History and tradition-the Swiss Guard is proud and known for, just like the institution of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church. This fascinating and colorful ceremony of the solemn oath-taking of the new halberdiers of the Guard is unique. It evokes the seriousness, loyalty and commitment that these young Swiss men pledge to lay down their lives, if necessary, to protect the Pope, the College of Cardinals during the inter-regnum, an honor and privilege they undertake as had decades before by their fellow Swiss Guard-past, present and future. May God bless the Pontifical Swiss Guard.
I've read that Nazi SS uniforms were designed by Hugo Boss, but, in fashion,, this is nothing comparing to wearing uniforms designed by Michelangelo himself!

The music you can listen to in the background is out of Richard Wagners 'Parsifal'! It's moving for me as i was brought up in those walls in the Vatican, was there in the crowd when this film was turned and was recently singing this Opera 'Parsifal' in Zurich Opera House! Thank you for having posted this film!

5:05 I'll like this mainly because the Swiss Guards played the fucking "I Will Survive" song by Ms. Gaynor THROUGH BRASS INSTRUMENTS.
Obviously they are all Swiss guys and most of them are speaking in German during oath in this video, one at 1:33 instead speaks in Italian language. Evidently he comes from the Italian-speaking Switzerland. Most likely from Canton of Ticino.

Hitler ripped that stuff off from this ceremony to service his narrative that the "Third" Reich was a successor to the Holy Roman Empire. If you ever wondered why people are uncomfortable with having their culture appropriated, this is a stellar example.

These three fingers represent the Holy Trinity, Father,Son and Holy Spirit, It is on this "salute" that each guard makes his serment. The same way of swearing is already used by Swiss Representatives in their Parlement.
This the symbole of switzerland to! In switzerland when ew make a promes like this we make this like That! This symbole was bien when the first Swiss un 1291 says: " One for all, all for one" and make this symbol with the end.

These men have to be proficient in the weapons they carry and will just cut you down with them if necessary and do it with extreme precision and lethality. They also pack some heat under those tunics as well, are trained in counter terrorism tactics and advanced hand to hand combat techniques.

Schweizer, ledig, wehrfähig, Katholik, mindestens 174cm gross und zwischen 19 und 30 Jahre alt. Des weiteren muss die Rekrutenschule und eine Mittelschule oder Berufsausbildung abgeschlossen worden sein. Der einwandfreie Leumund sollte eigentlich selbstverständlich sein.

Swiss guard has firearms at their disposal (SIG SG 550, Glocks, Heckler & Koch submachine-guns etc.) Though the ones that carry guns are probably in plain-clothes, rather than the ceremonial uniform.
Those are ceremonial weapons and uniforms. The real guards are there, don't worry.
They do use guns, those are no spears. Definitely not for throwing, they're called Halberds which are massive double handed weapons and used for hacking and stabbing.
Their the 189, in the service of heaven, their protecting the holy line..

In reality the flag changes with every pontiff and commander.
This beacuse the coat of arms of the pope and the commander are shown, so at every chenge of any of the two, the flag gets a redo.

OLAV THE VIKING these uniforms were designed by Michelangelo. Like any military dress uniform, it’s not meant to be practical. Similar to the Queen’s guard in England, who wear funny hats and silly looking clothes.

Have you considered that their respect is not shown to an inanimate object, but to the Catholic God and its institution they have sworn to protect?

Because in the olden days, most people were illiterate and they only way to prove things was if you had enough people to witness it. Now if dozens or hundreds of people swear allegiance together, you cannot really know whether each and every one said the words, so you let them swear individually for all others to see.... and they never changed it...
