Have been considering this machine for a minute, particularly to cut chip board and eliminate the cost to get paper cut (most places charge a buck fifty a cut and I have not mastered the finger blade yet_lol). Since you specifically ask, re 1:55/2:00/2:06/2:13 - half of a (US) "Letter" (8.5x11") sized sheet of paper can be variously called Memo, Statement, Mini, Invoice, Stationary, or Half Letter, or 5.5x8.5" (I don't know the relative frequency of these names; they're what's listed on the wikipedia entry for Paper_size -- I know I saw a document yesterday that mentioned Statement, though). That's _approximately_ equivalent to A5, but annoyingly different in that it changes the aspect ratio (0.772727... for 8½/11, 0.6470588... for 5½/8½), whereas the ISO A-series sizes don't change aspect ratio when cut in half (always 1/√2 (~0.7071), or just √2, if one divides the long size by the short, instead of the short by the long as I've been doing) -- which is super handy! If I've got a PDF made for A4 (though rough equivalent in the ISO A-series sizes to Letter), I can "impose" it into a booklet made to be folded in half and presented as A5, or even folded and/or cut smaller to present as A6, and the aspect ratio just keeps on staying the same. It's great.
    A2 would actually be 4 sheets of A4, so roughly equivalent to double the US "Tabloid" (or "Ledger"; either way, 11x17") size, for which I don't know of a "name", but it's sometimes called "ANSI C" size, which is 17x22".
    (I've actually switched at home to using A4 (again, approximately similar to Letter) for most things... but, it's annoying in certain occasions where dealing with Letter-based stuff that really cares about the size, so... I keep some Letter around, too, and use it for some things. If I could encourage a trend of other Americans switching to the metric sizes, that'd be amazingly cool. It's Just So Much Better[tm]. ;) ... though I know, switching is hard. The more of us that do it, though, the easier it'll become!)
    Anyway, thanks for the cutter review!

    Does this work well with only a few sheets of paper? I bought the same exact one off of Craigslist today, and it is definitely bending the edge of the paper where it's cut (only at the top few inches).. not sure if I need to replace something or what. Is the red piece of plastic under your blade area all cut? Mine has several cut lines, at different spots which makes me feel weird...

    • @thepaperpandacrafts2038
      @thepaperpandacrafts2038  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not really made for cutting a few sheets of paper, it really made for cutting maybe at least 10-20 sheets, but if it’s bending edges then you might need to replace the blade ( you can get it on Amazon). As far as the red plastic piece it will get a cut line on it over time and it may have it different places because the previous owner flipped it . There is an instruction video on hfs website on how to flip that red part around and how to replace the blade. I hope that helps thank you very much for watching 😃

    Thank you very much for tutorial 😊. I recently purchased this cutter and it is brilliant .. the only thing is when I trim my notebooks the edges are jagged (only on edges of the cardstock) the paper cuts great but its scratching the edges of my card. Do you have any advice? Hope you don’t mind me asking. Thanks again

    • @thepaperpandacrafts2038
      @thepaperpandacrafts2038  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should only be doing that if the blade is dull. How many notebooks/ card stock are you cutting at once? It could be that you are cutting a little too much at one time. The amount of paper it can cut is based on regular weight copy paper. I also don’t mind questions. Thank you very much for watching. Not sure how much help that was. 😬

      @@thepaperpandacrafts2038 Thanks so much for replying. I only cut one wee notebook at a time & I cut my copy papers first (A4 down to A5) and they cut super crisp. I use 80gsm & 120gsm paper (both are cutting crisp) but yesterday I got Neenah solar card for the covers (I print on it first the pattern), I always use this Neenah card and it didn’t fray the last wee notebooks I made.
      I also make some with a kraft card covers & this doesn’t tear (it cuts nice and crisp). Im beginning to wonder is the card I got just a faulty batch as I know the blade shouldn’t be dull as I only have the machine 4 weeks and the reams of paper cut perfect. Its a great tool. Not yet, but the blade does have to be replaced every so often (blade can be found on Amazon and hardwarefactorystore.com), just depends on how much you use it. Also it could be that the little red strip that the blade stops on could need to be flipped. There are some instructional videos on their website. Hope that helps 😊

      It is difficult to cut one inch because the guid doesn’t go over that far but the measurements are there to do it. You can try lining it up by hand and not using the guid arm.

      To cut large quantities of paper… no. But you probably could just do it backwards, so instead of trying to set the guide arm to cut 2 inches off of let’s say a stack of paper 10 inches wide set the guide arm to 8 inches and have it cut the 2 inches off the end. Hope that makes sense.

    I bought this a few years ago to make inserts for my ring planner. When I cut a lot of paper, it shifts, even with the pressure foot tightened. As a result, the top half has an accurate measurement, but the bottom is a few millimeters off. When I have the paper flush against the back, the pressure foot damages the paper while cutting. I stopped using it. Does anyone one else have the same problem?

      I make notebooks/ journals, and have struggled with this too. Theres a couple things I've noticed and am still trying to fix. What I've found is that a solid sheet of 3mm greyboard [Think backing of paper pads] tends to keep the swell down [that causes the mm difference] which accures when I really clamp the paper under the foot, but can still be cut through. Also, I dont press the paper against the side edge, only the manual slider rail. I do this since I've noticed that the side edge is out of whack from the cutting grid by a fair bit, causing uneven cuts. But, when i'm just doing some quick blank books that have no lines, I usually just cut the stack once, then flip over the whole stack and cut it again to get an even edge. Hope that helped somwhat. I'd love to know anyones idea of squaring up that side edge though, its a great cutter otherwise.

    • @thepaperpandacrafts2038

      I am not a hundred percent sure, but if your talking about corrugated cardboard it might but if you’re talking about the type of chipboard I showed in the video I would start small and see what feels comfortable. Remember that the more that’s put in to cut the harder you’ll have to push down on the lever. I hope that helps a little bit.

    • @thepaperpandacrafts2038
      @thepaperpandacrafts2038  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @thepaperpandacrafts2038
      @thepaperpandacrafts2038  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s honestly hard to answer the first part of your question because it depends on what kind of paper you cut. As far as getting the blade sharpened I’m not sure if a professional could sharpen it because of the micro serrations, it might end up costing more to sharpen it than to just replace it. It handles 52 sheets easily. just getting the paper nice and square is a pain lol because of that bar, but practice makes perfect I guess. We are going for a more precise cutter for the top cut on the paper, granted it takes less at a time, but we figure we can do the final cuts once we have the precision cuts done. I'm hoping it works out well.
