Russell Johnson described her in an interview as "a difficult person," I don't recall if he elaborated. There were also offscreen issues mentioned regarding some of the other cast. Still, the show succeeded for 3 seasons. There were only a handful of episodes that I liked, but I did like those very much.
She expected to be the star of the show and that’s why she was disappointed with the role when she found out bob Denver was Gillian and the real star which is understandable. I thought everybody on the show was great!

I always enjoyed watching Gilligan's Island while growing up in the 60s and while I can believe that there's going to be some issues with actors on some shows I also believe that there are those in the media who are going to look for any dirt or rumors about someone famous because dirty laundry sells. I'm more inclined to give Tina Louise, Dawn Wells, Bob Denver and the others on the show the benefit of the doubt if they claimed to have had a good relationship with one another. By the way, Tina was also in the movie "The Stepford Wives" with Catharine Ross.

It's a simple textbook formula they all used for TV shows back then, and many current TV shows are still written that way. That's why your ship's captain, chief science officer, and chief medical officer are always the three that beam down to the planet to investigate whatever in Star Trek, which would never happen IRL. And Beverly Hillbillies has more Jethro-centric episodes than for anyone else in the cast. For some it's a no-brainer that Gilligan's Island revolves around Gilligan, but watch a few episodes and notice how Gilligan gets the most camera time, followed by the Skipper, followed by the Professor, and from there everyone else is a recurring bit player. I can see why she would be annoyed with that, especially since she was promised a bigger role when she signed the contract to do the show.

Every workplace in any field has some difficulties. If the cast had experienced too much grief, I’m sure someone would have quit or been fired. I thought the show was good for what it was. It was a fantasy sitcom. Of course there was some overacting. It was intended to be over the top.
