@@rpgeebzmusicarcade To add onto Bailey's comment. Basically, Sepiks Prime "Seh-Picks" was a boss fight in the original release of the game. When the third expansion came around, Sepiks was revived through nanomachines known as SIVA (the source of the conflict of the expansion) as Sepiks Perfected. But using the metal remix was a unique situation. As another major boss fight for Taniks the Scarred "Ta-Nicks" (ta as in tan) was revived by SIVA as Taniks Perfected, however he did not receive a remix as no one did an epic metal cover for Bungie to include. Taniks would return yet again a year ago, and he got his remix then in a different style. Tanik's theme however, I do not think would translate well to a metal cover, as it is a lot more reserved compared to Sepik's theme.

Surprised I haven't seen it suggested yet, but while I agree with people recommending things like "The First Disciple" and "Riven of a thousand voices" I personally have to say that the Destiny 2 track "Journey" ft the Kronos Quartet is a MUST hear! The tone it sets is incredible, and it's definitely up there with the most emotionally effective points in a video game for me. You could do the live orchestra version, but I have a personal bias towards the original recording. For the video game context of the track, it's the opener to a story point where you've suffered the first massive defeat, your home is burning, your once-immortal comrades are being killed left and right, and you and the rest of humanity are cast out as refugees on a journey to regain your strength and hope.

So this is the music that plays during a particular boss fight in the game, that boss' name being Sepiks Prime (pronounced Sep - iks). This was everyone's favorite fight in Destiny 1 specifically because this song made it feel so epic. He'd be sending wave after wave of minions at you while also assailing you with powerful, slow blasts as he teleports around his arena. Was a tense fight (when it first came out) and a great track to fight him to.

  • @talondarkfire
    @talondarkfire ปีที่แล้ว +25

So the story goes that Sepiks Prime (pronounced like septic but without the 't' and add the 's' to the end) is a boss at the end of a strike from early Destiny 1. Later in an expansion called Rise of Iron - just now noticing that title being a great place for a metal cover - Sepiks Prime is revived early on in the missions by a cursed technology called Siva. They brought back the strike with Sepiks Prime and used this cover during that battle and named the track Sepiks Redux. But if you have a chance to, I'll reiterate what some are saying here and try a listen of Deep Stone Lullaby. Really good Destiny track.
Quick edit: I typed that previous text as I was listening to you, but "I'm still here" LOL.

Oh man, always a pleasure to see Destiny music. If you're taking recommendations, I think you might find Drown in the Deep, Replicate, and Athanasia + Security Breach (technically two separate OSTs, but they're effectively one track split in half) interesting. They're both Destiny 2 tracks as well. Anyways, always fun to listen to your reaction and breakdowns, regardless of what's being listened to.

As someone who has played Destiny since it first launched in 2014 and still plays today, I have to say one of the best things about it is the musical story telling. Characters and concepts have motifs and themes that get remixed and re-used in different ways as the story goes on, and as someone who loves and pays attention to the music it really is one of my favorite things. The more you learn to identify the motifs, the cooler it is.
A couple of good examples are the Darkness theme (basically, the main bad guy theme) and the Guardian theme (our character, aka the main hero). So many tracks re-use these musical phrases but in different ways, different instruments, different keys etc. to sort of weave the story of whatever event the piece is meant to accompany. "The First Disciple" is a track that uses both of these motifs to great effect.
A couple of my other favorite Destiny tracks are "Queen's Oracle", "Riven of a Thousand Voices", "The Gunslinger", and "The Fanatic" but really there are so many good ones. I have a whole playlist of just Destiny tracks.

I'm still here! I like video game music a lot because its also great to listen to while working out. That feeling of anxiety you mentioned is good for motivation. Also the tracks tend to be longer and loopable, because on the hardest difficulty you could fighting and hearing this one song for like 15 minutes straight haha. You can notice some spots in the arrangement where it is clear they would put a cut there to keep it looping back into a different chorus, or loop perfectly into the ending flourish when you finally defeat him, which could happen at any point while the song is playing. Imagine having to make all your songs loopable like that!

Sepiks (Sep-ics) Prime is the first boss in Destiny 1. You're not far off with the chase feeling, It's an encounter with limited space and you're getting swarmed by minions while you're trying to kill the boss, so you're constantly repositioning. The cover version is also used in the game a few years later, same boss fight (he's returned) but you're much more powerful and geared for it compared to when you first face him, I think the metal version works in this instance as it's a reflection of your power.
Totally agree with other comments recommending "Deep stone lullaby" from Destiny 2.
I'd also like to recommend "An end once and for all (extended)" from Mass Effect 3
Edit: I actually think "Suicide Mission" from Mass Effect 2 would be better for your channel. The game was recently remastered, including the soundtrack so it's even more impressive ☺️

Ha, the comments are already full of people wanting to tell you what I was about to! The Redux version for the Rise of Iron expansion surprised and impressed a lot of players who never heard Misha's cover and excited those who had! It was used because they basically remixed and updated that mission and the final boss fight is where this plays so, only made sense to have a remix play, heh!
There's a number of very memorable tracks from all of Destiny, a number of which are named in the comments. Riven of a Thousand Voices for a mix of traditional and modern, Journey for something more emotional and operatic (though, I'm partial to the second vocal variant but not a good choice for a reaction video). Others come to mind but those are stand outs I think you would appreciate.
Oh, and as far as I know, Sir Paul McCartney had only a small part to play in the music for Destiny 1 but it did include one original vocal track by himself called Hope for the Future. At the time, it was very...tonally out of left field, considering the nature of the game, and so a lot of people thought it was kinda cringy buuuuttt...I've sort of come to enjoy it now! It still kinda makes me laugh but it's not bad!
Only recently found your channel but I really do appreciate YOUR appreciation, hahaha! Really been enjoying your insights and attention to details I hadn't noticed in tracks I'm familiar with and just your overall enthusiasm for the medium you love, no matter the source!

    Some lore, if you're interested:
In destiny, there is a race of forsaken pirates from another solar system called the Eliksni, who require an element called ether to survive after their planet was ravaged by the exodus of a giant spherical machine that gave them basically magic. That machine, called the Traveller, came to earth, stripping the eliksni of that magic and leaving them essentially starving for a replacement. They followed it to earth and have been killing humans for centuries because they still worship it.
To create their ether, the eliksni(also called the fallen) have to mine and convert a programmable matter from different sources with machines they've built in the Traveler's image. These machines are massive floating, agitating technological wonders called servitors. Powerful fallen, called captains, Use servitors to create ether for themselves and their subordinates. the more ether you consume, the larger and more powerful you become. The most powerful fallen are the massive archons and their kells(kell is like a king). To manage that amount of ether, the fallen must employ what are called prime servitors, which are huge. Sepiks is the biggest servitor belonging to the house of devils, one of the main recurring antagonistic clans of fallen. Of course we destroy sepiks in a boss fight (the first track is his theme song) and the devils are sent packing...
That is, until fallen splicers(tech geniuses and programmers) discover an ancient earth weapon called SIVA. SIVA is a kind of horrifying nanotech that corrupts and kills everything. The splicers somehow manage to figure out how to weaponize it against humanity, and eventually use it to resurrect their prime servitor, sepiks. So again we have to fight sepiks, but he is resurrected and enhanced by SIVA, and is called sepiks perfected. The original boss fight was reprised with some changes, including the changed soundtrack (second track in this video).
Honestly, while videos games are often written off as hokie or childish, a lot of modern video game writing is akin to a grand, highly detailed novel like lord of the rings.

Just subscribed recently and your videos are great. May I make a song suggestion as a fan? It’s called “Face on” and is a Wolf’s Rain OST, and is more of a sad and uplifting song. Wolf’s Rain is an animated series from the early 2000s, and has some of the most beautiful soundtracks in any form of cinema I’ve heard to date. It’s one of the best stories I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing, but unfortunately it’s lesser known. If you made a video breaking down “Face On” i would be eternally grateful! It’s short, but has an immense life span!

Great to see more Destiny on the channel! Perhaps more Periphery in the main channel is in order especially when P5 is just around the corner? 👀

Hoping to hear you react to the soundtrack to the Medal of Honor games, they were WW2 shooters with a Saving Private Ryan feel and Michael Giacchino did the soundtrack. So memorable.

PLEASE do a video on the Destiny 2 track Journey. Alongside another titled Deep Stone Lullaby as many others have mentioned, both tracks are some of if not _the_ best to ever come out of the franchise.

My fave OST from destiny is the taken kings theme. GOD when i first heard that theme song i paused and actually looked up the song. It was my spiral to this type of music. Completely different from the rap and rock id listen too 😂

Both of these tracks had purpose where they show up-- also, this wasn't Destiny 2, it was the original Destiny...
Point is, when you as the player character first encounter Sepiks Prime, he's your first team-up boss, and so by that nature, the original orchestral piece brings out those feelings/emotions for that encounter and its conclusion. Describing it as a 'pocket' is a great way to go, and because of the nature of the track, certain parts are easy to loop until the last ~30-45 seconds for the conclusion get triggered when you finally drop that boss.
When you encounter Sepiks Prime again later on in the DLC campaign, the metal cover (Sepiks Redux) serves as an *excellent* backdrop because both your and your NPC 'ghost' companion are both thinking "didn't we kill that guy already?!" and he looks like he got assimilated by the borg and hits harder to boot, but because the fight is different and the boss battle mannerisms are more... intense and mobile, the metal cover lends itself more to that situation. That and when you hear those first few licks, goosebumps.

your observation that the piece is playing over frenetic action is right on the nose cause this track plays during a boss fight with Sepiks Prime during The Devil's Lair strike which was originally in the first Destiny, but they brought it back to Destiny 2
and to briefly describe the fight...Sepiks Prime is a giant spherical robot that's trying to kill you and its lackeys are swarming you from both sides and you're trying to kill it while trying not to get shot to death
and that musical sequence at the very start is a lietmotif you can hear throughout destiny's music...can't recall what that piece is, but im sure someone will comment what it is lol

Please listen to Kevin Perkins music for Made in Abyss, it would be a wonderful addition to your anime music reactions! There are too many good songs to recommend just one. But I suggest "To the Abyss!" From the first ost. "Trancendance and Havezeve" from second ost and "Juroimoh Mutation" from the third ost.

I would be amazed if you reacted to "Komm, Susser Tod" by Arianne. It was written for the fil "End Of Evangelion". The lyrics were written by the franchise's writer/director Hideaki Anno and composed by Sagisu Shiro it is sung in english and hits hard on the meaning.
