The line that runs from Tulsa to Enid is the old Frisco line. In Enid they get back on the old Sante Fe line heading west north west to the transcontinental line. The Sante Fe used to have a line that ran from Enid to Guthrie that was abandoned after the merger. In the early 80s there was a diamond in Fairview were a Sante Fe ran the signal in fog and was hit by a BN. I used to see these lines all the time in the 70s and early 80s. Also there used to be a line that the Rock Iland had that left the north yard were that road crossing is and ran west to Perry thru Garber Ok. It served some grain elevators. It was in bad shape they ran GP9s on it. Used to see them during wheat harvest in June alot.
Grew up in Perry and have always been fascinated with the railroads in the area. There's a lot of lines that used to run in and out of Enid that no longer exist. Not sure when the SF line from Enid to Guthrie was finally taken out, but a filmmaker friend and I explored it in 2006-2007, so it likely wasn't long after that. I also remember the line that went from Enid to Billings to Tonkawa (I think). The line was still in place, though abandoned, around '06-'07, and was pulled up sometime later. I don't recall the Rock Island line you're referring to. Do you have any links regarding it?
I just found this video and had a couple of questions if you don't mind. I'm not a "railfan" as they call them, but I am a hobby photographer and am wanting to get a few photos of some BNSF locomotives in action before my family and I relocate out of state. I'm from the Stillwater area originally, so I think it would be neat to have some good photos before we move Northeast, far away from any BNSF trains. For that Black Bear junction NE of Perry, how long do you typically have to wait before a train comes through? Are they quite frequent? I've found online trackers for airplanes and river barges, but can't find any for freight trains, so I'm assuming it's just a matter of going out there and waiting a while; is that correct? I'm thinking of going out there on a Saturday and trying my hand at catching some to photograph, but I'm not too sure on how my luck will go with seeing many. The Red Rock sub also passes through Mulhall, which is not too far from me, so I've also thought about hanging out over there for an hour or so. Appreciate any advice you may have!
Alot of what the town can do when it comes to the Heartland Flyer is if Amtrak is still in business and those days are very iffy as long as they continue to feed off the government. PS: Really cool little town which probably in its day was a hotbed passenger pick up and drop off point.
Amtrak did include a note in their 2019 budget request that included a request for expansion funding. Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen, but there's enough hints to keep hopes alive. Someday I'd love to see the depots up north get unshuttered and restored like the one in Norman.
@@WestOkieRailroadVideos If Amtrak would ever break away from the government, yeah I see it happening. But until then, you'd better hope their own hand doesn't cost them.
4:44 what is that blue engine?
That's one of the GE Tier 4 Demonstrator units. Definitely a lucky find!
