    RIP Mizuki Ichiro who passed away on Dec 6th, 2022 and also sang the OP of Daitetsujin 17 and countless anime and tokusatsu series. Long live the King! #ripmizukiichiro

    I LOVE DAITETSUJIN 17! I have loved the show since seeing it as the compilation film BRAIN 17 and years later as untranslated episodes online. It's a fun and colorful series worthy of a US blu-ray release. THANK YOU so much for a nearly half-hour video on the series which I will be sharing tomorrow across social media.

    I once went to an Anime Japan Fes concert in Shibuya and Aniki opened the show with the OP to this.

    Yay! My 2nd favorite tokusatsu (after Spectreman) and , as you said, the forerunner of so many things to appear in series up to this day. I don't necessarily think of 17 as a giant robot series, but as a character development story with 17, not Saburo-kun, as the MC. No matter the reason (ratings, need for more items to sell), the idea of growth for an AI from sentience to sapience to self-sacrifice is huge. I feel it was an important idea that fueled some of my favorite stories in the later Yuusha (Brave) series. Shame that like all other gems from Japan, the rest of the world will never see it in its pure form (because it is believed that revenue from international release is never enough to justify producing international copies) and we get heavily edited "localizations" that don't give justice for the original.

    The 17 robot would make a great model kit in the same style as bandai's gunpla kits. Great video

      @@JapanHero it's been a real treat so far, I have actually taken to rationing the show a little bit as I don't want it to end lol!
      I am planning on watching the live action show next, it'll be the first tokusatsu show I have watched since I was a kid, but it is a genre that I have been wanting to get back into because as I get older (I am all 40) I have found anything that can emotionally take me back to the innocence of my youth is something that I should treasure. That plus I have recently started to learn Japanese in earnest as I am going to be studying there as a mature student, which is daunting enough at my age, but add to that my current complete lack of understanding of the language (besides the real, real basics), well anything I can do to immerse myself in the language the better!
      Sorry for rambling, thanks again for your channel, I've found it to be really helpful and interesting. Wishing you all the best!

    I loved the military theme of this show. What other showa era Tokusatsu series would you say have a similar military focus like this one?

  • @Jolar70
    @Jolar70 ปีที่แล้ว

    You've convinced me that I have to see the whole series!
    I first encountered this show via that horrible, curious, VHS release; "Brain 17"! I knew enough of tokusatsu, even back then, that I could recognize a path between Tetsujin 28, Giant Robo, and Dai Tetsujin 17. Yet, it's just visually ugly! The child actor is too old to be cute, and too young to be cool, The mecha design is poor (next to a Giant Robo, or a Battle Fever Robo, that comes just after it)!
    If a show lacks a charismatic lead, and a cool robot, it's hard to defend a clunky ripoff of a better show from the 1960's! Star Wars was about to re-draw the entire tokusatsu landscape. But, I love that 17 plots evolved over its series arc. It will always look ugly to me, but I want to see its evolution! Thanks for posting these always fun and informative reviews!

      s@@ViewpointProdMate....what I am getting at is that I am sure he may not have a choice in the matter given his possible current situation and tools needed to do so. That, or he may just not be aware on how to do so. These videos are a learing process for everyone involved. WHile you may not have said that, it comes off as if you are dissatisfied wi th his work, or that you are annoyed with his process. Instead of asking him to stop, maybe ask him if he needs help figuring out how to do so, or even just add constructive criticism. Your demand came off as snarky, that's all.

    I really didn't like how the series ended up after Tetsugoro Iwayama and the Panther girls showed up. I feel like all the episodes starting from then were REALLY pandering to kids. The show just isn't as good with the red muffler soldiers and conventional military vehicles showing up less and less and Captain Gomez and Kidd being killed off
