Good video, good to know. I just bought a 5,1 and I will stick to Sonoma until the issues are solved. On my 2015 MBP with AMD graphics Sequoia runs actually smoother than Sonoma.
Hi Lance, while watching your latest video I see that you have the boot screen option on the 5,1 ... did you have to swap out to the non metal apple GPU? Reason for asking is that I am running Monteray with OCLP 2.02 using RX 850 GPU on my 5,1 and would like to update to Sonoma but having to swap out GPU’s is a real pain .... any advice would be extremely helpful... best wishes Mark
The bootscreen option is OCLP you should be able to update the OS because you have OCLP installed already, just create the usb installer for Sonoma using the OCLP app and no need to move Opencore from where you have it just download the OS and create USB installer. That being said I do have enabled GOP installed, which gives you the native Apple boot screen when you’re not using open core. If you want to install enableGOP watch my One More Thing video. It flashes your bootrom to give you the native boot loader, but it’s for use when your not using OCLP and is a good fall back if things go south because it gives you the apple boot screen with non Apple GPUs.
Hi Lance, thanks for the your reply and information I didn’t know having OCLP already installed gives you the boot screen option that’s good to know. Looking forward to your next video as always...best wishes Mark
Hello, a question do you know if it is possible to create a hard drive with several bootable partitions with different operating systems with Opencore, I explain to have Catalina, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia on the same disk and Boot and choose which system to install as well as it is normally done with a single operating system with Opencore but in this case have them all on the same disk thanks
Same to my 2015 MBP with the AMD R9 370. It never ran smoothly on Sonoma, lots of issues waking up again (black screen eg). But with Sequoia everything runs fine.
Lots of folks with network problems just google search it, as I said it works for some and not for others. Also, there are apps that just don’t work with it yet like da Vinci resolve but I will keep digging and hopefully Apple will come out with a fix could be a combination of my router, my Internet provider who knows
@@itoltd the rx6600xt and up only work with Monterey and OCLP or Martin Lo OC they do not work with any newer version of Mac OS due to Apple updating the drivers to have AVX2 instructions which the old Xeon processors don’t support. I know it sucks.
@@MacSoundSolutions Yep. I'm patiently waiting and hoping that OCLP patches Navi drivers. 'Till then, stuck on Monterey. But then, running Windows 11 on the old 5,1 works perfectly. Much cleaner hardware support than macOS with all of these patches.
Hi Lance!! I have a Mac Pro 5.1 with the Martin Lo OpenCore package installed with MacOS Monterey. How is performance different on a Mac Pro 5.1 with the Martin Lo OpenCore package installed, compared to OCLP with MacOS Sonoma installed? is it worth upgrading to OCLP with MacOS Sonoma? or should I stick with the Martin Lo Opencore package with MacOS Monterey? Thank You!!
I would stick with your setup as long as there are no apps that you need to upgrade to the later OS. Sonoma seems to run pretty well but I have not used it for my work as I moved to a 7,1. Sonoma runs really well on it. So if there are no apps you use that require Sonoma I would stay with Monterey. But one thing to consider is there are no more security updates for Monterey. Apple has now discontinued supporting it so if security is an issue that you’re concerned about maybe it’s time to update.
Lance, we have opposite issues. I can use Safari just fine on both of my 2010 5,1s. My issue on EVERY Mac I have on macOS Sequoia 15.1 including a 2023 MacBook Pro is that it won't recognize my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera (that I use for a webcam on the 5,1s and that worked perfectly before upgrading) on any machine. It connects via USB. What camera did you use for this video?
I usually use my iPhone but this was my Nikon to Blackmagic switcher which records directly to a hard drive. I’ve seen other people having issues with their WebCams.
i got a macbook pro 2016. used OCL to upgrade to sequoia and facetime, meseeges, airdrop airplay dont work at all, also appstore woont upgrade the app automatically
I appreciate your videos very much as I am a Mac music guy myself. I have an issue I can't seem to fix. I have a 5,1 with Big Sur running nicely, originally with the Martin Lo OC, but have changed over to OCLP. I have tried to move up the OS incrementally by installing Monterey but it hangs up as the OS is being installed from the USB stick. I get an alert that a firmware update was not installed. My system firmware is 9144.1.0.1.0. If I am not mistaken, the 9 prefix indicates OC is installed. In any case, I then get a popup to select my startup disk. It wants to reboot but does not offer the USB installer as an option. I believe it wants to automatically reboot from that USB stick. The process just stops and I have left it alone for hours and it does nothing. For three days I have been trying different things and it always stops on this step. One thing, on another drive that I am not booting from, there seems to be a Martin Lo OC that remains in an EFI folder. Perhaps that is creating the problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Your Martin install can be used to upgrade to Monterey you just need to do the config.plist edits. but if you want to switch you need to remove the MLOC install completely but first build the OCLP thumb drive and bless it by holding option on the next boot, after building OCLP with Mac is installer on the thumb drive shutdown remove the OCLP drive and do a multiple pram reset. Best to remove the Martin lo drive and start with a different one boot off thumb drive try install. Your firmware is up past Mojave so you should be ok, but it’s still showing the Martin lo is installed. Best to have a Mojave drive to fall back on for back up so you can always rebuild your open core thumb drive also depending on what GPU you have, etc..

Create a new container and install Catalina. That simple. You will always have a back up if you need to boot back into Mojave. Check your sample packs requirements and you can probably go all the way to Sonoma, depending how how old the plugins are. I have two containers, Monterey & Sonoma on a NVMe. OCLP is installed on both containers. Getting ready to add another container for Sequoia. I'm also stoked that I'm still running my Digi 003 black Lion rack with Sonoma.
@@steveowen9125isn’t the 003 FireWire? How’s it the driver works with Sonoma? Also you are installing OCLP in the EFI of the NVMe but you said in each container? Can you explain a bit more.
@@MacSoundSolutions Hi Lance. Yes firewire is still being recognized in Monterey and Sonoma. installed OCLP 1.50 within both containers of Monterey & Sonoma on my Samsung 970 plus on the third PCIe slot. I first had Monterey running Opencore. I then said what the heck. Create another container and did the whole OCLP process and downloaded Sonoma, then installed Sonoma on the empty container, so EFI in each container. The only frustration was more of getting my beloved Digi 003 black Lion Tweakhead modded rack to work, and install the Digi 003 driver. The only video that worked to install was junichiro youtube video, all the other videos did not work. So now I track with PT10 on Mt Lion, on a OWC Accelsior PCIe card, since that is the most responsive and solid setup for tracking bands, then I mix on Sonoma to take advantage of the new Waves V15 version.
Yes check out my new video th-cam.com/video/_R3ZebxVgng/w-d-xo.htmlsi=y05Q0y38ab3WKGtO
Im still running Ventura as its been solid
I don't know why thats happening to your install, but my Sequoia installed on my 2015 Macbook Air 11inch has been working fine no problem🤷

My 2015 also working fine
May i ask which GPU in your 6.1 Mac Pro ? I'm going to buy a Mac Pro but heartd that the D500 is hotter than D300.
I have the D500s and they do run warm but I use iStat to control the fans and keep them cool. But the 6,1 does generate a fare amount of heat.
Hi Lance, thanks for this video.
Which GPU are you using with your 5,1 Mac Pro and OCLP 2.0.2 Sonoma ?

I am not having any problems with sequoia on a m1pro or 2019 macpro
i got a macbook pro 2016. used OCL to upgrade to sequoia and facetime, meseeges, airdrop airplay dont work at all, also appstore woont upgrade the app automatically
Your Martin install can be used to upgrade to Monterey you just need to do the config.plist edits. but if you want to switch
you need to remove the MLOC install completely but first build the OCLP thumb drive and bless it by holding option on the next boot, after building OCLP with Mac is installer on the thumb drive shutdown remove the OCLP drive and do a multiple pram reset.
Hi Lance, I have an issue with my MAC PRO 5,1 running Sequoia 15.1 with OCLP 2.1.0. Hardware: 2 x 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 8 GB, 128 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, NVME Drive. I have an upgraded Broadcome Wi-Fi - BT card. The issues are the following: If I install OCLP boot loader, with the default HOST MODEL, when I reboot, the WIFI works, but the Mac freezes after a couple of minutes. If I manually select the Model as Mac Pro 5,1, the Mac will not freeze, but only Ethernet will work, the WIFI module is not recognised (Bluetooth Works). The Other issue I have, is that the USB webcam (I have tried various) will not work. I also have to had MIC and Cameras app permission manually via terminal commands (this was an old problem on previous MacOS versions, but it was resolved in Sonoma). Any ideas/ Solutions?
@@AntonelloSDato my wifi seems to be working ok although I did have to re pair my Bluetooth devices, maybe try a SMC reset unplug the computer and wait for 10 seconds or more then plug it back in. I will check again in the am.
I have MacPro6,1 in Late 2013 with Sequoia 15.0 and OpenCore 2.0.2. I do not use the beta version because it has crashed my Mac in the past and it needs newer drivers from OpenCore. That could be your problem. You can turn off beta updates and you will be fine. Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera they all work for me with no issues. Hope this helps... =)
@@pmNCC-1701 nope the reason I installed the beta was in hopes it would fix the problem with 15.0 public release but same thing, thanks for posting.
I have Sonoma on IMac27 mid 2010 (A1312). Intel Virtualization (VT-X) is not working. I can't get it working.
Was just comming here because my 5.1 won´t update from Mojave to Catalina(witch I need badly for my plugins and samplepacks, but does wants me to upgrade to Sequoia (for witch I don´t know what I will lose...) Great to see a new video, future music for me it seems, be good to know for when I overcome my first step to upgrade to Catalina...thx
After seeing the video, it gets to me I don´t get the whole OpenCore thing...bought it from MacSolutions pn a thumb-drive. Do I get it right I have to copy the thumb-drive files to the EFI partition of my SSD or NVME, or can I keep using it from the drive?
@@steveowen9125isn’t the 003 FireWire? How’s it the driver works with Sonoma? Also your are installing OCLP in the EFI of each container?
I just could not give up on my Digi003 quite yet.

Hello, please help me! I’m having issues with the installation of Sequoia using OpenCore Legacy Patcher on my unsupported Mac Pro (MacPro6,1). I prepared the USB drive with OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.0.2 and successfully installed Sequoia on my Mac Pro. The installation appeared to go smoothly, so I proceeded to install it on the internal drive and ran the root patcher. After restarting, everything seemed fine, but after the third restart the next day, regardless of whether I'm actively using the system or not, the mouse pointer turns into a spinning beach ball and eventually the Mac freezes. This occurs on subsequent restarts as well. Installing Sonoma I have the same problem.
That is odd. I would rebuild OC on the thumb drive andn bless it then rebuild the Sequoia installer onto the thumb drive if you can, if it boot off the thumbd drive without issue continue the install and when it goes into recovery menu reformat the internal Mac Pro drive GUID APFS and try re installing to the Mac Pro drive.. One thing I would recommend is don't log into icloud during the initial install I have found that this has been my Safari issue all along and Safari is now working.
i have updated to 15.2 beta with the new open core legacy. and what a mistake that was. sometimes the mac will just reboot by itself or when it goes to a screen saver and you need to work later it goes to a black screen with the mouse pointer and you must then force reboot. sometimes it say window serve not fouind..
i think i need to downgrade to a 15.1 or 14.7 sonoma
@@renierboucher1501 15.1 is stable, not a good idea to update past what OCLP apps Mac OS versions are available to download, that’s why I get it from them. A new beta is certainly living in the edge.

not alone. Could have to do with router or internet provider combo with Sequoia. Apple definitely changes some network stuff.
Can you downgrade Sequoia to Sonoma in a new Mac Mini M4?
Ive run sequoia on a 2017 imac 27" without any issues..fresh installon a different partition...Not that impressed with it as far as performance...its similiar to sonoma but I'd say sonoma is a bit snappier...Monterey is faster than either.
I know this is a long shot but what video cards do you have?

I have the 700’s no issues but for me the remote access using rust desk is slooooowwwww

I formated SSD Internal disk to see if can be recognised but no chance. I am using Mac Pro midi 2010 with OCLP, I have to keep swapping the graphics to be able to boot to EFI.
Simple to downgrade - that is if your usb adapter is recognised! Mine has stopped working- I think due to Sequoia. (I'm on a MacBook).
@@beckyb76563 which MacBook? Apple’s USB ports on MacBook can be flaky. You might want to just try a different USB drive or a clean SSD with nothing on it because opencore legacy patcher will reformat it and wipe it.
on my SSD Boot there is “ this disk has S.M.A.R.T errors, but I was able to install Mojave to this disk so I don’t know why I can’t install other macOs
you need to rebuild and install opencore a thumb drive and then build the installer, then when it reboots in recovery you may need to reformat the drive you want to put the new OS on. Mojave is not bootable with OCLP SO once you boot off the opencore installer you can install the OS on a new drive, if you want to install it on the Mojave drive you should reformat it first GUID APFS
My installation has 15.0.1 and the screen on my iMac 27 goes dark when watching TH-cam but the sound keeps running. This happens on all my browsers...Brave, Firefox, Safari. Pressing the start buttons sometimes restarts the screen, comes on again. I'm running a Quadro K1100 M 2GB, 32GB RAM and all Samsung SSDs, I'm also running Bootcamp with Win11 where none of this happens on any browser, so I guess it's a software/driver issue.
@@JoesephBidon sounds like it, I had issues with TH-cam as well but that was when Safari stopped working so it was more of a internet connect issue. I have experienced other issues like hogging background processes especial image processing processes and coreaudiod, and some sleep/hibernation hinderances.
Some folks no issue other folks issues, even newer M macs. I have found for me that is is related to iCloud, if I don’t log in during the OS install process then I don’t have the issue and can login after the install seemed to do the trick, but Safari started doing it again on my 5,1 with Sonoma but my 6,1 is running 15.0.1 no prob.
@@MacSoundSolutions Oh, that's interesting. I never login during the install process at all. Either I do it afterwards - or If I update it's already active. It's a habit from being used to OCLP needing to install Wi-Fi drivers post install.
