“The romance in it is f*cked up when you think about it” which is why I DONT think about it. Ever. No thoughts, head empty, just Paul Rudd and Alicia Silverstone being adorable
Yea it’s kinda weird but it doesn’t matter since their parents are divorced 🤷🏽♀️ plus the only reason Paul Rudd’s character would still come over was bc of her, not her dad lol
Penelope finally getting the recognition it deserves!! I read the book when I was a kid and then watched the movie, I loved both so so much! It's such a nice fairy tale!
i still don't understand why clueless didn't have the original emma backstory for josh. i think cher could have easily had an older sister, and it would be far less weird for josh to be that sister's husband's younger brother. i guess it would raise a question of why josh didn't go live with his older brother, but they could find a work around that as well. josh could still want to hide from his mom, and knowing that she would definitely search for him at his brother's house, he tries his luck with his extended family. mr horowitz seems like the type of man who would let his son-in-law's brother stay over for a bit. or something, idk! point is, i feel like they could find a way to make it work instead of making them step siblings, even if it is just in name.
She's the Man in your top tier cracks me up, not because it's a bad movie (it's pretty fun!), but I was a background performer/extra in that movie for my first ever job as a teen so I cannot think of it objectively. 10 out of 10 would recommend working on a teen rom com film set as a paid gig.
Where is My Best Friend's Wedding?? That movie is *chef's kiss* !! I love that she doesn't end up with the guy but it's still a happy ending. Easily top 5.
I join in the chorus of thanking you for the Leap Year shout-out! One of my faves, along with When Harry Met Sally and, of course, While You Were Sleeping, which is my go-to Christmas movie. Bill Pullman rarely plays the romantic hero, and in this one, he still seems like an unlikely one, but the build of the friendship and comfort and affection between them, and the fun they have together (so much funny!) really makes it my #1 romantic comedy. Plus, Sandra Bullock is just the romcom master. The scene where they're trying to walk along the ice, or when he announces her pregnancy, or when her neighbor is in the closet trying on her shoes... I don't know. So many many romcoms don't do as great a job of actually building the relationship between the characters and making it believable when they fall in love. While You Were Sleeping, like When Harry Met Sally, nails it.
okay, for the fans of when harry met sally and love, rosi: there is another film with the same premise that ppl are sleeping on for some reason, and it came out a couple years before love, rosie actually and it was SO GOOD!! it's called "One Day" and it stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. i love it so much. i actually much prefer it to love, rosie. love, rosie didn't really do it for me, but one day... one day definitely did [be ready to cry though]
Curious if you've ever seen Definitely Maybe, that's one of my favorites and it's a unique premise, Ryan Reynolds talking with his daughter about how he and her mother got together, at a time in his life when there were three compelling women in his orbit. I grew up watching Love Actually with my mom (I'd cover my eyes during the raunchy bits!) so for me it's like, not even a movie that I think about deeply, it's this association of watching it with my mom. As an adult I know most of the relationships are very messed up and not ok, but like, shrug?
Yaas, Definitely, maybe is the best, I love it sm. Love, Rosie and The wedding singer are pretty sweet too and I absolutely love When Harry met Sally and Palm springs. 🥰
I watched "The Proposal" ages ago and never rewatched it since then but I still remember the scenes vividly. I enjoyed it that much. Also at that time, I didn't even know the actors' names, The movie is just aired one evening and I watched it.
Leap year is THE ROM-COM!!!!!! Finally the attention it deserves!!! But also, how can ANYONE forget about Letters to Juliet, it's so beautiful wtf I love that movie
I seriously appreciate this video! Every time I am trying to decide if I want to watch that romcom that I haven’t seen yet, I always come to this video. Thank you!
OMG, I love "While you were sleeping" so bad! And I rewatch it every Christmas as well! 👏🥰 I thought I was the only one, because most people don't really like this movie and I've started to think, maybe I'm weird to find the movie so freaking hilarious 😂
I agree with most of them but would also recommend What If? with Daniel Radcliffe and The Pretty One with Zoey Kazan, (she's in What If too). And this hallmark one called How to Fall in Love, which is super cute.
Girl, you forgot Lake House, Wimbledon, Sleeping with other People, Fever Pitch,, Mr. Wonderful, Me before You, Little Manhattan, Serendipity etc...you need a part 2!
OMG A FELLOW PENELOPE ENJOYER THANK YOU SO MUCH!! IM NOT ALONE 😭 It's LITERALLY been one of my faves for so long and people either look at me funny when I say it or have never heard of it. It is EXTREMELY underrated. It's eclectic and bubbly and sweet. It's so unique.
see the thing with Last Christmas is I knew what I was getting going in, especially because it essentially follows the lyrics of the song. Plus it made me sob a river so I love that movie. But if you expected just like a fun Christmas romcom and such I can understand why you wouldn't love it.
I hated it. Not so much because I thought it was bad in it's right, but because it reminded me of better movies. It came across as someone trying to do a Richard Curtis movie without the artistry, and the immigration/racism subplot felt really poorly handled. I'd much rather watch Truly Madly Deeply, Just Like Heaven or About Time.
Lmao, the crushing defeat of seeing you put Moonstruck in bottom tier, to the euphoric high of seeing Mamma Mia go DIRECTLY to top tier - what an emotional rollercoaster 😂 Excellent video 👍it's easy to see how much effort went in to making it :3
Notting Hill is a “reserved” comedy and I truly do get the rating. But as far as reserved goes, I love rewatching “Four weddings and a funeral”, but mostly for the “com” part.
It’s never not a good time to watch While You We’re Sleeping… classic all year long! Also… I feel the same way about Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and Cameron Diaz!
Omg....finally someone calling out those famous rom-coms and saying that they weren't great....I totally agree with you...whenever I see the top 10 list of all time famous rom-com movies these films always pop up and honestly I just don't like them 🙃 I agree with 90% of your movie category bt 1 movie that I love is letters to juliet....and I know it's not a famous movie or not that great bt I just don't know why bt I just love it 😍
You added some movies to my list! ❤️ Great video. If you've never seen Sleeping With Other People or Can You Keep A Secret, those are good too from what I remember.
were is Ella Enchanted? My Best Friend's Wedding? the Family Stone? Because I said so? It's complicated? What If? What happens in Vegas? The Wedding Date? The Wedding Planner? Amelie!!!! Wish I would have seen you rank these. Loved that you included Penelope. That kiss... James McAvoy.... Need you say more! I would also include more oldies like GroundHog day, As Good as it Gets, The Truth About Cats and Dogs (another underrated). Found very few I haven't seen, but you peeked my interest.
She's all that is my comfort movie ughhh I love it Also, I watched 27 dresses because of this video and omg are you kidding me 😭 Such a wonderful movie
How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days is "it's a no from me" all the way. I was bored 😴 Also, Kate Winslet in the Holiday has the BEST relationship with the old man next door. Priceless.
Plus One is in fact underrated and it also made me cry but I also love how she enjoyed it despite saying she’s not a fan of the whole friends to lovers trope lol
I have been on a Rom Com binge lately and I'm just gonna make a few recommendations. Top Tier: Man Up & The Proposal tied at the top. Wall.e, The Duff, The Valet, Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, Moonshot, A Million Ways To Die In The West, Long shot, I Love You Beth Cooper and Blended.
I very much recommend you to see Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, if you have not seen it. It may be more of a sci fi drama romcom. But in my opinion it is one of the most romantic movies. The story is very fictional, but the chemistry and relationship is very realistic. :)
I'm a sucker for romcoms and there were a few on here that I haven't seen so I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the recommendations. I was going to recommend that you watch Man Up since I thought you'd never heard of it because most people I ask haven't, then I saw it on your list!! Also I love While You Were Sleeping and I watch it around every Christmas and New Years time.
Wow, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days is literally in the bottom of all the movies I've ever seen, it's in my I will never get that time back. It got a solid 0% from me. I enjoyed runaway bride - but it's frankly terrible on rewatch, and my fair lady is a complicated story whether it's Audrey Hepburn or Julia Roberts. Pretty in Pink only stands up in nostalgia, in rewatch it turns completely cringe. I loved the 1996 Twelfth Night, Imogen Stubbs and Toby Stephens have amazing chemistry. My absolute favorite rom-com will always be Much Ado about Nothing. It is my idea of perfection, thing is the one with Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh suffers his conceit. Emma Thompson can kill it, and she just falls apart. But it's still the best. No one can beat Shakespeare in Rom coms, especially if you take the time to understand what's being said. If you can find it, definitely watch the 1935 version of Midsummer's Nights Dream, Mickey Rooney can never be surpassed as Puck. I've got to admit, Penelope and While You Were Sleeping are pretty high up there for me.
Much Ado About Nothing is one of my all time favorites, too (for the Benedict and Beatrice enemies to lovers romance, rather than for Claudio and Hero). The chemistry and humor between Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson was 👌. (This was filmed while they were still married). I also love "While You Were Sleeping", and would happily rewatch it every year.
@@layalibintmona I think I would love to meet the person who loves Much Ado About Nothing for Claudio and Hero. I love the movie, but I did an essay on the different movie versions of it for a college essay and came to the strong realization that Kenneth Branagh was holding Emma Thompson back. If you see enough of them you'll see how much Beatrice can really shine, and that she doesn't in that movie, I think was Branagh's fault. I have no question that Emma Thompson was capable of the performance given the right direction. Remove her from Kenneth Branagh and she's glorious.
Oooooo what a great video topic. As a rom com lover I’m very much looking forward to seeing what someone else enjoys. Lol, your comment on Moonstruck is relatable. I’ve watched it many times, but I also can’t remember what happens despite all those viewings 😅
This was such a fun ranking - I think my one disagreement is with The Holiday - maybe that’s just because I relate to Iris’ (Kate winslet) character SO freaking much, and I just LOVE her and Jack Black’s characters and relationships - friends and/ to lovers. I personally LOVE this movie and take so much inspiration from it - I would rate it top tier - but based on everything else, I feel like I can take some pretty solid recommendations from you - thank you so much!! Hope anyone reading this has a greasy day/ night :)
This was fun to watch. Thanks for posting. I would only disagree about “Moonstruck”. It’s about 2 messed up people that have pulled away from the world and from life. They not only are attracted to each other, they bring each other back to life. Great supporting cast too.
While I disagree with some placements, I don’t have huge disagreements. The only top tier that I disagree with is “he is just not that into you” for the same reasons “something borrowed” is hated. At least it is more entertaining. I am just so happy someone is talking about Leap Year. That is one of my favorite rom coms ever. Have a huge crush on Matthew Goode and he and Amy Adams had amazing chemistry together. I agree that while it was trope heavy, they didn’t feel that way. Each one made sense at each moment they encountered. I feel it is underrated and it shouldn’t be.
I discovered your channel recently and have been binge watching so many of your videos. I severely disagree with quite a few rankings here 😭 It’s alright, though, still think the content is hilarious and super enjoyable. Maybe do another ranking like this but now with strictly romance or romantic drama movies? It would be great! Or maybe only romantic period movies?
“I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her” always bothered me because this is a grown woman talking to a grown man. It just sounds so silly to me 🤣🤣🤣
I love Leap Year but now I skip the entire wedding scene. Amy Adam’s character has already lived enough of the required rom com suffering at that point and they’ve both had great character growth. The wedding does nothing to advance either character and takes the whole movie down a notch too late in the film.
If you haven’t seen Austenland, I recommend! It’s one of my go-to feel-good movies; along with While You Were Sleeping, Man Up, and Leap Year!! 🫶 I thoroughly enjoyed this video and found a couple movies to watch that I haven’t seen.
If you would twist my arm and asked me to pick one for eternity, that would be 10 Things I Hate About You. I mean, enemies to lovers, Shakespeare, Julia Styles sassiness forever. She is my spirit animal
I was so nervous as When Harry Met Sally was coming up because that is MY all time favorite romcom and then those words left your mouth and I couldn't even say I was surprised as you continue to have the most immaculate taste 👌 I just adore that movie (but also I fucking hate it because for 90 minutes it convinces me that I am wildly, madly attracted to Billy Crystal...the funny men always get me)
I never leave comments, like.. ever - but I found your channel when I was looking for videos roasting Netflix's new Persuasion adaptation and I wanted to say I enjoyed it immensely and have enjoyed every video I've watched since. P.S. I personally think the 1995 Persuasion is better only because I can't stand that for some reason in the 2007 version Anne Elliot is capable of diagnosing and resetting a child's dislocated collarbone.
I feel like Josh was barely even Cher’s stepbrother in the movie. It was easy to not think about because the parents were divorced. Also the age gap was only 2 years but felt bigger because he was in college, but he was only a freshman.
Okay I’m on minute 28:12 and I’m SO EXCITED I’m seeing Leap Year 😩 I love that movie 🙌. I’m kinda nervous about what you think about it lol ok here we go
I will never stop talking about Leap Year. It’ll always be my comfort romcom. It doesn’t try too hard to be relatable-just an absurd story about how two people meet. Finally a romcom that’s not set in New York 🤌
I've just come across your channel and have been dipping in and out. A couple of days ago some Angus Thongs and and Perfect Snogging posts came across my Tumbr dash. I was shocked to realise it was 14 years old. I love this movie so much, it's just that perfect balance of sweet, funny, embarrassing and utterly adorkable. I think I listened to that soundtrack on my way to work for the better part of a year. I also wanted to ask why you didn't include Clueless in your Emma adaption video. Was it because it was a modern setting?
i saw penelope 1 (one) time on tv PARTIALLY when i was 13 or so and until this day i thought that the movie about pig-nosed girl staring at james mcavoy through the window was my teen fever dream... but it is real???? omg
I love your list. That being said, when it comes to "Moonstruck" I do PERSONALLY think that it`s an amazing AMAZING movie(top tier film)...but you do need to be older to really get it.Because it`s not just about romance,or rather it`s barely about it.It`s mostly about generational differences, changing of romance through them, women`s roles in the USA vs Europe in general(I come from Eastern Europe and Moonstruck reminds me of tales my aunts and mom would tell me).The idea about the moon being that one thing that`s,after a long day constant and reliable, happy in the life of the WHOLE family is,to me,the ultimate romantic notion. Not only that, but I remember so many scenes from this movie because they were actually told to me in real life and situations that happened in my family were reflected in this movie. As a romance alone,it`s okay, but as a commentary on romance, expectations and generational gap it`s incredible.I saw it for the first time in my mid twenties and loved it.. Love you, btw, girl!
@@melik5455 I looove Mamma Mia,but for me it’s one of those rare cases where they made it better,in my opinion.I watched it 3 times in the cinema when it came out.😅
I’m with you on Leap Year. There is also a special place in my heart for Music and Lyrics. I grew up watching it with my mom, she used to play the soundtrack, it’s just comfort nostalgia for me.
Two recommendations not on your list: Isy and Ossi (biscuit-buttering level, I promise, and somehow just sooo German. First kissing scene is unbelievable, penetrates like infrared). And: One Small Hitch (one of the cuter friends to lovers trope I’ve seen, might not be quite Plus-One-Level, but comparable).
Pretty Woman is a Great movie! Way better than How to lose a guy in 10 days. Other than that I guess I can live with this list although I would personally switch some things up.
i agreed with everything until the holiday. then you won me back with while you were sleeping edit: oh god i had to turn off the video after your ranking of you've got mail and sleepless in Seattle. i just cant I'm sorry!
Runaway Bride is a WILD movie to be honest, I mean she’s suppose to get married to someone else & once that falls through…Richard Gere is like well, since we’re in love now, let’s do it - and she still runs 😂😂😂 I always felt like the entire movie was odd.
Forces of Nature with Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock. Kind of a near-romcom. The Sarah McLachlan song Fear at the end is so good. Holy crap live version of that song: th-cam.com/video/7I7uc-aNVPc/w-d-xo.html (These names are hard to spell!)
shakespeare's greatest achievement was inspiring 3 god tier romcoms
also i'm so so glad someone else doesn't get love actually!! emma thompson getting cheated on is not my idea of a cute romantic holiday movie...
@@leslievanhouten maybe ‘Get Over It’? Underrated IMO, definitely worth a watch!

I feel personally attacked by the placements of Julia Roberts on this list I never experienced this level of disrespect
Agreed! She didn't even mention my best friend's wedding. Drew Barrymore also done bad .
finally leap year is getting the appreciation it deserves all the good tropes and beautiful scenery also amy adams my beloved 😩😩😩
in my opinion “the wedding date” is the superior rom-com. the rom, the com, are both immaculate. also the soundtrack slaps.
I love the dance scene to the song Sway. 😘👌
@@cat_96 that movie started a michael bublé obsession for me tbh
@@AngelAngel-we7pl I loved that song, but didn't know it was him until years later. I knew him mostly for his song Haven't Met You Yet.

I’m surprised that You’ve Got Mail wasn’t ranked higher, being it’s a P&P adaptation like Bridget Jones’ Diary.
Girl, I love you, but how young are you?
The shade on Richard Gere is too much for my old soul.
That was SAVAGE
Oh man I was so happy to see Man Up on here! I haven’t met anyone else who has seen it and I think it’s so cute and funny
It took me forever to watch it on Netflix, because the description didn't do it justice.

I think the reason it’s not on here is because it’s more of a romance drama instead of comedy. But indeed, such a lovely film.
The only one I vehemently disagree with is Warm Bodies. It's cute! The book, of course, is better, but other than that it's a cool monster romance!
I love this movie! I think about it often and sometimes will just pop it on. Hoult and Palmer are so great.

You’re wrong about Notting Hill. That film is more than that one line 😂
I was praying you would not trash my favorite romcom of alllllll time! I have watch every Christmas!
This was fun to watch. Thanks for posting. I would only disagree about “Moonstruck”. It’s about 2 messed up people that have pulled away from the world and from life. They not only are attracted to each other, they bring each other back to life. Great supporting cast too.
PERFECT Valentine’s Day upload. Totally made my day thank you :) ❤️
While I disagree with some placements, I don’t have huge disagreements.
The Runaway Bride makes me sad but 'While you were sleeping" also watch every Christmas, it's the best!!!
Never seen so many opinions I disagree with lol. (Except the rant about Last Christmas, which was totally deserved!) Still love your videos though!
I personally love 'The Prince & Me'.
It just sounds so silly to me 🤣🤣🤣
The movie is dull, no doubt 😂 but that line in context with the movie is cuz she’s famous. That was the issue in their relationship
finally someone recognizes the work of art that is leap year
Matthew Goode is the most delicious man on this list. Thank you for giving leap year love that movie is everything!!!!!!
@@FullofLit Leap Year is a MASTERPIECE ❤️ Its definitely not talked about enough and it’s an incredible movie. Also Chasing Liberty is also amazing..
I love Leap Year but now I skip the entire wedding scene. Amy Adam’s character has already lived enough of the required rom com suffering at that point and they’ve both had great character growth. The wedding does nothing to advance either character and takes the whole movie down a notch too late in the film.
Letters to Juliet-Vanessa Redgrave’s character is the one that wrote that letter when she was young. Not Franco Nero’s younger self.
2 more rom coms to try if you haven't seen them....Fools Gold and Dan in Real life. Both in my top three romcoms, with, of course, Leap Year!
Palm springs should be here
I can’t believe you didn’t have Keeping The Faith on here! You should def watch.
If you haven’t seen Austenland, I recommend! It’s one of my go-to feel-good movies; along with While You Were Sleeping, Man Up, and Leap Year!! 🫶
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and found a couple movies to watch that I haven’t seen.
If you would twist my arm and asked me to pick one for eternity, that would be 10 Things I Hate About You. I mean, enemies to lovers, Shakespeare, Julia Styles sassiness forever. She is my spirit animal
I agree with pretty much everything except for Set It UP! It is nowhere near mid, truly an S tier.
I was so nervous as When Harry Met Sally was coming up because that is MY all time favorite romcom and then those words left your mouth and I couldn't even say I was surprised as you continue to have the most immaculate taste 👌 I just adore that movie (but also I fucking hate it because for 90 minutes it convinces me that I am wildly, madly attracted to Billy Crystal...the funny men always get me)
Also My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Bridget Jones are two of my faves since I was young.
I totally agree about Penelope...I loved it...
oooh i love Penelope! A truly underrated gem
THANK YOU - I will NEVER get the Love, Actually hype.
I don’t consider Easy A a romcom but one of the funniest movies to date for sure!
the way i was searching for Crush in the little film posters as i watched it 2 years later lol
Leap Year is one of my favesssss haha
I feel like Josh was barely even Cher’s stepbrother in the movie. It was easy to not think about because the parents were divorced. Also the age gap was only 2 years but felt bigger because he was in college, but he was only a freshman.
Okay I’m on minute 28:12 and I’m SO EXCITED I’m seeing Leap Year 😩 I love that movie 🙌. I’m kinda nervous about what you think about it lol ok here we go
FUCK YES I’M IN THE BATHROOM SCREAMING THAT YOU PUT IT AT THE TOP. HELL. YES.
I will never stop talking about Leap Year. It’ll always be my comfort romcom. It doesn’t try too hard to be relatable-just an absurd story about how two people meet. Finally a romcom that’s not set in New York 🤌
You made me think about movies I watched that I completely forgot about, like it's a boy girl thing 😂
I agree about moonstruck but mamma mia 2 didn't do it for me...maybe I should rewatch it.
@@melik5455 I looove Mamma Mia,but for me it’s one of those rare cases where they made it better,in my opinion.I watched it 3 times in the cinema when it came out.😅
you should watch The Shop Around the Corner! it inspired You’ve Got Mail - and it doesnt have Meg Ryan or Tom Hanks in it
I’m with you on Leap Year. There is also a special place in my heart for Music and Lyrics. I grew up watching it with my mom, she used to play the soundtrack, it’s just comfort nostalgia for me.
Interesting list, I’ve seen some but not all, so will look for these movies. Bridget Jones Diary, yes
Totally agree on Plus One. Such an underrated gem. Also, I too loathe Pretty in Pink and all 3 people leading it.
I’m surprised you didn’t add “me before you”, the notebook, a walk to remember or any Nicholas spark movies etc. All so sad and cute !
Pretty Woman is a Great movie! Way better than How to lose a guy in 10 days.
Other than that I guess I can live with this list although I would personally switch some things up.
My favorite movie is when Harry met Sally!
i agreed with everything until the holiday. then you won me back with while you were sleeping
edit: oh god i had to turn off the video after your ranking of you've got mail and sleepless in Seattle. i just cant I'm sorry!
Runaway Bride is a WILD movie to be honest, I mean she’s suppose to get married to someone else & once that falls through…Richard Gere is like well, since we’re in love now, let’s do it - and she still runs 😂😂😂 I always felt like the entire movie was odd.
I gasped at Leap Year. I gasped!
This is going to be the best way to end Valentine's Day for me😍sitting in bed, with a bar of chocolate, will get back with more comments as I watch😆
this's the first time i've seen someone else talk about it's a boy girl thing
Forces of Nature with Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock. Kind of a near-romcom. The Sarah McLachlan song Fear at the end is so good. Holy crap live version of that song: th-cam.com/video/7I7uc-aNVPc/w-d-xo.html (These names are hard to spell!)
