He's indeed a very good speaker. He came to my school a few years back to give a speech, I was very impressed. The school was worried about students misbehaving or not paying attention to the speech but turns out everyone were so engaged in it, nobody made a sound (did not fall asleep too) when he was speaking.

Dat Banana dr Chee also did jamus a favour by making Vivian angry by bringing up figures that reflect badly about the government, so Vivian wanted to show that he appreciates honest debaters and hates people who brings up falsehoods, and he overcompensated for it by trying to be extremely nice to Jamus and seem very angry towards Dr Chee so he inadvertently promoted a good image of Jamus. I think Vivian was also trying to mock the WP by saying that they’re not much different from the PAP but somehow Jamus turned it into something that seemed good and the audience treated Vivian’s comment as a praise towards Jamus. So I Guess Vivian’s tactics backfired

To me, one of the most underrated aspect of his replies is that he has the agility of mind to pull in points made by other speakers to enhance his own points holistically. This shows that he is not relying on memorised or scripted FAQs but has the mental fortitute to debate about policies (against a veteran minister no less) at the highest level and pressure despite being a rookie. What a gem uncovered by the WP and he has single handedly made Seng Kang GRC a highlight of the elections.

The PAP candidates can match him. Intellectual capacity and experience is something the PAP never lacks. However, when it comes to having the balls to make their voices heard, that is where PAP candidates pale in comparison to this guy. The fact that they work for the PAP means they work for the same party and groupthink is always involved in this kind of matter. They simply have to be yes man and agree with everything the PAP says even though the higher ups make decisions that are sometimes downright awful. The way things work is similar to that of the SAF. A highly intellectual guy who might be a corporal has to listen to his encik or even an inexperienced officer by virtue of his rank being below the pecking order, when in fact he could propose something better than them for the SAF. Thats why having parliament being monopolised by a single party is never a good thing, because just like a company, no matter how much "meaningful debates" they open up to their employees, that freedom of speech is only an illusion to it and will never actually be taken in consideration unless you have a superior status in the company.

No dude, the problem is the lack of good opposition. Jamus is among the few good opposition that does not resort to allegations and populist ideas. This is what we want more of around the world. A debate that does not cherry pick information, does not push blame to someone or something else, and admits that their own policies and changes do have some challenges and negative effects, and goes ahead to address those problems. Politicians generally have become more and more arrogant and aggressive, but there are politicians like Jamus who are treasures within the worsening political world.
