    That trucker's hitch that stayed taut by itself when you released it rocked my bushcraft world!

    • @BudgetGunsandGearReviews
      @BudgetGunsandGearReviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      No Kidding! I use a trucker's hitch all the time, but I never knew about taking that extra wrap to make it stay put. That's ABSOLUTELY going in my toolbox!

      I like this trick too, but it works better with some cordage than others. Try it, though, to be sure. It is neat.

      Yep. Learned this ridgeline system from Corporals Corner, been using it for years, and now I’m STOKED about not losing tension while pinching the cords together to finish the line. Awesome!!

    You can take this a step further by pre-threading the line through the tarp so the whole assembly is ready to go up quickly. This is what I do for my search and rescue super shelter.

    You’re still killing it, Dave! I’ve switched to your style of ridge line setup, and I like it. Funny enough, I just did a video on this where I carved a toggle and tied it to the bowline so it’s always there, ready to roll. I learned some great stuff just in this video, as well, like not wrapping my Hank too tightly, and that gear hanger with a running bowline and toggle in the marlinspike hitch is golden. I appreciate all you and your crew do bringing us this knowledge. Take care.

  • @CloneDaddy
    @CloneDaddy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been using an evenk hitch and a truckers hitch for years, and in all the many, many videos I have since watched, the truckers hitch with the rolling hitch has never come up before.
    It's not difficult to secure the knot before finishing it, but the rolling hitch will make it so much simpler. This is why I love this community, even after years there are always opportunities like this to further refine what already works for you.
    Thank you Mr. Canterbury.
    p.s. Marlin (like the fish) and bowline are pronounced the same. No "line" in either.

    Thanks for the knowledge Dave. I'm planning to take a trip to the US to join your classes in a row, to take advantage of the trip cost and make all of them at once. But this will take some time to get things straight and the money for it. Til that, I'll enjoy your YT channel!

  • @dkompolt1234
    @dkompolt1234 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love the rolling half hitch + trucker's hitch combo, that's very slick. My usual setup is a siberian hitch (with a toggle for long term or extra security), and a taut line hitch on the other side. Fast and secure enough. I still like the siberian hitch but I'll have to give the rolling half hitch + trucker's hitch a try for the other side.

  • @J_C_Firelocks
    @J_C_Firelocks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's a great system. I use the figure 8 to roll mine up and I learned the prusik knots from one of your videos years ago. The added toggle on the bowline and the rolling hitch are great ideas. I'll try those out. Thanks Dave!

    I made one similar a while back and I just use the same $1 orange aluminum stakes from Walmart that I use for my hammock tarp. I just keep 5 of them, 1 for the bowline end, 2 for toggles and 2 for the ground tarp corners. very useful setup and really quick.
