    So glad to see you two back. My fav flower growing channel on TH-cam. You two are a wealth of knowledge. I just bought your growing masterlist and love the details I've been reading to find in the past few years. Thank you two for the informative channel. This channel has been an inspiration for me to pivot into the farming business after gardening for years! Thank you.

    I enjoy your videos so much! I know they are primarily made for women but this almost 63 year old grandfather has started expanding my backyard gardening endeavors for several years, including cut flowers the last two years. The flowers compliment my vegetable gardening, and I enjoy having cut flowers all spring, summer and fall-hoping to expand enough to always have some to give away! I enjoy your relationship as sisters, especially the laughter! I look forward to seeing your new gardens develop and grow!

    I started with $2000.00 just for a mini flower garden!!!
    2-5X50 beds for sunflowers, 9-30in X 20ft beds for annuals,
    8 various other beds for perennials, next will be shade plants and more perennials!! Maybe one day I can become a florist/ farmer as well!! Right now it's a hobby!! Learning all I can helps!!!

    • @rootdesigncompany

    At 50 something, I definitely have to account for inflammation with cut flower growing! Bahaha! Thank you for all of your great information! I think what you said about knowing what you want to do can definitely help with being overwhelmed. When I realized I didn't have the room for all the various flowers needed for bouquet making, I reduced how many types I would grow so I could focus on selling to florists. Also, I love to see you all in your cut flower garden and the work you do there (though I know it's changing). There is so much to learn in watching as well as listening. Lastly, are the white flowers in the beginning video Larkspur (0:15)?

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, good one! You are so right, getting clear on what you can/want to do is probably the first step. We'll try to include more garden clips. I found a bunch in the archives. 😅 The white flowers are perennial David Phlox.

    Love the advice to start small! I’m definitely a spring flowers kind of girl. I’m not sure how it would go if I decided to start doing it full time. I know that I have a lot more garden spirit in spring when the weather is perfect so I decided to start with tulips. I’m hoping that I at least break even. I tried to average the cost of the bulbs @ $.75 a piece but I didn’t always make the smartest choices. There’s also the cost of my stand, labels, sleeves and sign. I plan to design the labels + care instructions on Canva then print off my computer here at home. I have a big roll of brown wrapping paper that Im using for sleeves. Not sure what I’ll do for a sign… maybe a poster board and hand write it. 🤔 I have a lady with two shops along Main Street lined up to sell at and a back up to sell at my job the days I’m working there. Plan B- I’m friends with a local florist. She said she’d take them. I need to ask if they need to be a certain stem length. I was in her cooler yesterday and saw she had some 12” ones. She does a lot of wedding work.
    One variety of tulips started to come up already. Is that normal for Ohio? 🤔 This year has been unseasonably warm.

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you have a solid selling plan! 👍 I think we had tulips poke through in January one year, but they didn't end up blooming too much ahead of schedule.

    • @adalineblythe9653
      @adalineblythe9653 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rootdesigncompany definitely glad to hear that! I’m going to be gone over the end of March beginning of April. Did you have to pick them more than once a day? I do have the option to keep a few of them chilled because someone once said they wouldn’t recommend tulips without a option to keep them chilled.

    Can heat loving annuals season be pushed any with extension methods? Been wondering if I could jump start dahlia season under a low tunnel? I already start them up inside, but is it too risky for heat lovers to be out in a frost even if protected? Or does this go under the big black hole of “must experiment on one’s own” category?! 🙈😁

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's all a big black hole, isn't it? :D lol We are actually working on a blogpost about this, but yes, we have started dahlias in micro tunnels before the last frost date with good success. It helps them get established before the heat of summer. Low Tunnels would be perfect too.
      Don't ask us how many of those same dahlias went down a black hole when we decided to leave them in over winter. Won't be writing how-to blog posts on that anytime soon!

    Or would that not have saved them ??

    • @rootdesigncompany
      @rootdesigncompany  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we've used a lot of frost cloth when Spring temps do what they do in Ohio. #dip We've saved a lot of plants that way.

    Are you guys going to be ok???? After the worst chemical train wreck, so worried about you, they are saying DO NOT sign nda or take money if offered, lawyers are ready for the fight, so serious, I’m so concerned for all who are within the 1000 mile radius for the fall out. And why are journalists getting arrested trying to report??? And why such a big media black out??? And where are the environmental activists??? It’s so sad. 😢 praying for everyone, their farms and their animals ❤

    I’ve been meaning to comment. Love the new video logo and ahh all the little clips from your past gardens. 😌 🤍🤍🤍
    I recently rewatched a bunch of your videos. Do y’all have more footage of the DA roses? You have a video of the plants in spring when you pruned but I only saw one or two more clips of them.
    Would love to see the what the whole plant looks sometime if it fits in a video sometime. Thanks so much for sharing your process.
