A guide to some fantastically useful DJing techniques when playing in clubs that I've picked up from observing modern club DJs. - เพลง
Took me longer than I care to admit to figure out this was satire.
Me too, unfortunately...
mankymoo This was?
-SL
mankymoo but it is only half-sattire. See, the person who clicks on this video probably has the intention of being a dj for a birthday party, prom, bar/bat mitzvah, etc. NOT to apply for a dj job at a club.
Me to. I took until he said "People are here for the DJ and not the music."
Same
"Now I'm going to stop the music right there..."
Five seconds later...
"Now when playing heavy genres of music such as drum & bass or (plays music) dubstep..."
it didn't take me long to figure out he wasn't serious... Dave, you're awesome! and this was fun to watch!
Batsy Blackheart ITS NOT SERIOUS?!?
i am a dj and i approve this message
i am too i agree
I want to fit in so i agree
I'm an emp and I also agree to don't not agree
Shortcut I don't
Shortcut i am look at my name boi
lol "drunk people are rational" and "inebriated clubbers always listen to what you have to say". this is hilarious!
Solid advice, I watched it twice.
I know it's satire, but it still hurts to watch haha
I knew he wasn't serious when he said you need laptop instead of turntables to be a DJ :D
I think that's for amateur DJs. In which case, if I am a DJ in the near future, then just give me a laptop and I'm fine, besides, my elementary and middle schools did that for music DJs.
Most DJ's I know use both.
Now do a tutorial just for me: how to dj and rap at the same time.
I feel like your dead-pan sarcasm gave me asthma! Good job.
I love this! I like how it actually teaches you how to be a DJ but also simultaneously making fun of often stupid and mainstream things things popular DJ's do during their sets.
I think this video was awesome! I did exactly what he did and the crowd went crazy :o he is such a good instructor. I'm the best DJ now. *sarcasm off
I like how he makes a gun shape with his hands as he says “heath and safety is vital”
It seems like dave went to club the night before this video and was not very satisfied by the dj
You owe me a new sarcasm meter Dave. Mine just assploded in mah face....
It's 2015 and I still don'tknow if he's serious or not.
Arnar Er Besturson I'm a dj and NO he is not serious
+William Hartzell well if you're a DJ then he clearly wasn't joking :D
nah he's joking
ik m8 im just kidding xD
+Toriel Dreemurr DJ Dreemurr
You forgot turning the highpass all the fricking way up so it deafens everyone in the room.
Oh, and pretending the knobs are EXTREMELY hot.
How to DJ:
Step 1: Press play
Step 2: There is no step two
Please do.
+GabzitoHD
How to DJ
Step 1: Buy 2 turntables and mixer
Step 2: Spend years collecting records from all different genres of music
Step 3: Be able to perfectly synch two playing records by using just your ears and pitch sliders.
Step 4: Be able to do this for hours. HOURS. Taking the dancefloor into different moods and genres smoothly
Step 5: Do this for years while staying original, exciting and fresh.
Step 6: On top of all this, probably producing music yourself inbetween.
Lukas Cohen oh yes
DEAD RAVER too bad EDM sucks
GabzitoHD 1 press play
2 press stop
okay it has been 5 years, IS THIS SERIOUS OR NOT
Jamie Cifelli not
its been 7 now and its not
I started watching your videos out of pure curiosity after your collab with Mykie and now I've binge-watched your videos all the way through here. Love how you express yourself and how you always give facts and research results when discussing a topic. By far one of the most interesting channels i've ever found here on yt. Love you and your accent lots.
P.s. your really DO look like Grell from Kuroshitsuji.
haha you rule !
Wow. A Boyinaband sarcastic video where less than 20% of the people whatching think it is serious? What is this???
in all seriousness can someone tell me what controller he is using? or maybe some good recommended controllers? Your opinion is always helpful!
I use a pioneer DDJ SX (New version is the DDJ SZ).
it all depends on your preferred program. for traktor there's not much better than the kontrol S2. As for Serato, I use a Numark Ns6 and its been fantastic. Overall though, the best setup I can recommend would probably be pioneer CDJ's and mixer. its expensive, but you can use software with them as well as CD's and flash drives. Not to mention if you master those you could effectively DJ on just about anything (except maybe vinyl.) If you have the money and are serious about DJ'ing, that would be the best option. just be ready to spend around $5000
Traktor s2
Traktor Kontrol S2 by Native Instruments. They're about $800.
really? in germany it costs about 450€ thats abot 470 USD
I think, this is the most legitimate tutorial I've ever seen in my life. I mean seriously, I might actually be able to get a life going as a Dj.
Thanks Dave! Thanks to people like you, I learn something new everyday. Now I'm off to get my dj skills up and running.
Are you being as sarcastic as Dave is?
lmfao, "make sure it's 10 dB louder than the rest of the music."
Just in case you didn't catch the hyperbole, the dB is a relative measure of sonic intensity or power. The scale also logarithmic... so let's just say that 80 dB is 100 units. Add ten dB, now you have 90 dB. How many units is that? 1,000.
Eric Bishton shouldn't it be that each dB is 100 units? then the total between 80dB and 90dB would be 1,000 units. or not... maybe I'm thinking this through too far?
No. If 80dB is 100 units then 70 dB are 10 units.
Press play, walk away.
+DeadAndUnknown That's not exactly how you do it.
+Dreree /watch?v=JZWglo5FQvU
Skrillex or Steve Aoki....
Logic. ._.
you gotta stay there to make it look like youre doing your job
I feel well informed by this video!
your sarcastic video tutorials brighten my British/Canadian days
This is one of the funniest videos I've watched in a while, seriously.
as a dj, this is hilarious and hurts my soul at the same time
Wow thank you so much this really helped I can't wait to be a dj you are my idol i love these tips fuck the noobs lol i got my mac book who uses turntables lol and why dont you have beats lmao they are the best you know
Haha dude I was kidding, this whole comment was a joke. Couldn't you tell? I wouldn't dream of getting beats. Overpriced, and you can get other headphones just as good, or better, for cheaper. I have Audio Technica headphones myself, and they have proven to be great.
D Dumas It's ok dude xD
did i see you somewhere?
Who me? Well I post a lot of comments on dubstep videos, like skrillex and stuff. Maybe you've seen my comments.
yep, i was subscribed to you when i checked out your channel on this post
I had the pleasure of DJing a bar in town that is mostly known for "old people" I work at a radio station and the owner was a client of ours. The sales manager gave him my number and we talked. The deal was DJ for 4 hours, playing music the patrons would enjoy. Also this was the first Saturday of 2015 (Jan 3) and right after all the New Years Parties. So he wanted entertainment for the people who'd show up. Well at first I was playing "Today's best country" for some of the people there. They seemed to enjoy it. I added some old rock n roll for the older people. At one point there were some ladies wanting some "newer stuff" but I got my library of music completely last minute so I had the best of hits up to 2012. I played those songs till they left and added a slow song to the mix every so often. Was it the best experience? It wasn't an awful time although I was coming down with a cold. I had a mic set up just incase but didn't even bother using the damn thing. Would I do it again? Well I'd prefer playing an actual instrument for people but it wasn't like I could just play bass for four hours and call it a show (I can't sing, and I couldn't get even pretend to get a band together for such a thing) But I would because I'm broke and doing anything to support myself on my own. Anybody have something similar?
TL;DR
One of your best tutorials to date :D
It is easier than shoveling manure. And it pays a hell lot better.
the airhorn :'D
thank you for the upload man.I would have never gotten my D.J Carree going with out the help of your informational video it has taught me so much an how to be the best dj'er out there :)
Greatest instructional video ever. Period.
Sounds like you've been to a lot of awful parties
For all the people that think he is serious....he is not.
so funny so good ....Dave at his sarcastic best ....great fun ....nice to see you uploading ....again homie
Thank you for this video. I myself know very little about what DJs do so sometimes we have misunderstandings with my brother who is a DJ, but this video gave me an idea on what is actually going on.
Hes being sarcastic for the most part
yeah, the most part...
no shit sherlock
haha, made my day :D
best video you've done, really
If those are some of the more common ones of your clubbing experiences than you have my deepest condolences. Nicely done^^ I laughed so hard at the BPM matching part with dat horn :D
Aaaahhhh, Mainstream DJs to a T. Underground rave DJs (or even club DJs) are a shit ton better.
this is a joke right
yeah it kinda is a joke. these are things you want to avoid as a dj. basically take some from the video, the rest is just comedy.
Every time i spin at my local club, i make sure to use these tips.
I don't know what planet this guys been playing out on, but where I come from when we go out, ITS ONLY FOR THE MUSIC & NOT TOO SCREAM @ THE DJ & COME WITH THEM MAD DANCES YOU DESCRIBED!!! P.&.s.m.f.a.o with laughter!!! Big up dude
Wondering if this was a poke at Aoki... ?
Or skrillex
+TheArnisondude nah skrillex is good, he's probably poking at David Guetta
+Sàmhach skrillex is a talented producer an awful DJ
+TheArnisondude I don't think there is such thing as a bad dj, because they all do the same thing
+Sàmhach yes, as do guitarists but your telling me that Jimmy Hendrix or Van Halen is of equal talent to that of Nick Jonas
This is hilarious
This is the 4th time I watched it. Awesome!
By far my favorite are the talking djs. Gotta love it!
There is literally no reason to use the mic, you're music should speak for itself.
Now, I'm no musician, and certainly no dj, but I get the feeling this video is at least 15% sarcasm...
Oh, yeah, prolly.
so much sarcasm 😂😂
Perfect! dead on with everything that grinds my gears!
Haha really enjoyed this video ! You're a genius !
i don't know how i got here but this is hilarious, imagine the poor fool that believes they just found the holy grail... Sorry if your weekend ends up like this.
I know this is a joke, but just so everyone knows, DJing is a lot harder then you expect. But I did think this was really funny ^-^
Best. DJ. Tutorial. Ever.
this is useful. keep up the good work mate! :)
to all the people asking if this is a joke, you are joking right? ooOOOooo inception
I feel embarrassed because Phasing, filtering, and beat repeat are all I'd know how to do live. On a tiny controller no less lol.
Buy more effects if you use serato.
***** haha really? I have a numark mixtrack pro 2 as well. It's a toy compared to my new XDJ RX. The numark mixtrack pro 2 is a great start.
Uchiha Itachi xDJ-RX is nothing compared to the NS7 III.
Patrick Booth M8. Rekordbox owns. Numark quality sucks anyways
PsychGoth That's still more effects than me! Simple vinyl turntables and a rotary mixer are all I use
My Dad had bought a £40 DJ course that I haven't even used since the first tutorial. This is so much more convenient and clear :)
Dude, LOVE this sarcasm here.
I hope that was a joke.
Of course it was.
Brandon Wittekind Good.
Fin Infinite *takes a puff out of sherlock style pipe* Indeed.
Nah I don't think this was a joke guys....
***** Bop It is hard
This tutorials is so ahead of his time :) cool
Einfach nur hammer!!! Endlich mal ein tutorial was sagt wie es richtig geht :D Go on !!!!
At first I thought you were being serious about the video.... but shorty into it I started getting the sarcasm. Great video. The rewind.
God, I love this video, I watch it whenever I need a laugh.
his voice is mesmerizing i could just listen to him talk about whatever for however long.
There are still more people than ever before who truly love the art. :D
I like how you say "Hi" in the beginning. :)
Very nice video! I learned alot watching this Vid thanks alot Dave ^,^
Spot on Dave, spot on!
this is hilarious, hes obviosly sarcastic, i think he is talking about what like some people think how easy it is to be a dj, well its not. its hard and u need t obe skilled, boyinaband is awsome! keep the music up :D
BEST TUTORIAL EVER.
Thanks! I will try that!
Loved this.
This is amazing
This was awesome!
Well this was really funny and entertaining video, more humoristic videos like this would be awesome :)
its all metaphorical, brilliant
THis is some good stuff man, and STOP HATING you guys talk like you'd expect this man to make you the next DJ BL3ND!
I'm a beginner dj.... And this is sooooo true. Hahaha ....I even have that same controller. My headphones are a lil more badass....but only because I got them at 10% of the amount for which they usually sell. Well played!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO
Great tips! Don't forget to download generic 30 min. mixes so you don't have to do anything except crossfade into the next mix. Don't even worry about beatmatching the mixes either. Just slam them in. Also put your own drops over the mix every minute so no one forgets your name.
I recommend the Numark 1cd-mix3 for beginners. No laptops! You can get one for about $350. It has 2 cd players and a mixer all in one. Good pitch control and XLR outs. Reads MP3's from CD and is well made.
This is brilliant
That was brilliant !
D Dumas
I'm talking about his humour, I like it, when people make you believe they are being serious, and slowly you start to doubt, and by the half of the video you're absolutely sure they're joking, and then you start to really enjoy it.
LOL best video ive seen all day, most srs troll ive seen
Oh my, this is just too true!
thx i actually saw you first in one of minx's videos
When ever i watch a how to video i feel the need to try it.
Hahaha! Love it, dB. More humour is always better. ;)
hahah that sample part was the best with the horn :D just last night i was playing with a dj who kept using that :D
Holy shit you nailed it on the head... Love this
What makes it so good, is that some of it is true, such as that clbbers have an extremely short memory span
Live showing of DJs do almost nothing but when they produce, all the hard work are there.
I was gonna get those Sennheiser headphones, but I ended up going with the headset with the mic. It's still really good, well worth the money,
thats the traktor kontrol s2 from native instruments hes using. i have one as well, and i would recommend it or its four channel counterpart the kontrol s4. Traktor software/controllers are an awesome dj hardware/software combination and id definitely recommend it. the s2 is the cheaper version, coming in at around $400 (i got mine back when it was $600... -.-). Its very easy to learn and has a lot of features. im obviously not as reputable as Dave, but thats what i have to say on the matter :)
