CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ajax (James Remar) puts the moves on a woman (Mercedes Ruehl) sitting on a park bench, but she surprises him by arresting him and handcuffing him to the bench.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Walter Hill's hip, super-stylized action film unfurls in a dystopian near-future, when various gangs control New York City. Each gang sports a unique moniker ('The Warriors,' 'The Baseball Furies,' 'The Rogues'), with a costume underscoring its "theme"; each, in turn, is also responsible for one geographic area. Hill sets up the landscape as a massive, violent playground - replete with bridges, vacant subway tunnels, parks, abandoned buildings and the like, all ripe for exploration and adventure. As the tale opens, the titular Coney Island has traveled to the Bronx to attend a city-wide meeting of all gangs; at that event, however, the psychotic leader of a rival gang, The Rogues (David Patrick Kelly of Dreamscape) assassinates the head of the city's foremost gang, but The Warriors are pegged as culpable. This sends the gang fleeing through the labyrinthine city. With every thug in Manhattan in vicious, homicidal pursuit, they must also overcome all obstacles in their way. Throughout, Hill keeps the onscreen violence absurd, exaggerated and unrealistic, downplaying death to an extreme degree; despite this fact, the film sparked a massive amount of controversy and an ugly backlash for allegedly inciting violence and destruction in several theaters where it initially played. James Remar, Michael Beck and Deborah Van Valkenburgh lead the ensemble cast.

Ajax was tough but he was crazy, which is why Cleon didn't want him second in command. Swan was the smarter decision maker.
Wis Dom yeah Ajax only thinks with one body part
yeah it's truth about you tape
FR
He like fell for a computer virus.
@Antonio Prasoto no in the game Swan and Cleon was friend before warriors build,Swan and Cowboy won against Warriors that only have two member and other gangs in street game competition call "king of the tower" i think?
Ajax was true a gentlemen he called her lady.

But so rough
Yes sir😂

But notice how his beautiful bowlcut hair stays perfectly in place. Ah, the '70s...
djmixnmagic aw, yes
djmixnmagic in fact, the movie is more on the 80's ^^'
lord eran1234 but not that far in the 80's.
hey ajax you very very crazy
lord eran1234 This film was shot in - 78 and came out february - 79. So its definetely '70s not the' 80s.
James Remar (Ajax) got so worked up during this scene that he actually drags the park bench around completely startling Mercedes Ruehl and director Walter Hill.
And it really sells the strength and rage of the character... People who write off the movie as silly aren't noticing how convincing the actors are.
@@ryanjacobson2508I always felt like he was one of the more realistic characters!
Back in '79, Ajax would have been released in a couple days, tops. The whole arrest was a farce. He would have ridden the bus back to Coney Island and been like, "Hey guys! So, how was the rest of YOUR trips home? I rode the bus, I've had enough of subways!"
Now, his actions would have triggered mass protests and media backlash.
Kiano Uy Oh yeah, all the SJW's demonizing him even though the undercover cop lady said she was looking for trouble.
Actually he would've gotten 6 months to a year for assaults on police officers
@Joel Johnson or an alternate sequel where cleon and fox actually survived. Fox could have easily dodged the train that nearly ran him over while cleon was actually captured and though not seen in the movie, masai could have revealed that he asked another group of riffs to bring cleon back to coney island
Couple of days? Do me a favour. Like it was Ajax’s first offence.
Damn! that body shot from the cop caused internal bleeding, Ajax chocking on blood
That's why you never try a backhand upswing on a guy standing over you with a baton.
How about an uppercut to the balls?
😂😂😂
Ajax should’ve been able to break that wooden bench just like the wooden fence when the meeting got broken up! Love the warriors man! Thank you Dad for showing me this film! I miss you so much
The actress is Mercedes Ruehl. She later played Tom Hanks’ mom in Big and won an Oscar for The Fisher King.
She looks Greek
She also appeared as Eve in Heartburn / a waitress in The Secret of My Success / Connie in Married to the Mob / the Party Guest in Crimes and Misdemeanors / Elaine in Another You / Irene Madigan (Danny's mom) in Last Action Hero / Bella in Lost in Yonkers - both the late Neil Simon's 1990 play and the Martha Coolidge film by Columbia that came less than 2 years later / Roseanna in Roseanna's Grave / Kathleen Carangi in Gia / Lizzy Avila in What's Cooking? / Leyla in Subway Stories' 'Underground' / Mama in Hustlers; and is part of the faculty at HB Studio in Greenwich Village, NY.
This scene made me sad at 13.
This scene still makes me sad at 25.
Because you are warped
I definitely agree he did too much
Why
"You wanna show me how you play with the chicks"
If that isn't a line that says I want sex now I really don't know what is. This was clearly entrapment
Nah, it was rape, she told him to stop multiple times.
***** same thing as stop
She said "don't be so rough" but he just got more aggressive. I'm pretty sure that's a person forcing themself on someone else...
*****
and yet he was still rough
grievous549 It's hard to be a troll on youtube when everybody can see your past comments. Hopefully people won't give you the attention that you so crave.
I don't understand why he didn't break the park bench. I do it all the time in the game.
That's what I thought, should've just broke the wood with his foot.
Swan helped him escape prison in the comics
Yeah in The Warriors:Jailbreak issue 4
The comic is fanmade or not?
I think thata not fanmade
that's*
Menggerakan Tenaganya_ Zidane Daniswara nah the comic is canon
this makes me so sad, i wanted him to be in the rest of the movie. he was the funniest and the sexiest
No, just no...
+Lizzy Vollmer Ikr. What a cowardly bitch that lady was. Tricking him into getting handcuffed with sexual abuse!
+Doom666 Fuck you
+Doom666 i read the reunion never happened...
@@TechnoAdamGuy All cops were out to arrest as many gang members as they could that night.
To me Ajax wasn't just a tough guy who liked to rumble but a misguided young man
Interesting fact: According to IMDB that cop was the original actor who was meant to play Ajax, but the director thought he was too old and so gave the part to the other actor.
The cop who hits him, with the dumb look on his face?
The lady couldn’t pull it off anyways
Irwin Keyes, he had a ton of small roles during his career (sadly he died in 2015). Was in the original Friday the 13th, House of 1000 Corpses, Married with Children, Tales from the Crypt, The Flintstones live action film with John Goodman, a ton of other stuff. Also the undercover cop was Tom Hanks' mom in Big@@nikobellic2515
@@drlight6677Joe Rockhead, yep!
James Remar to me was the best part of this movie.
It’s funny, I saw this movie when I was 16 and the characters looked so much older to me. Now I’m almost 29 and they look younger to me now, closer to my age.
Well, pretty much all of The Warriors were around the same age range you are now. They were all in their twenties when this was filmed-which makes sense because there usually aren't that many old active gang members(and there's a reason for that since gang members usually end up dead or in prison).
I remember this movie in the theater back in 1979 when I was working for Foley & Burk carnival, was considered a 40 mileler , I worked as a ridejock, along with the jointies, and the PBQ's at least I didn't get 86 and become a mark for 3 year's.
Looking back, this scene had everyone --- James Remar, Mercedes Ruehl and even the guy who played Hugo in the Jeffersons!! lol
Cleon and Fox die alone.
While Ajax goes to jail alone.
And this why 6 members of the warriors go home by stick together by all caused.
Dtt159 aleast in the game cleon fox and Ajax had more screen time tho
But they died because they were fired from production
hornswoggle lover39 well actually the actor who played cleon had another movie to do and Thomas waites who played fox got in argument with Walter hill so that’s actually he left production and they replace the fox character with stunt double for him to die in the movie.
Joel Johnson ikr and even in the original script cleon died in the as well and Ajax probably was suppose to die too. But wish they kept cleon and the fox in the movie much longer and Ajax should have listened to swan and he would have made it back to Coney Island because I figure like it really killed the movie when Ajax got caught. But since the warriors video game was canon to the movie aleast cleon the fox and Ajax was around much longer with the new bloods as backup and cleon and fox wasn’t the only 2 warriors that died ash also died in the game. But he was only a joke character for the game he wasn’t in actual warrior member he was only apart of the new bloods and the warriors for a short time.
Joel Johnson yes and I agree but they also have original opening to the movie during daytime when cleon and talking to his girlfriend named Lincoln she really didn’t want him to go to the meeting but he didn’t listen and he introduced the warriors differently from the actual opening during nighttime in plus Ajax had in Scottish accent in deleted scenes with gave cleon more dialogue in lines than the actual movie but I’m glad the video game gave more to the story than the movie and the characters had bigger roles in the game have you ever played the warriors game by rockstar 2005 version. It’s a backstory on how they become the warriors?
True fact - the pig faced cop who hits ajax with his nightstick was actually gonna be the actor who played ajax but they decided he was too old. Thank fuck for that!
She had to whistle six times before they came for backup.
He was one of my favorite character in the movie and the game
Who's the cop? Dude's incredible. Seen him before. Such a cartoon caricature.
I always thought he was a fascinating looking human being. Very much like a cartoon caricature. His jawline is exceptional.
His name is Irwin Keyes.

I love The Warriors my favorite movie classic.
1:31 wow that guy has one massive jawline
Him being arrested always depressed me as a kid it’s just such a shame
I loved Ajax in this movie. He was an asshole, but he was a badass, so it kind of offset. But as much as I enjoyed this movie, I don't get this scene at all. Why was he arrested? Isn't what the cop did entrapment? Her saying "Don't worry, we'll get it on," is basically saying "Yeah, let's bang." Was this an acceptable police practice at the time, or just corrupt cops finding roundabout reasons to arrest gang members?
Goddammit. I really wanted Ajax to be there until the end.
he was going to rape her either way if he could, you could see it in his fellow gang members face what his plan was. he's an asshole.
I don't know. They couldn't really find a good reason to arrest and detain him if he was JUST in a gang, but he tried to rape her. I didn't know it was a cop when I watched the movie.
+Seraph Sephiroth ..But she enticed it.
imo it wouldnt have felt right seeing ajax walking down the shoreline into the sunset. It wasnt suitable karma for him and wouldve looked awkward
***** doesn't matter, it's still attempted rape.
Under arrest for what? She invited him to come at her!
He is in a gang that are being hunted. Or something I don't fucking know.
That doesn't mean not to stop when she says 'quit it'. Plus, all gang members are being hunted tonight
Sexual assault too.
Sexual assault on a police officer and assault on another police officer. Plus being a gang member the cops were looking for, she hit the jackpot. Even back then, they didn't have cops in the back seat of the squad car(used to be called an RMP). Back then, you did have to carry that whistle cause the only radio you had was in the car. No mobile communication for PD's till at least the next decade so once you left that car, your comms were cut off. You would mainly carry a 38 or 357 pending the department too. Semi automatics weren't big till the late 80's and early 90's with PD's. Hard to believe how much I know about these days. This movie also wasn't too long after the blackout of 1977 out there in NYC.
Come on, in real life would a woman sit alone on a park bench at night in a big city? Unless there's a good reason for it in this case she's an undercover cop.
I remember when I first saw this I wanted Ajax to break out because I hated the fact that he was not in the movie until the end, at the same time, I did not like that my favorite character in this movie is essentially a rapist haha. However, I cant help but to think that if Ajax didn't get caught here, he might've died due to his temper and his will to fight all of the time later on in the film. For example, I am pretty sure he would have died in the house of the LIzzies because he would be so blinded by sex that he would not think twice about it being a setup.
You're forgetting that the warriors are gang members. They're scum the movie being centered around them surviving being hunted doesn't change the fact that they're criminals and have questionable morals just like all the other gang members in the movie
thedarkknight646 shut up wimp
DewsRandom lol I’d flatline your dumbass in real life keyboard tough guy
There's a sequel comic where they break him out of prison.

May Irwin Keyes(Cop) R.I.P. Passed away 7/8/2015 age 63 from acromegaly.
Yeah, quite a few of the actors from the movie have now passed away.
Ajax is the strongest of them all
"Trouble wears a pretty face."
Ensnarement + Entrapment = RAPE ...LOL!
when Remar says 'Goddamit', he's mad at himself for getting caught, not at Mercedes Ruehl.
Ajax could be jerk, but if he covers your back you know, you'll be fine.
That long final close-up on him, the defeat. We won't see him again.
1:17 reminded me of chucky😅😅
*"Legend Says Ajax is Still cuffed"*
I wish they didn't arrest Ajax he like was the best character in the movie
Ajax was probably my favorite Worrier sucked to see he didn’t make it.
Damn it Ajax. You have to be smarter than that...
The arresting Officer was Sonny Landham who was Billy on "Predator", and also fought Chuck Norris in "Firewalker"!
Could u subscribed
Not him. It’s Irwin Keyes.
Imagine if he had both hands free. He could have knocked out both cops like it was nothing.
Seeing him in this scene and then watching Black Lightning is the funniest thing ever.
00:31 she's exhausted just from that little bit of tussle with Remar. Adrenaline I suppose! I wonder how many takes Walter Hill did this scene in?
" Hey lady, stop kidding around, let me go!
It's sad this part when he says let me go he was my favourite
Our policewoman (Ruehl) was very seductive but also quite efficient. She knew how to spring the trap so as to capture the tempted Ajax (Remar). I cannot believe how young they both are in this classic late-70s film.
If Ajax was smart, then would not get captured if he basically just stayed with them as well brawl the punks and ignore the chick that was sitting in the park
He might've been able to escape if he positioned the cuff halfway between the two back supports and pushed off it with his legs. Depends how worn the wood is.
When I was a kid I always thought he got arrested and went to jail for life, now that I’m grown he probably did a few days and got released 😂 makes me feel better
AJAX WAS ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT WOOL AKA COOCHIE . THEY WERE RUNNING FOR THERE LIVES HE STILL WAS THINKING ABOUT COOCHIE.
yeah. He was askin for it
chuito chuito then he got what he deserved.
Ajax was my favorite warrior in the movie and the game
Entrapment! I call entrapment your honour!
Flirting and suggestive conversation does not justify attempted rape....plus both parites will have to admit she said "not so rough".....any lawyer will be able to pick that apart in minutes
'Your honour, she's sitting in the park late at night, big gang shooting not far away with her police buddies round the corner and a whistle. Your honour, my wife likes it rough but this does not constitute potential rape. The defence rests.. Fire that cop.' The Judge stands and says: 'Ajax is not guilty!!' (insert applause and the warriors putting all their knives and s**t away). 'One last thing', the judge says, 'arrest that bent cop. Entrapment!' insert rapturous applause as the evil b***h is sent away. Everyone pats Ajax on the back as he leaves the hearing. Case closed.
His voice is so different than from the game.
I thought they just took audio from the movie.

Ajax Was Just Hardheaded In A Way He Deserved It,They Told Him To Come On!!!.
People say it killed the movie, just because it was the fall of Ajax. I don't know why - I rather enjoyed the scene. It was the story of a broad-minded meat-head, and he got what he needed for turning his back on the pack, even if he is my most favored character.
Hey buddy don't mess with Vinnie Chase's mom from Entourage.

They had to lose their best guy in order for future fights in the movie to be more fair.

Makes me wonder if Ajax was killed in the end. I mean, from how the next man in command of the Riffs talked, it sounded like the Riffs and the police were in cahoots almost, the way how he wanted to know if the police had caught the Warriors when hearing about the Warriors evading the Turnbull ACs!!!!!!
Ajax is fine he was still alive you can have closure on him in the comic book sequel called "the warriors: Jailbreak".
At 1:30 you can see that the cop loves his job :D
