Such a helpful and insightful interview. I was considering purchasing a head device but this has made me decide to wait until there is further research and understanding on safety.
My mind was majorly blown when he said ‘there’s a theory in quantum physics that our memories are stored in the universe and accessed by alpha waves’ 🤯🤯🤯 that is such an interesting and exciting concept 🤓 would love to learn more about that.

Dr. Martin Pall was first to research the oxidative stress with ROS (reactive oxygen stress) (formerly called free radicals). Look for YT PALL presentations and reearch papers.
I wonder what Dr Beck thinks about using the light to correct the mitochondia which have been ravaged by misbehaving mast cells as in Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
For the questions that you don't know....can you ask Dr Beck to answer them? Some of our questions may stimulate him to investigate further.

My son has had a normal EEG for 24 years and seizures that Dr's have never really seen before. I would love to try new therapies because in the US all the Dr's do is throw drugs at him, never looking at why his normal brain does these events. I would love to go to a Funcional Neurologist, this Dr is brillant. I love this interview, I am looking for insight to try to find a cure so my son does not have to worry about these again.
Gut brain connection is so interesting as well.

This was by far the best interview for my interest. As a clinical researcher who has been focusing PBMt for chronic inflammatory response syndrome, specifically in areas of neuro, immune / gut and cardiovascular inflammation. Dr. Beck’s insights on the mechanism of action, and the pathways of activation were so very insightful and confirms many of the other modalities that I think are important, such as nutraceuticals that can be combined to improve the outcomes. For example Dr. Lima in the United States has been focusing on the use of methylene blue to improve outcomes of PBMt. Wish there was more formal training on activation points and dosing for stem cells. Can we develop a curriculum for education with Dr. Beck ?

Hey, thank you so much for the comment.
Yeah I feel found Dr Becks wisdom and explanations to be extremely engaging and concise. I am going to be sharing this interview with a lot of new comers.
Thanks for telling me about Dr Lima, I am going to look into this topic more.
As for an education curriculum - this is a neat idea. It's something I will be sure to mention to Dr Beck when I speak to him next. I know Thor Laser run a day long course and some free webinars - You can check them out here - www.thorlaser.com/courses/

This video likely won't have as many 100% views as your others, but it should. Thank you so much to Dr Beck for dedicating his research to this and taking the time to share his finding in simple terms and examples with us. His research reveals concerns in how we use RLT (or the sun), and shows we need more development in this promising science. Can't wait to hear the product mfgs scramble to respond to Dr Beck's findings and recent research (despite the mfgs non-commitment by using words like "may", "might", "could", etc).

Fascinating interview. My question is when Dr. Beck mentioned that he felt therapy below the eyes was safe, how does that translate to red light therapy? Was he saying he had reservations about using red light therapy on the face and head? Or was he only referring to laser treatment in that statement? Thanks

I loved this interview! It explained a lot of my long Covid symptoms that I had after Covid. My immune system was hyper active and the information about the gut/brain relationships explained a lot of why I was having autoimmune symptoms along with allergic reactions. Thankfully I have already calmed my immune system by brain retraining and healing my gut. I am wanting to invest in an red light panel to increase my energy and possibly continue my gut healing!

You can use English subtitles to take the accents out. Dr Beck has Canadian accent, the bald guy is Australian. You can also set the subtitle language to one that you understand. The transcript of the video is found in the vid description. But be aware that the transcript and the subtitles are generated by the AI computer. It all depends if the computer picks up the spoken words. (Sometimes it is completely correct but other times not. My voicemails are transcribed by AI and sent to my email...but sometimes it is complete gibberish. Then I have to listen to the voicemail to actually see what it said. Usually it seems like if person speaks too fast or too softly or not clearly enunciating the words...the computer can't understand it.) Also google translator is used to translate the words from English to your target language. But if your language is spoken in many different countries, the variability of the vocabulary differs. So sometimes the translation may not make sense to you. Now add in the difficulty of the medical terminology, etc. But with the 'helps' of the subtitles in English or your language (in YT settings), you can understand it.

  • @protovu

Thank you for this excellent presentation.
Dr. Beck referred preferentially to laser for his research. Yet, most of your viewers probably found this interview through research into consumer products which you have reviewed that are more Redlight and NIR, correct?
If the spectrum of tissue penetration moves from redlight-least through laser- most (which laser ?) with NIR somewhere in between, can the associated risks be quantified in a graph for us? Your graphs have been excellent for this sort of thing.
Specifically, what is the risk of lypolysis associated with the light therapy spectrum mentioned above? The brain and myelin are composed greatly of cholesterol (lipids), is the benefit/risk for potential above eye therapy for some brain or eye issue quantifiable in any meaningful way?
The dillema seems: As you have pointed out, there are known mitochdrial and healing benefits from these therapies. The brain has lots of mitrochondria and their diminishment through age or disease may be associated with neuro-cognition deficit.
On paper, NGF, retinal , migraines, seem prime canditates for targeted light therapy- all above the eye. How can we find out more on this?

It sounds like he's against an out of the box solution like this, but their peer reviewed research shows that it works on a range of issues. I'd love to go to Dr Beck's for my kids but it's financially unviable right now, whereas one vielight or similar device is achievable if you're using it on more than one person

This is one of the most eye-opening things I've come across lately. This and the videos you did on the light coverage of body panels. I'm a new subscriber having come across your YT channel about a week ago. Already, due to you, I've bought a MitoPro+ panel which is on its way to me as we speak. I was tossing up between this and Platinum BIOMAX. The reason I went with Mito in the end was that I want this primarily for skincare (anti-aging), and Mito had 50% of its leds in 630nm and 830nm (the standard wavelengths used by skincare companies) while Platinum only had 15%. Thank you for the wealth of knowledge you share with us.

I wondered why using a frequency device on my side gave me such good results with my memory which is in my head. Must be the gut brain connection. After watching this video I may just stop using devices on my head and focus on my right side instead. I no longer have the device I used in the past. But I'm experimenting with red light on the same area of my side to see what effect it may have on my memory.

I guess if you have been using the panels for over 6 years and been standing close to them, face and head too, without any really negative effects thus far that's reassuring! what is the amount of time you usually use them for?

    • @AlexFergusdotcom
      @AlexFergusdotcom  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Yeah agreed. I'll paste my detailed response to this question below.
I use my panels fro about 5-10mins at about 4-6 inches away.
Hey, yeah so Dr Beck is pointing out how powerful that PBM is on the brain. My understanding is that it can over-excite or over-energise the brain and if there are areas that don't need this extra energy then one could run into issues. Of course if there are no underlying issues, or severe imbalances then it shouldn't be a problem (as is the case for most people using RLT products - myself included). He says one way to know for sure is to go out and do a QEEG scan before treating the brain.
I guess an analogy here is you should go to the GP and do some blood tests/heart scans before starting out on a strenuous workout regime. Sure most people could skip this and be totally fine, but there are a few people who could run into serious issues.
Obviously Dr Beck works with patients who do have some serious brain disorders, and he understands how powerful this light can be - used in the correct way it can have profound benefits, but like any power there is risk. He understands those risks.
As for Laser vs LEDs - I need to get more clarity on this - but it's my understanding that lasers are putting out a much more focused beam of light, so in turn we are going to see a concentrated amount of light - in one wavelength - hitting one particular spot. LEDs put out a range of wavelengths (with one peak that is often listed as the wavelength emitted on a panel) and have a greater coverage area. So combining these things results in less energy on one particular spot. But I may be wrong with my understanding here.
And yeah he says avoid it above the eyes until you know it's safe to treat.
But I should also point out - he is referring to high powered lasers that are applied directly on the skull.
Typically consumers are using LEDs at a distance - say 3-6 inches. So a lot of this light is not going to penetrate the skull anyway and may even be reflected off.
I do know a lot of people have been using RLT panels on their face/head for years and I'm yet to hear of any damage. BUT it could happen, and if you were the one that had some negative impact you would be wondering why wasn't I told about this etc.
I will reach out to Dr Beck and see if he can chip in with his comments :)

It would be nice to know what issues could be faced by overtreating an area of the brain. So far I've only heard of diminishing returns and not heard anything suggesting damage. Also would be nice to know about how to reduce the risk, I think he mentioned antioxidants.
My interpretation is that he's rightly proud of his work and that his concern doesn't necessarily apply to led panels.

I have done a EEG with a specialist. They want to do 10 to 20 sessions with the neuradiant 1070 at 10hz to fix the DMN due to TBI. I can’t afford the sessions but I was thinking of saving up for a Vielight alpha. But after watching this I’m not sure if they’re safe. You have since done recent videos and look to endorse Vielight and Dr Lim who says they are safe. Have you received more info after this video to suggest that Vielights are safe even if they are not targeted like recommended in this video?

How has this interview influenced your approach to the therapies you frequently employ and test, particularly those targeting the jawline, which is in close proximity to the brain? Am I correct in understanding that LED therapy and laser treatment are distinct enough to warrant the latter as a safer option, potentially bypassing the need for extensive checkups? I've been immersing myself in your content lately, and initially, I was set on trying a panel from the Biomax series. However, considering the smaller size and shorter treatment time due to intensity, I'm now torn between that and the Chroma Ironforge. Could you offer some guidance to help me decide?

Dr Beck has said that my son’s last few QEEG scans haven’t shown any seizure activity, so that is positive. Recent research by Henderson and colleagues shows that red light whether NIR or laser has a limited ability to penetrate the skull with only about 5% getting through. But they also found that applying the light elsewhere, for example on the hand or arm had a measurable effect in the brain on the frontal, occipital and global areas. So far the mechanism is unknown as is whether different wavelengths have different effects though normal 650.850 red/NIR seems to be as effective as 1400 nm laser light. This puts into question whether whole body treatment is necessary or desirable since too much will stimulate cytokines that can lead to auto immune responses. Protons are positive charged ions, in this case hydrogen ions that enter the cell due to the increased Redox potential caused by the production of more negative charges electrons by the chromophore. It is the flow of hydrogen ions into the cell that drives the process that converts ADP back to ATP.

Hi Alex, 10 months ago, hot oil splashed on my eye and burned off 30% of my cornea. I had just purchased a Lyma laser at the time (for anti-aging), so hoping to heal the eye faster, I used the Lyma laser on my eye. I closed my eye and placed the laser directly on the eyelid for 10-15 minutes twice a day. Three days later, the cornea was completely healed (went from basically not being able to see anything immediately post-accident to regaining normal vision). I attributed the quick healing to the laser and was very pleased. However, this interview has made me realise I may have caused damage to my brain. It did not occur to me that a laser on the eye could penetrate through to the brain! Is this something I should be worried about? I am not aware of any changes in
my brain function apart from maybe a deterioration in memory, but I'm 48, so this could just be old age? Do I need to go see a doctor?? I would really appreciate your reply. Thank you.

Basically, we do not know enough about the consequences of red light dosage on penetrating the head, face, and brain so the precautionary principle of avoiding exposure appears to apply, so therefor STOP using red light therapy on your face or hair to avoid risk.

This is gobsmacking though, how many of us have been using Redlight and NIR on our faces and heads without goggles because SO MANY
professionals for years have bang on about how amazing it is for face, hair growth even eye health and brain. Then now the guys basically saying use with caution and he wouldn't recommend. Concerning

Alex always has a measured approach and response, plus he's a busy person -- I do not think he is delaying a response. I do think there is significant dissonance here from this interview with the claims made elsewhere that red light therapy is completely safe based on the preponderance of medical research. I think the interviewer indicates RLT appears safe on muscles, nerves, skin, and organs below the eyeline. It may even be safe above the eyeline, on the brain, but we just don't know. Dosage, power (peak energy delivered in a short time) and penetration likely matter. But... we don't know and it could possibly damage the brain. I think this creates an environment with increased skepticism towards RLT's claim of safe use and exact understanding of what research actually show compared to extrapolations from the research. It definitely adds confusion and a healthy measure of caution. I use the iRestore hair helmet since about 1 month ago after watching TH-cam reviews and reading available medical literature about the effect of RLT on hair regrowth, the scalp, and penetration effects. I will continue as my belief is that the dosage and penetration are safe, but perhaps I would not have purchased this expensive technology if I had watched this interview first. @@jayedwardsuk5984

We use $7000 medical grade laser near infrared/red light wands on dogs and horses. The devices have very specific protocols for use. Lasers have to be pulsed for the protocols to excite the penetrated area without adding too much energy. There the protocols are especially cautious about abdominal/gut area usage as well as the head. Seems like legs, joints, muscles are less worrisome than head, chest, and gut when using these higher powered devices that penetrate deeper than most LED type RLT devices.

@@mikahundin The majority of devices sold to the public are using the standard tested wavelengths of 640 & 880. Far to many variables and people contradicting one another for me atm. I also have a "medical" grade LED device with no laser included but with a pulse option for the use of LED, which I'm also skeptical about. Some swear by it some think it's BS and marketing gimmick. Not sure what or who to believe right now.

I'm also unsure about benefits from pulsing the LEDs. Lasers get pulsed because they can overheat depending on the laser, because they may deliver too much energy to the cells if not pulsed, and I've also heard that there is benefit of delivering photon energy, then pausing (even in nano seconds or milliseconds or however long) for the cell to recover and then pulse again... but that's all for lasers which deliver more concentrated energy. Not sure about the LEDs (also note that there are laser diodes or LEDs used and non-laser LEDs used... LED is light emitting diodes... so there is confusion when brands like Kineon claim they use LEDs and lasers when they really should be saying they use laser LEDs and non-laser LEDs) @@jayedwardsuk5984

Well. Too much history to be silent entirely... but it is not the "laser" but the light. The word "laser" is overused and abused. The light Frequency has to do with the LED used as the light source and has nothing to do with whether or not it is coming from a laser. This was an error historically since early attempts at PBM were with people who were testing out their new-fangled red light lasers years ago. It was the new toy shined on a rat. The penetration has to do with the frequency and as well the power of the light source, and the applications effectiveness with regard to the quantity of light lumens per centimeter squared; and that affects the time involved for how long or short the treatment value is... The laser as the one and only TOOL has to do more with the manufacturer's sales and marketing banter; since that is what they are selling so they sell it. If you sell lasers, then only lasers work. and the salesman is the source for this silliness. PBM has to do with the light frequency. Every frequency has a geometry and a physics of qualities. As well, nature reads the numbers and frequencies and generates a response from the Vital Life Force that is unmeasurable with physical instruments typically used in research work. Too often there are academic papers written for building strong relationships and always a lot of revenue, sacred toes and prestige at stake between the Grantee and the Grantor. Few take the time to go into this with any depth. But the overuse of it being of a science that has a laser specific value is dead wrong. It is all about the light and the frequency of light that comes from the LED that the Laser uses. Laser light is just coherent light or a focus beam. To use the laser with this PBM application you have to diffuse the light that is normally produced by the laser, or you are going to cut tissue and kill the cell. In effect, the tiny laser then becomes a projector or a lamp. As well, certain lasers are regulated by the FDA and so people can't just use them as they please. There is NO regulation for the use of LED's. A diffused redlight laser can be used for photopuncture, as well, shining on the meridians like that. The meridians also behave as waveguides for the Near Infrared light which will travel on their paths. And, yes the meridians are real, they have also been photographed. They are just very tiny like photons. What else? There is also a light body that is shaped by plasma or plasmic fields inside the body that are affected by the light. What happens when you shine the light on that? Well, typically the research for this is overlooked.
