DirecTV Stream Review: Don't Do It!
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 18 ต.ค. 2024
- DirecTV Stream is a live TV streaming service that gives you some of the same channels you’d get from broadcast, cable, or satellite, except streaming over the internet. With an unlimited cloud DVR, 4k streaming, and regional sports networks that its competitors don’t have, there may be some cord cutters that consider signing up for DirecTV Stream.
But with a hefty price tag and some questionable marketing, I highly recommend you read the fine print before signing up and also understand the confusing differences between DirecTV over the internet vs DirecTV Stream.
This DirecTV Stream review covers everything you need to know about the streaming service including DirecTV’s plans and pricing, channel lineup, DirecTV vs DirecTV Stream, and if DirecTV Stream is worth it.

The Directv via internet is what I set my mother up with. She had tried streaming on a Roku box and for some reason the remote drove her up the wall. The directv box and remote gave her a more “cable like” experience as the remote has all the usual buttons like guide, record, list of recordings, and of course the number buttons to tune directly to a channel by number which is what she is used to. Plus she is a huge baseball fan and the RSN sports channels and SEC network gives her sports options.
What it comes down to with any tv service is does it have the channels you want and can you read and understand the pros and cons.
So same issue here, had my grandma set up on the Roku with dtv stream but the Gemini air was just more familiar to her. Tho she just lost her husband and she is hard of seeing so she is now relying on the voice function on the remote. For months this has worked fine to change channels and volume but suddenly, every time she asks for a channel, the device searches TH-cam with the request. Has essentially bricked the device for her. I’ve tried disabling all of the streaming apps, but for whatever reason, it keeps searching TH-cam
@@josephgarcia486 does she something like “find hbo”? I often see the word find induces a search across all platforms. In fact on an Amazon Fire tv I have if I say HBO it goes to the max app. I have to say channel 501 lol.
@@josephgarcia486Let me help you out with that
@@josephgarcia486 Oh man... I"m trying to do the same for my 95 year old grandmother who wants to be able to say, "Turn on Bally Sports" or "Turn on the Cleveland Guardians." I can't find a device (tried Roku, Fire Stick, & Onn) that will get anywhere except turn the channel on. The Onn device is run by Google and most searches we try on it take us to TH-cam.
Off topic, I am a satellite Directv customer and just returned all my receivers except for one, the main DVR one. Then I bought more Amazon Fire sticks and downloaded the Directv app. Logged in to my account and got access to all my recordings on the DVR. I dropped my bill by $50. You should do a video on that. I was unaware of this service. I’m moving and will likely move to streaming at the new house. Thanks for the info. 🙂
I have a late model Samsung TV. Is the DIRECTV app available without the Amazon fire stick?
@@ComputerKevAZ Yes, however, I would recommend using the fire stick or some other dedicated streaming device. The User interface was pretty buggy last i checked for the DTV app on Samsung TV’s.
I have always wondered if my cpu and memory from my old Samsung s10e could be installed into my Samsung smart tv. I am becoming more and more disappointed with Samsung smart tvs. Very buggy and larggy navigation through the menu.
@@gdrew4171 Yes I hate my Samsung smart tv
I have an LG smart tv that is awesome and user friendly and works great
Glad I saw this. I talked with a DirecTV rep yesterday and told him my concern was the 2 year contract (especially if Bally Sports switches to Apple or Amazon). He wasn’t very helpful and definitely didn’t offer the Streaming option. So I’m glad to find out about the contract differences.
I have DIRECTV both Stream and Satellite, I use the Genie HR54 and I have the new Gemini and I must say, I love everything about both of the services which is why I subscribe to both. Hands down the best video OTA & Stream. If we can only get NFL Sunday Ticket back on residential accounts we will be good. Keep up the good work DIRECTV!
My company just got DTV as a client, and even though I've been working on it for months, it all still confuses me. Thanks for the vid...I'm writing stuff about Gemini/streaming/over internet, and this helped.
You're saying that Direct TV Stream is by far the best option and then proceed to say don't get it. Huh???
This clarification is so important. I almost got bamboozled! Thank you for the clear and concise explanation…..
Glad it was helpful!
Outside of price being a little I also have the choice package on DirecTV stream and no issue, had it back when it was AT&T Tv. Had Satellite Directv and then switched over to AT&T TV/DTV Stream since I had fiber internet. If I didn't have them right now, my next choice would probably be TH-cam TV.
I feel like if I had DirecTV Stream over the long run, I’d probably be satisfied with it despite the price. It does its job. Really comes down to which sports channels you’re looking for. My beef is more with the company itself.
FYI, tried UTube tv, it interface was horrible. Just to favorite a channel I had to go to several drop-down menus.... Free trial it before changing services.
I was a beta tester for the service years back, so I'm locked into a grandfathered plan that basically has all the channels for $99. Don't think I'm ever going to cancel it. Works great for me :)
Same
Direct tv stream is so good dont listen to this guy. Been using it for years. Signal doesn’t go out because its over the internet not a dumb satellite
Stream also has Reelz which has OP Live. It isn’t just sports that sets it apart.
YTTV doesn’t have that channel either. YTTV also doesn’t have A\E. Stream does.
I’m sticking with DTV stream. If the sports leave this streaming service, then good. I hope that will help to lower our monthly bills. I don’t watch sports anyway, and i don’t rly care for the sports. My thing is that DTV stream has literally every channel possible. No other streaming service offer every channel like this. Yes, it costs more, but you’re paying for everything you get.
I have had Xfinity for 5 years and they keep raising their rates and taking away the channels I watch. Xfinity"s excuse is they added more channel. Yeah more channels I could care less about but if I want to watch the channels taken away I have to pay extra. So now I have a 14 day trail of Direct tv stream and see how it goes.
I have Direct TV stream and I'm loving it...way better picture quality than others
I got into to STREAM before the over the Internet option. It is the only service that has all of the content we want. We came from DirecTV satellite. I bought two of the Osprey devices, with a remote. This allows us to use channel numbers, a big plus for my spouse. It is very confusing now how they market the choices.
I'm on Fubo now mainly because of the regional sports and my bill is $105. They just lost 19 channels and did not adjust pricing. So I'm switching to DirecTV stream. Money wise it isn't much different and I will have all the channels I want including regional sports.
Yeah, Fubo has a carriage dispute with Warner Bros Discovery right now. Pretty much all of the TV companies have had issues like this at one point or another but with Fubo it's complicated because they are in the middle of a lawsuit with WBD.
I like Direct stream myself not that I like everything they do
I have the direct stream, old ATT at home, and where I work a few months ago they changed from the DirectTV satellite to the stream. I'm assuming it's through the internet and not the one I have. It is horrible. It is constantly buffing, freezing, saying that it's not connected to the internet and other issues. This occurs daily at least once more often several times a day. I do not have this problem with my system.
We are in tv heaven with "Direct Stream".
You have one of those most calming voices! I can't hear what you're saying because you are triggering my narcolepsy. Have you considered starting a bedtime story channel? I am not saying this to be mean. And I don't mean at all that the information is boring. Your voice is just so really calming. I have only known one other person like that. He was a very brilliant engineer.
Haha- I’ve been told that before when I worked in a call center. Maybe sleep stories will be my next gig 😅
I appreciate your explanation. Clear and concise. 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Your review makes no sense. You point out numerous advantages to Directv Stream but then say don't get it. Well, I don't get it!
My biggest issue with DirecTV Stream is they have marketing practices that I think are unfair to their customers. It’s not a company that I feel comfortable supporting for that reason.
Their product is also more expensive than the competition (TH-cam TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Sling).
Yes, their product itself does what it sets out to do: provide TV channels over the Internet. But why get DirecTV Stream when you could get the same thing for less money from other companies with less egregious sales tactics?
@@ShallIStreamIt What other company has the YES network?
@chipdayton1625 Like some of the other RSNs, DirecTV/DirecTV Stream is the only streaming service with it, aside from YES Network’s standalone app. Like I mentioned on the video, the RSNs mean certain customers are handcuffed to DirecTV Stream.
@@chipdayton1625Can you stream out of Market news and sports. I have TH-cam TV but recently I was watching program I dvr and it had must watch ads which it never did that and I am not happy had it for 4 years no issues but I hate must watch ads which is worse than cable.
I *NEED* DTStream to get local Dodgers baseball games. Now I’m trying to figure out if I can get the app on my SamsungTV…I don’t see the app among the loaded TV apps? It’s a 2016 Smart Tv, supposed to work.
Can you help me with this? When i turn on my tv using the dtv remote, my roku menu shows up. I cant use the dtv input to change to dtv! I would like to have the dtv menu come up and not roku. Or do I now have to use 2 remotes?
Roku and directv and not the same,,,
Roku TV? You may need to change to dtv stream.
As a DC area sports fan, and dependent on the WORST RSN IN THE WORLD, MASN, for Nationals games in the summer, DirecTV Stream is the only streaming option. Yay?
Excellent review!! I always appreciate your videos.
Thanks, Nick! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
in order to save some money on air conditioning this summer I decided to update an old rear projection tv that we have in a basement family room so I bought an HDMI to AV converter and fire stick. Text can be hard to read at times but that's due to resolution of the old NTSC standard but the picture quality of TV and movies is great.
We have had Direct for years so I setup Direct TV on the fire stick after setting it up it I read on line that people were charged the full price of the streaming service in addition to their regular bill so I called Direct TV support this morning and they assured me that as long as I set it up using my existing Direct TV account login information there is no additional charge.
Use the Direct TV app not the Direct TV Streaming app if you already have Direct TV.
They also said I could have up to 20 devices connected to this service within my home and 3 outside my home which would be great when at the campground if I wanted to watch it a 2AM when enough campers were not using the campground's WiFi. LOL
I like the “Last 4” option on the DTV dish remote. The streaming remote has a similar “favorite “ option on the remote. Can’t live without that for switching between channels between commercials. Does YT tv or FUBO HAVE this?
This is helpful; TY. I'm in a tough spot trying to find a service for my 95 year old grandmother. She wants the news and the Cleveland Guardians, but her vision is so impaired, she can't see the screen or remote well to get to the right channel. I've been experimenting with Fubo (have Bally Sports), but I can't find a device that will get me to a channel from the home screen through voice activations. Directv's Genie seems like it would work... but now you mentioned Bally may not be on at the end of 2024 anyway then she'd be stuck with a DTV contract. Any advice? I'm confused lol.
Roku has a voice activated remote. But one has to press and hold a button while speaking and it finds whatever you say.
This would be confusing especially for the elderly and senior population who doesn’t understand the difference too.
Definitely agree!
What is confusing is what is the difference between the elderly and seniors
Actually FUBO never carried TBS-TNT channels which carries playoff sports, and NOW that SNY is off FUBO it looks like Direct Stream is best choice..
Same thing happened to me. I was so confused when I was signing up!!
It's going to be interesting to see what some of these stand alone sport packages are going to cost that will be available in the Fall. It will be a killer for services like Direct tv Stream and others if reasonably priced.
Info very helpful and well done. Thanks!
I've had it for a long time. Couldn't be happier with it.
I am currently doing the BYOD directv stream with 2 gemini air devices. I only pay $128 a month for ultimate.
If they lose the Royals games They may just lose me. I have the regular dish antenna, there's quite a bit I can stream over my phone. The thing is almost everything I watch is off the DVR. I haven't found my way to get the equivalent any other way. It all costs to damn much. I also have Rokus on two tv's with the two satellite receivers, the little unit that connects to the bigger box from Direct tv. Streaming Netflix and prime.
I wish it was easier to get Bally Sports.
When I looked into this, I happened catch it. Easy to miss, though. I was weary and didn't sign up.
Definitely easy to miss.
Which stream services offers BEST video/audio quality??? Direct TV and TH-cam TV seem the same, not 1080p or 4k, anyone offer better than either one of these?
you forgot to mention the price goes up $50 after 2 year is what i read
Thx, I fell in the trap .. you saved me. Looking to dump AT&T Uverse, testing TH-cam TV and am not so havvy wit it. Coming from a cable provider YT guide, search and navigation is confusing, and managing DVR operation is not ease.. is you want to record a series program and it finds evey episode of the seeries and starts adding them to the list which is not easy to sort thry,, New vs Old, vs replay.
Actually still see no way to sign up... on the Stream Landing page... have they shut it down ?
Same here, had Uverse for 16yrs. Now with no promotions the prices got outrageous. I had the same experience with UTube tv. It was horrible, the interface menu system was confusing as you mentioned. I'm on Spectrum streaming and it's better, but still not similar to standard cable. I'm going to try Direct TV streaming, from all I've researched, the interface is Very similar cable, although a bit more expensive.
Hey guys, what's the difference between DTV satellite and DTV streaming? Do i need both to record local and movie programs?
Both have same basic channel lineup (although satellite gives you option to not include locals and pay less). W/ satellite you get physical DVR so don’t need internet connection.
@@ShallIStreamIt Thank you for the info. I didnt know that ATT bought Directv. I already have the Wireless and internet through ATT. Now they want me to combine both internet and tv.
Stream has cloud dvr. I had issues with satellite, changed to gemini had issue, (no more than 2 tvs at a time). Went with stream with my roku tv, only one remote.
I’m not a fan of their business practices too! Direct TV added the service, raised the price without my knowing.
Direct TV SUCKS.
Unless you do enjoy ENDLESS buffering.
And expecting to see the end of the game or race...forget it.
Always seems to want you to restart your device right around the end of a game.
I watch until the first "Please Restart Your Device" comes on.
Off it goes.
It sucks. There is no other way to describe it..
I’m in New Jersey and fubo just got rid of SNY which broadcast the New York Mets! Which is a huge disappointment so my only option was to sign on for DIRECTV Stream
Fubo also recently lost the history Channel. Game show network , and Discovery Channel.
It’s a carriage dispute. DIRECTV has removed channels before, too. Give it a few weeks and they’ll be back.
So I just got off a long call with an AT&T rep after watching this video and apparently as of very recently there is now only one service and its a 2 year contract there is no month to month at all. I'm trying to ditch my old Uverse service and go full streaming but not sure what the best option is now.
Just know that you won’t be able to go back to Uverse once you cancel. I had the same situation and At&t was forcing me to go with a Dtv service. I ended up going with TH-camTV.
I use Direct TV steam love it
Directv streaming is a lot cheaper than the regular price of the satellite service. Satellite is almost 175 vs 80 a month.
Im confused what is the difference between DiercTV over the internet vs DieretTV stream?
Both give you the same thing- live channels over the internet. But DirecTV over the internet is more expensive and has a two year contract. DirecTV Stream doesn't.
@@ShallIStreamIt Current pricing for DIRECTV over Internet with 2-year contract seems to be cheaper right now: $105.98 all-in ($75 Choice +$15 ARS +$16 sports) for 24 months, compared to $123.98 all-in ($109 Choice + $15 Sports) for DIRECTV Stream for no-contract after the initial discounts expire after 3 months. Plus, without a contract, wouldn't you be vulnerable to price hikes during the next two years?
I agree. This was not clear. Maybe slow down your presentation.
Too dodgy for me. Thanks for your coverage.
you're welcome!
Didn't even know that *DirecTV Stream* still existed. Excellent video 👍🏿
Appreciate it!
If you have DirecTV Stream on one TV and Gemini Air on another TV do you still pay those fees?
There are no oddball fees for DirecTV Stream, unless you signed up directly with the company to get a free/reduced price Gemini Air. IIRC, that's the ONLY time you'll fall into a contract with DTV Stream.
Can you get out of market news and sports like satellite?
Does Direct TV Over the internet have delay time for sports? Or is it real time?
Pretty much all of the streaming services have at least a 20-40 second delay. TH-cam TV has an option to reduce the lag now, but it reduces the image quality.
Very helpful! Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Whats the storage capacity?
It kind of seems like you were more against it because of the ATT business practices than actually against the streaming service itself. That aside it does seem like it is one of the better available options right now, no?
it's not a bad service and i think for some people it will make sense to sign up. basically more of my beef with the company itself/how their products are marketed.
@@ShallIStreamIt Makes sense. Thanks for clarifying
Actually, DTV Stream makes a lot of sense for people who are frustrated with the inferior video quality and bizarre excuse for a DVR offered by YTTV. Other than that, you have to compare the channel lineups and buy the one that has the channels you want, or at least gets close. That being the case, why the title saying "DON'T DO IT". Their business practices don't make a lot of difference when you're watching a better picture that just about any other streamer. Yes, the marketing is confusing at best, reprehensible at worst. And you will PAY for the privilege of using either one, and MORE for DTV via Internet. But I'm just glad there are (finally!) so many choices to replace cable, From DTV at the most expensive to Frndly TV at the bottom (in price at least), there's just no way that you can't find something to watch! :)
Great review. Thanks for the information. 👍
Thanks for watching!
No discovery, food network and cooking channel now gone on Fubotv.
Just when we're trying to decide which way to go, we find your excellent analysis. Thanks for the unbiased info. We are going with DirecTV Stream, only because we want all the sports channels in one place. We do agree, however, that their business practices are and always have been suspect. Thanks again!
Great review
Does the Choice package jump in price from $108 after the first three months?
It stays the same.
In my area… that $108 becomes $115 after taxes. And since I like there NFL Network that’s another $15 for the Sports package so $130 total. Almost double what I’m paying for YTTV. That and all of the issues I’m having with the DirecTv Gemini Air are why I’m choosing to stay with YTTV
Wait isn't the Choice package include a sports package already? Like MLB Network NFL Network?@@1Road2Success
I am so sick and tired of the deceptive marketing that is so prevalent in cell phone companies and tv service providers. I used to think AT&T was the most deceptive company in America; now I am finding out that they have some competition. But this is over the top: The same service with deceptively similar names, but one with a 24 month ball busting contract and the other month to month. "somebody get a rope"
AT&T owns directv. Is the same company
Very helpful, thank you.
Just got a DirecTV add with pigeoms, anyone relate?
TH-cam TV gets my money has allows separate sign-ins whereas DirecTV and DirecTV stream does not.
This saves me from all my wife's reality shows and long menus.
TH-cam TV as far more 4K than the few channels with DirecTV and DirecTV stream and even has a four separate picture on the TV setup which again DirecTV and DirecTV do not.😊
direct tv stream is direct tv over the internet
DirecTV suck big time. They keep talking channels 😔 away from you and charge you more money. 😢😢
Great informative video i almost made this mistake myself!
Appreciate it!
Thank you very much. God bless. Jesus loves you!
Wish fubo had tnt ane thats bummer i got diret tc stream git have it all
Might be in the cards with Fubo in the future, we'll see. Think it would be hard for them to do it without a price increase, though.
Iptv for 10$. Just buy your own box. Whatever you want.
Fix your volume please.
i'll never do it!!! I use antenna and recast dvr
the dvr recast will nOt be receiving updates to it so eventually u may very well do IT!

No taxes and fees on top of the $79.99?
@@MSDOGS1976No, at least where I am there are no additional taxes/fee’s

This is a lie you can get a box and remote and it’s the same as satellite but better
This is a horrible review ans totally not true. You get Directv Stream you do not need a 2 year contract its month to month as long as you have you own stteaming device. If you want to rent there box you can sign up for a 2 yr contract.
This confusion makes me mad. Waiting on class action lawsuit over this.
