need to ask, why you didn't use the bullets of the GL against the Tigrex?
was too busy trying not to die
apparently in g rank, shelling isn't really worth it, so I just used the same tactics. I dunno where I would use the shells anyways.
Shelling does fixed damage that also ignores armor or defense of a monster. Great at breaking things or extending combos but inefficient to do most of the time.
Hunter: didn't end it with a Wyvern Blast
My inner GLM: looks down on you atop his Tigrex Skull Throne
*"Pathetic..."*
(How many tries did you do for this video? For me, it's always hard to master the dodge, especially when using a gunlance... And do you prefer Sharpness over Durability or the other way?)
Well, I usually use save states to practice easier. It took me a few, but not as many as when I made the Longsword video.
Vc curti a gs eu amo
Yeah, Greatsword is much funner/better against Tigrex IMO.
But other weapons are fine too, fun in their own ways.
well played! But who tf plays gunlance XD
Me, I guess.
I do, yes we exist
I do, yes we exist
Gunlance better damage than Lance?
Depends on how you use it.
I feel like with lance you can dodge just about everything Tigrex does. I don't know though, maybe I'll give it a try.
@@HeadHunter455 lance shield is so good XD
Hey whats the highest raw gs damage?and tell me how to make it
In most circumstances, gunlance has worse dps than lance despite its powerful wyvern fire.
MHFU best game ever, GOAT game!
👍
No bro mhp3rd is kinda better im my opinion i respect your opinion but my opnion is my opinion
Bro that was so sensational
Recommend you to play mhp3rd first before MHFU because you can get a lot experience there. It will help you to play mhfu
@@animeamv4946 You should really play FU first if you're new, it's hard to go from P3rd to FU
At 8:34 how to do that fast shielding?
You can draw into a block by pressing R+Triangle+Circle when the weapon is sheathed
This works for all melee weapons that can block, SNS, GS, Lance, and GL.
