    Thx for that helpful Information. Especially on how much throws you have.
    Time to reprogram my TX and get out on the flying field.
    Cheers, Mike

      Thanks. It's a great value DLG - I'm now on my second wing having broken the the first through stupidity.

    I'm just getting into DLG/setting up my glider and your video is fantastic sir! Great precise setup/work on your glider. Thank you for sharing Maat, really helps me to make things clear.
    Tally Ho! :)

    Hi,
    Great video!
    Just getting into DLG with a Longshot 4 on my Taranis and have programmed other machines including F3F styly and Quads!
    I would be interested in viewing your files to understand what you have posted here!

    looks nice, how capable do you think the maat is of some aerobatics on the way down? I've been looking to buy it!

    • @lotophagi711
      @lotophagi711  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like most good DLGs the Maat can do areos (roll, spin, loop inverted). It's not designed to be aerobatic of course and being light does not carry its momentum well through loops - but they can be tight. It is very strong so you won't break it I think pulling tight maneuvers or going to fast.

    what tx are you using?, I have a taranis qx7 and dont know if i trust it or not for the maat that I recently purchased from rcgliders.I also have frsky g-rx8 with vario built in.Do you think this rx will work?The tx you are using seems to be better than the qx7.thanks for any help you can give me,Im new to dlg and any help with this build would be appreciated.

      Hi,
      I have an XD9 plus. I have had no problems with it in about 5 years.
      I use frsky d4r2 rx and their vario.
      I'm sorry I can't comment on the the qx7 or the rx8 as I have not used them. But as long as you can fit the rx in the very small fuselage it should be fine.
      Good luck

    Hi mate. Love your setup would there be any chance I could get your setup file for my L.D Stark? Pulling my hair out setting this thing up! Kinda miss how simple my Futaba was.

      Thank you so much.
      Mine works kind of but I really like how your altimeter reads the alt after push over...would I need any specific help setting that up with my x4r and frsky variometer?

    • @lotophagi711
      @lotophagi711  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From memory I assign a switch to play the alt value when the elevator goes above neutral - as in moving the stick forward for the push over. Its been a long time since I looked at the code but I think L9 is assigned.
      In order to hook up the vario to the x4r you need to fiddle with wiring a bit but it's not too difficult. Have a look here at Scruffy's post www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2177662-taranis-time-%21-getting-a-vario-and-monitoring-into-the-binary. He has the wiring diagram there.
      I built a power loom and just dropped a positive and negative on a standard servo plug, and powered the vario on the other end from scruffy through the normal servo connections. I use a 1S Lipo to power everything and that works just fine.
      I hope that helps.

    Do you have any videos about programmig transmitter for your setup? Or maybe you can direct me somewhere where I could find that info? Just starting with OpenTX so it is still a big mess for me.

    Personally i would use reflex on launch with a dlg.

    • @lotophagi711
      @lotophagi711  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes reflex is used in the zoom phase of the launch. When the momentary switch is pulled a bit of positive flap and up elevator is added to help the rotation. This is only held on for a second until the plane has rotated. As soon as the switch is released the up elevator is removed and reflex is added. I think this is clear in the video and is pretty normal stuff:-)
      If you watch the launch at the beginning of this video th-cam.com/video/ZWgz2RI4BaQ/w-d-xo.html you can see it starts wit positive camber and goes to negative as soon at it leaves my hand.

    • @kyus1974
      @kyus1974 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lotophagi You will gain a couple of meters if you use reflex all the way up, then camber as you push over. This will reduce your stall speed and maximize launch height. If your cg is near the neutral point then you should only need 2mm up elevator to rotate.

    • @lotophagi711
      @lotophagi711  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree.
      I have experimented with the setup a lot and get better launch heights with a momentary bit of positive flap to help the rotation. With the CoG where it is I need a tiny amount of elevator to start the rotation. This is varied depending on the amount of wind and the launch angle required.
      The push over at the top is helped by negative snap flap - not adding more positive flap! It needs to behave in the same that an aerobatic plane does.
      This is pretty normal practice for a DLG.
      I have experimented carefully with this setup to optimize launch height and is normal practice in Europe and Asia.

    Sir, I enjoyed that simple setup, I've just transitioned to a Taranis Q X7 and would love a copy of your file. If you are still monitoring this video just acknowledge and I will check back and include my email. I'm currently on OpenTX 2.3.---- not sure the last # but even if your file is for an older version I could probably open it in companion and learn. Or adapt it. I'm mostly interested in the switching from launch to other modes when the launch switch is released. (or even a similar one if you have moved on) I'm flying an Azure, similar to the Topsky 1 I think. Thanks, Alex

      I haven't updated the setup since 2016 - unfortunately illness has prevented me from flying for the past 3 years.
      I can send you the .eepe with pleasure if you send me your email. It's based on version 2.0.20 but that shouldn't matter.

    Should't one programm the ailerons going up (1mm) for start position?

    • @lotophagi711
      @lotophagi711  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, It's normal to have a little positive camber for the initial rotation. Once the momentary switch is released after the DLG starts to climb the reflex (negative flap) is put in for the "zoom" mode. You can see that at about 3:30 in the video. Hope that helps.

    how important are rates do you think having a higher expo is better so you always have full deflection in trouble?

    • @lotophagi711
      @lotophagi711  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to use high rates so I have a lot of throw but also have about 50% expo as well, so the controls are soft around neutral but can still get full throw if I need it. I think to fully exploit you need the best servos that that you can afford so that they have no slop and are really accurate - 1mm of play at the trailing edge of an aileron will ruin the the crisp feel of the plane.
      One of the best things I have with this plane is snap flap. I have not used it before but I think it makes tight thermal turns smoother, with less tendency to stall out. Definitely worth experimenting with.

      He also makes a carbon wing version which if you are a strong launcher would be good idea I think.
