    Why do we have to prune baby little lemon tree?

    • @HowtodoChannelWORLD
      @HowtodoChannelWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi Rifat Sultana! First of all you should prune the tree to give more strength to the remaining branches and leaves. Then when you prune it, if possible, do it in a way that favors the shape you want the tree to have as it continues to grow. But be carefull not to exagerate on the pruning. For young lemon trees the pruning should be minimal as I show in this video. Nice question! Thanks!

    I have a lemon tree that is shooting up in the center. I pruned it. And now it has 2 stalls running up. The 2 other stalks on each side are catching up but not as much. Is it ok to prune it again 2 months later? My tree is probably 7 months old

    how long does it take for new leaves to start growing? I pruned my young citrus tree and its been a while. My other citrus trees starts showing signs of new leaves and branches in just 2 - 3 days after pruning. I live in the equator so mostly sunshine with heavy rainfall.

  • @husch05
    @husch05 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Be careful when you want to grow your tree in height! It might get top-heavy due to the lack of side shoots that are not thickening up the main trunk. I would advise you to grow some sacrificial shoots that are just there to thicken up the main trunk. When you are satisfied with the thickness then you can just cut these shoots off. If that shoot gets too vigorous, then you can trim it.

    • @HowtodoChannelWORLD
      @HowtodoChannelWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kylees, I recomend putting a stick parallel to the main trunk and then tie the trunk to the stick for it to get in an upright straight position. At the same time position the tree in a way that it catches sun only on the oposite side from which it tends to fall. In a few months it will likely solve the problem. I had a similar problem solved this way.

    Hi. Will lemon from seed produce fruit? Or do we need to graft when it mature?

    • @husch05
      @husch05 ปีที่แล้ว

      They can, but it takes ages (5-10 years minimum) for them to do so. If you just want the fruit then just get a grafted tree from a nursery.

    I have accidentally grown lemon plants from discarded seeds in my money plant pot.. I have 15 plants and 6 are a good 4 inches tall .. I transferred them into separate pots .. so far so good.. roots are very long and strong.. now the main question is , will they grow to an adult plant ?

    • @HowtodoChannelWORLD

      Hi there, of you dont want to prune the lemon tree there is no problem! As I said the pruning will help making the branches or trunk stronger and will help you shape it as it grows if you want to.

    • @HowtodoChannelWORLD
      @HowtodoChannelWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi qtbeauty95! I would preffer cutting a leaf because it is less invasive. Usully whent you cut a leave a small branch or leaf starts forming.

      You would need to cut/trim the stem to encourage branching, cutting off a leaf doesn’t do anything for that

    Can you show progress or benefit of pruning ? That will be more helpful

    • @HowtodoChannelWORLD
      @HowtodoChannelWORLD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Prabhu Desai! Yes I can make a video of the progress. After the spring and summer, after it has more growth, I can show the progress. Unfortunately because of over watering, 1 lemon tree didn´t make it threw the winter. It is very important not to overwater the young lemon trees because it rottens the roots. In the winter never water it more then 1 time a week and be very contained in the ammount of water you put.

      Hi Karenbytherideau! I dont understand your question. Can you explain?

    • @karenbytherideau
      @karenbytherideau 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HowtodoChannelWORLD Thank you for following up. My lemon tree is just a straight single stock- just over 2 feet tall. I really want it to have branches like you have so near the bottom of the stock like your example, but perhaps this is not possible?

    • @HowtodoChannelWORLD
      @HowtodoChannelWORLD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am nor aware of a natural way to make branches grow near the bottom of the stock. What I know is that if leaves appear on the bottom, if you cut them, you stimulate growth of a branch in that same place. Other thing I have noticed is that seeds from different kinds of lemons produces lemon trees with different shapes, appearance and branch distribution (at least when they are small plants), so you can try to germinate lemon seeds from diferent lemons, and surely you will have different shape on the plants. Hope this helped. Thanks for your question!
