    I like how iron king slowly gets stronger and began to win plus he was one to have to save Gentaro as the series went on

    I'll always have a special place in my heart for this series, because its style and scripting seemed to stand out a good bit from other toku series of the era, with a focus on fun and characterization; with the interplay between Goro and Gentaro making some really interesting storylines. I love virtually everything about it. I must echo Gigantis' sentiments below - it's almost a perfectly-balanced representation of what made Showa-era tokusatsu television so entertaining...

      I love it! What a great way to summarize everything that makes Iron King such a special series. 😀

    Iron king has some political undertones. The Shiranuhi group is supposed to be the remnants of the Shiranuhi people, who were subjugated by the Yamato people (current Japanese majority) and seeking independence thru military means. This reflected the independence movements of the Ainu and the Ryukyu peoples in 70s-80s. The 2nd enemy group is obviously modeled to resemble the PLO, along with which many Japanese communists (the JRA commands) fought to win back the land of the Palestines from the state of Israel.
    Many Tokusatsu/anime shows in 70s were like that. For example, “Rainbow Man” fights a White colonialists conspiracy to eradicate the Japanese, and the show advocates some pan-Asianism ideology (the protagonist travels to India and is helped by Deva-Datta, a famous Yogi.)

      Thank you so much for touching on this! You're spot on, the writer of the series was very politically active and used Iron King and other works to convey his perspective and criticisms of the government and historical events.
      I found a lot of information on it on the Japanese internet but didn't feel qualified or informed enough to frame it correctly for this video. Maybe in a future one, when I have more time to dive into the topic. It's quite interesting once you start looking through it. Thanks again!

      Rainbowman fights a conspiracy of those seeking revenge for World War II. The Shine Shine Dan first appear in Makao (episode 4) Mr. K seems to be Roman Catholic, he crosses himself before he executes his failed agents. Rainbowman is more serial than other tokusatsu, it ran for 52 episodes but the Shine Shine Dan only had 6 evil schemes for destroying Japan which Rainbowman defeated. The Shine Shine Dan agents are supposed to come from all over the planet though of course mostly Japanese actors. Mr. K's second in command are women named Diana, Mitchy. Cathy. Malinda, Norma (those two supposed to be American assassins, they carry guns) , Olga, Lolita. To fight magic with magic Mr. K hires the sorceress Iquana but she dies at Rainbowman's hand so her mother shows up seeking his blood, needed in a spell to ressurect her. She is NOT on Mr. K's side and will in fact kills his agents if they get in her way. Rainbowman doesnt actually show up until episode 3 and the evil Mr. K until episode 4. Yamato, Takeshi not to be confused with Ultraman 80 starts out as a self centered jerk. His goal in finding the yogi is selfish. Deva-Datta has a vision of this young man becoming Rainbowman so he trains him to become Rainbowman despite his brash personality.

      Palestine? Nowadays I heard that many of us tokufans are siding with Palestine... True, I guess we view that Israel's actions are very dangerous... That is why we don't like Zionists, and I don't think I support Israel due to their atrocities

    Great video! This is one of my favorite Tokusatsu shows of all time, really loved how it mixed the styles of Ultraman and Masked Rider for something quite unique in comparison. Lovable characters and amazing fights, a simple but fun story as well, to me this is what represents Tokusatsu best I feel.
    You also brought up so many new pieces of information I didn't know about, so that's another great thing about this video, wonderful job!
    (I really hope Bravestorm is continued, the Iron King tease at the end got me hyped lol.)

    But how did that re editing with that Machineman announcement lead to that Ultraman urban legend.

    • @JapanHero
      @JapanHero  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically, the audience watching Iron King during this period was very young. To them Iron King was an "Ultraman". So when he goes evil at the end of episode, and it just ends and cuts away to the Machineman announcement, those young audience members ended up having a fuzzy memory of Ultraman joining the monsters and destroying the city in one of the series' final episodes.

    i managed to catch an episode of this series years ago and its certainly unique in execution. now, i wonder if you have any information about silver kamen at all, i heard it has problems with it productions, maybe someday you provide us information about that.

      As it happens I made a Silver Kamen Video a while back, but had to take it down. It's in my "to clean up and re-edit" pile. You're spot on, the show had production issues from the moment they started recording episode 1. Then they ran into ratings issues, which led to the format change. I hope to repost that video soon. I'm glad you left this comment as it's a good reminder that I need to get to it! 😆

    I thought this series was interesting and different because 1) Iron King's biggest weakness was that he was powered by water, 2) The hero was human based, not alien, and 3) having three factions trying to take over Japan and the world kept you guessing.

    • @JapanHero
      @JapanHero  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really was. A tremendously fun series to watch that keep things lively through those three story arcs.

    Seeing that part mentioning Silver Mask made me wonder if you'll ever reupload or remake your old Silver Mask video.

    • @JapanHero
      @JapanHero  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! I will be making a new version of it at some point in the next few months. Waiting until I have a chance to go through some of the new books that have been published since that video was originally posted. I'd like to make more thorough and better produced version of the original episode. Thanks for the request!

    I found the series a long time before the 2007 set and I remember trying to show it off to my friends because it was an "unknown" Ultra like show at the time. Most of them didn't care for it. The SPFX was surely was not up to snuff of the Ultraman shows. I like the fact that were was basically 3 Sagas. Almost like the original DBZ run. The Titanias was my fav though. Love the insect designs and the Guy--faux mask costumes. :)
