One thing the show never specifically says that is important to know about the world of Fallout is that while the pre-war world looks like the 1950s, it is in fact 2077 when the bombs fall. The pre-war world is meant to emulate what people of the 1950s thought the future would look like. Kind of like the Jetsons.

6:10 This actor also voices Cecil from the Amazon show "Invincible" btw. Don't know if you know that show but I can really recommend also watching it. It's animated and involves super heroes ( similar to x-men 97) and is basically just as shocking at times.

The Fallout show is not an adaptation of a certain Fallout game but it's own original story set an Fallout universe. The show takes place nine years after Fallout 4 the latest game in the series timeline-wise. Fallout 4 took place in 2287 (210 years after Bombs Dropped) with the game itself being set on the East Coast within the Commonwealth previously known as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Boston being a major city in the game. Fallout New Vegas was the last game set on the West Coast so from New Vegas to the TV show it's been 15 years since the events of New Vegas. Both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 take place on the East Coast so slightly disconnected from the classic games along with New Vegas which have more impact on the TV series. It's not brought up in the show but the Brotherhood of Steel travelling in the airship are from the East Coast. But for the most part the series pulls more from the lore and factions of the West Coast games.
    Timeline:
    Fallout 1 - 2161
    (Southern California)
    Fallout 2 - 2241
    (Northern California, Nevada)
    Fallout 3 - 2277
(Capital Wasteland, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, D.C Area)
    Fallout New Vegas - 2281
(Mojave Wasteland, Nevada, California, Las Vegas Area)
    Fallout 4 - 2277
    (The Commonwealth, Massachusetts, Boston Area)
    Fallout TV - 2296
    (California, L.A Area)

A few points, the series uses game logic, so there are instant healing items (the needle Lucy used is called a stimpac and restores your health).
The Brotherhood is based on medieval Knights and yes, Maximus job as squire is to carry the knights stuff. (the giant bag is a comment on the ridiculous size of the inventory a character has in the game).
The Ghoul is a mutant and is essentially immortal.
Norm became my favorite character by the end of the series.
The show is very good, but does not hold your hand or spew information with expositions, its up to the viewer to figure it out, which I loved.

5:29, one thing I thought was odd about this scene is they were looking at the flash. If memory serves me correctly, looking at a nuclear explosion is like staring at the sun. You can't do that from this close a distance without going blind at least temporarily.
But aside from that one nitwit, this was a solid opening episode for this franchise. I've played a little bit of the Fallout games but due to being busy I've yet to finish.
Also I'm a big fan of Walton Goggins from back in his days on The SHIELD and Justified on FX. So this was a treat to see him chew scenery. Mykelti Williamson who plays Honcho and one another supporting play in this show are also from Justified.

Nukes in Fallout don't function like real-world nukes. Like everything else in the Fallout world, the similarity between the tech of this world and tech of the 1940s/50s is purely surface-level. So while it looks like an old-school a-bomb explosion, it is in fact some future bomb created with some unspecified future tech. Which means it can function pretty much any way the creators of the show want it to work.
