As an automotive service technician... I often looked at Subaru for their large engine bay as a good swap for an American V8. Yep...I need one . Note... There is no physical difference between a a 4.8 ltr and a 6.2 ltr on the outside dimensions.
I'm from Winnipeg. This is a really cool build. I saw this at a second garage car meet a few months ago. That's how you make reliable Subarus, my friends! Would love to see some cruising videos.
@melvin_broh definitely a reliable subaru now! I unfortunately don't get out cruising as much anymore, as it seems that I spend a lot of time south of the border. But maybe next year I will have to get out a few times here locally
I'd have liked to have seen it up on the lift to see what they did with the headers and exhaust work as well as the crossmember, oil pan, steering rack, fab work for the motor and trans mounts, if they sealed off where the half shafts mate to the knuckles in the front, etc.
heck ya Bud ! a Fellow Canadian , ill follow this channel for sure ! the Boxer motor is soo obsolete in todays standards , prehistoric technology , but the consumers ( fans ) love the sound of the engines , so they keep selling them , the boxer motors are guttless ! so I dont blame ya for swapping an LS in there !
Jeez I had a mockup of our RS with an LS. I changed my mind and then we built a 10,000rpm NA motor. I don't regret it the sound was awesome. Sure miss that car. Great build buddy. Hello from 🇨🇦 & 🇫🇮
I have a build VA and love it! but I will never agree with the "you killed the car" is an awesome build. And if you enjoy it! is just smiles per gallon!........period!
Really cool swap, very impressive I always wanted to see one of these in person. More then likely will do it in the near future. I was just upset to hear the Subaru “head gaskets, rod knock” that’s stale, I do build engines for a living, and usually guys don’t know much about the boxer engine but it’s not such a common problem for the car it’s the owner that had the car that makes those knocks and gaskets go, but I respect this build to the fullest extent.
ahhh, so this isn't AWD... yeah deff some SS or even CTS-v parts... think a CTS-V swap will be my next build after i go through this iag stage-2 block w/ dominator 1.5xtr @ 22PSI, currently @ 500whp... i miss that good old naturally aspirated power -2005 STI
Sounds like a beefy Holden in AussieLand back when i was there years ago, I couldn’t believe the 4 door Beast cars racing around or idling at red lights before taking off like Drag strip green lights. 😂
Best and cheapest way to build a Subaru is the same as the quickest way to puss off a purist. Take the boat anchor out the front and swap it K series or a V8 more affordable parts and reliability.
If you use an aluminum block its not too bad. The engine and trans are shifted rearward, plus the weight doesnt change much especially when you subtract the weight of the front axles, turbo, and intercooler. A t56 and subie 5 speed are the same weight, and an sti 6 speed is heavier than a t56. Wouldnt shock me if a well thought out build would end up lighter and with better weight distribution.
Did you merge your factory harness to the LS harness to retain all your current chassis amenities? Or did you use one of the brz ls swap harness and modify? Or did you pay a company like iwire for a harness?
me and my friends were just talking about this!1 u have a va wrx and the motor blew, rebuilt it and still doesnt run perfect liek it should so once this blows i wanna ls swap it, what motor mounts did he use?
I didn’t know it would actually be possible lmao. I’ve been really wanting to LS swap my 2019 STI lately. Any recommendations or suggestions how I could LS swap mine?
Freakin awesome. I have a stock '20 STI, and I would LOVE it if it were RWD and V-8 powered. With the LS in particular, I bet it gets better mpg than with the EJ257. I'd want to keep the manual though. Maybe a nice TR-6060.
@@ThatTrackChannel actually I am scoring a wrx without any drivetrain and interior so I’m gonna try to use that car for the swap and keep my Impreza for a daily
You have any actual experience or info, realistically I can't imagine it being an extra 200 maybe 300 pounds considering you're losing the turbo and piping too and likely the AC unless he was able to get it to work.
@That Track Channel I want to look into a swap eventually for my 2011 sti. I was thinking a 4.0 flat 6 out of a 911 gt3 rs but I dont know how it would work being a rear engine. I'm not sure that's something that could be overcome or not. I'd probably retain the awd if possible too bc I daily it in Montana winter.
cool swap still missing subie rumble i don't buy a fuckin harley to put a yamaha engine in it do i no i buy a fucken harley cause of the rumble. just missing that sweet sweet flat four rumble.
"Something you don't see everyday" 😂😂 It's an LS in a Subaru. I knew the guy that did the first swap. All that work to be just as slow as a STi and break more drivetrain parts.
I guess anything is theoretically possible, just at what cost. I would assume you would almost need transfercase and front diff etc probably from something like a trailblazer ss. Maybe it's easier than that, I'm just guessing what might be needed to do such a thing, maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in lol.
I mean technically you would just need a bellhousing adapter and figure out flywheel and clutch but it wouldn't be too hard. Look up hondaru it's a 1000hp k swapped sti
Truth is he did the swap just to make it easier to get at the sparkplugs.
Lol, ain't that the truth!
Nah he wanted to make 500 whp without blowing 40k
@@Aether52 awe c'mon man that's only 20k for 500whp
I was gonna comment the same shit 😂😂😂
@@Aether52 you can get an sti to 500hp with about 20k

I have a stock '20 STI and I often fantasize about having an LS3 and RWD!
“Subaru large engine bay” lmfao
@@cloudgaming3043 Left to right it is.
It still awd tho?
Thanks for sharing about your momma... I been going through the same thing. Stay up and Bless Up!!
Best part is that the hood closes and you can actually drive it. You can even put an electric motor in a subie if you have the money.
Tyler giving off suuuuuuper awkward “I don’t know what to do with my hands” energy.
😂
It’s all good tho..
Sounds like Tyler should have taken the VW store to court, but very cool swap
Yeah, shitty situation at first but the end result is much better!
This is sick! And then I saw the Manitoba plate 🇨🇦. I really hope I see this thing on the road one day
It is his daily, so I'm sure one day you will run into it.

Mine isnt a gen 3 GM engine but it sure is fun to drive. The turbo V8 makes these super car status.
been searching for VA WRX/STIs with engine swaps since I saw smeedia's flat 6 swapped STI and this popped up at the right time!
Glad to hear! There is another vid on my channel of another sti (hawkeye) with an EJ33 swap too!
A Hellcat engine in a Subaru Ascent, with no cosmetic changes. 👍

💯 build what you love, man. I don't care if you put in a 125 HP Corolla engine into a Corvette if that's what you wanted to do
Blew my STI motor recently, and I have several LM7 laying around and doing something like this def crossed my mind 🤣

Very impressed
i have a '16 STi, and i would LOVE to do this swap... but somehow keep the 6-speed manual and AWD
Thay would be really awesome!
You mean to tell me you can't have a awd and a 6 speed?
Fck that, at this point get yourself a real LS car.
Possibly look into a trailblazer SS drivetrain
i just wanna know what mount he used

The first American Subaru.
Solid reliable swap for once! 😅

How did do the engine and transmission mounts? I can't find anything on it.

It"s probably only good for making a left turn
