    One of my best friends had to age out of the system. I met her when we were 21 and I won't go into too much detail, but she was living with a man much older than her and he was not good to her. She had been on the streets since she was 16 and had to do some pretty horrible stuff to keep a roof over her head. She was 10 when she was first put into the system. I swear the lack of vetting for foster parents is half the problem, these people should not be allowed to care for children. I really hope Johanna continues to be successful. Looking at the cause of all this could genuinely change our society as we know it, and for the better.

  • @donthegiese
    @donthegiese 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I see the comments and I see the statements, "oh those poor kids," and I am 44 and I am a foster child. The reason we adults still call ourselves foster kids, is because we never were allowed to be kids where we could know someone would be there for us. A place we call home, somewhere that feels safe and permanent. This is also what you haven't seen.

    Reading all the comments and seeing how so many people had no idea... Johanna, so grateful that you're doing what you're doing. There are so many teens out there who are forgotten by the system as soon as they turn 18. How do we ever plan on ridding society of this terrible cycle of homelessness, abuse and poverty when the majority of our citizens have absolutely no idea. I'll be sharing this talk far and wide. I wish I knew how to do more. Thank you again Johanna.
