With the benefit of slow-mo (thanks NYCA) I think this looked way worse than it actually was. There's several things going on here - 1) They were definitely caught out by crosswind gusts, causing too much float, touching down much further on than normal. (Runway 22R - wind 280/12- gusting 25) Typical landing speed (obviously varies depending on weight, alt, pressure, temp, wind speed/dir etc) would be 135-140 kts, max thrust, with flaps 25/30 ......takeoff would be 160-180 kts, idle or low thrust, with flaps 5/10 2) The plane may behave very differently to pitch inputs from one config to the other - perhaps the nose came up way faster than expected?....prompting a sudden leveloff to avoid tail strike or stall? 3) I can't tell exactly when go-around was decided, but bearing in mind the time it takes to spool up from idle(ish) to max TOGA thrust & accelerate to VR/V2, I wonder if they should have waited a little longer before pitching nose up?? There was plenty runway left to get the plane stabilised. Just my thoughts as an observer......would be great if a pilot could chip in here. But in hindsight, although a little messy looking, I think they did ok in tricky conditions
My thoughts exactly ! Centurion 😎 Seriously though, great observance. When we saw it live, the first second or two it was just a rocky landing. It's when the nose came up for the go around, then began to drop again is when i held my breath.
@@NewYorkCityAviation I'm not surprised - different for you actually being there. If it went wrong he could have landed in your lap 🤣. I had another thought after my earlier comment.....as they initiated go-around they were probably passing out of the wind shadow of the delta terminal.....perhaps they got a big gust just at the wrong moment? ......also, the wind bends around large structures, so perhaps that was a factor? Jeez, I'm such a nerd! Lol

I watched the live stream yesterday. Now I can see how dangerous it was. Not only the landing, but also the takeoff were extremely unsafe. 😬
Yeah after he lifted the nose then dropped it again. When the plane went horizontal i really thought it was going to end up in Jamaica Bay 😳🤕
@@NewYorkCityAviation The flying pilot was either inexperienced or reacted in panic.
@@AMBauer_au71 Exactly my thoughts, it seemed like a panic move.
Wow wee 😮
WOW!😲
Yeah that was pretty crazy. I'm sure they handed out new underwear upon arrival 😳
Credit to pilots for saving it
Yeah the captain probably grabbed the stick and brought it up 👊
wow
I know, pretty crazy for the passengers I'm sure 👊

@fifthoarsmanoftheacropolis4173 Well at least it would be lights out pretty fast 😳
Agree 100% for sure 👊 Was very focused 👌
