Nice that they still make these. I have an old lamp like that, I don't use it much but I think the bulb in it is from the 90s and I've been worrying about when it finally poops out.
You can buy a screw in adapter to convert the large Mogul socket to a standard light socket but it doesn't support the 3 way function. I prefer to use the Mogul bulb because it's part of the cool factor. I use this lamp for just a little bit every day so I'm not worried about the electric usage. It throws out major light!
I have several of these mogul bulbs but I stopped using them on my mogul floor lamps after high lux medium LEDs started coming out for very cheap prices and all you need is an adapter which can be easily found online. Only downside is that you do lose the three-way functionality because I don’t think they yet make three-way LED bulbs. What I can say is that these bulbs throw out massive brightness at the highest setting but along with it comes very high heat.

Come to think of it, I've never really looked very hard because I don't have any lamps that use this large bulb, particularly in this day and age where everything is going to LED to save some kilowatt hours. The only mogul base bulb I have is a Hang a light that uses a 400 watt pulse start metal halide, on construction sites as a sub contractor. Even those are being replaced with LED lights,which, personally that's all I use around the house. It would be neat if they made a mogul base 3 way LED 100-200-300 Equivalent.

That's a good alternative. I don't use the lamp much, maybe a half hour at night and especially in the winter so the extra heat there is a plus.
