UPVC lock out with key on inside - Can inside key be pushed out?

- If you have a UPVC type door with a multi-point lock with night latch function and you lock yourself out with the key left on the inside of the lock, you probably will not be able to operate the lock even with a spare key. This video explains why, and also what you may be able to do about it.

Saved our life!! Knocked the door, rattled, tried to turn the key at least 100 times. 5 mins later OPEN! Key inside was at around 20 degrees turned. Thanks man. Greetings from Madeira!

It just depends on your luck. If you’re inside key is near enough vertical maybe a bit of banging on the other one will align it just enough..
Awesome! I panicked when I realized that I'd left the key inside as shut the door for the school run this morning! Thank God I keep a spare key in my car and with the help of a stone o was able to dislodge the key on the inside and get myself back in. What a relief!!
Thanks for this guidance. Big panic last night when exactly this happened to my son’s lock. We watched this before my daughter had the inspired idea of using a litter grabber stick (any stick would have done I think). My son inserted it right through the letterbox then turned it to just tap the inside key which became vertical: et voilà! My daughter-in-law correctly commented that it could have tapped it more out of line but it didn’t.👍😀

Just want to add my heartfelt gratitude for this video! I left my key in the door this morning on the school run. Then had to rush to work and was obsessing all day about coordinating the locksmith. Saw this one video and it worked! Had to use a hammer but it worked and the lock still works. THANK YOU

Is there no way to modify the inside key to allow the lock to be operated from both sides?
How will you know if the keys are turned because I am trying to turn the handle too
Is there a way to disable the night latch feature? I have already spent 200 bucks for getting licked out of my house ..
So if you leave the inside key inserted and rotated by 60 degrees; does that prevent lock bumping?

If you're worried about lock bumping then you should buy a lock called the ERA Fortress its snap proof but also bump proof because it contains trap pins that will trap a bump key when bumping is used. Also it's a British made lock and has a 3* British standard kitemark
