The second he said “starting with number one: skyward sword” I knew it was going by timeline and I’m glad I’m not the only one wishing the person making the list did it by release lol
yeah I wish it was by release. No one cares about the timeline, they wanna see the graphics evolving lol
@@Ramsteinrig Wat no
I think Deebee asked for it based on timeline maybe unknowing it was all over the place in terms of when the games came out lol
@@Ramsteinrig As someone who cares about the timeline, screw whoever made the list for Dee Bee Geek. Put it in release order with the 3 remake trailers (OoT, MM, LA) slotted after the games they're remade from.
And yes, I said only three remakes. The other three are just enhanced HD ports.
@@JazzyWaffles Out of the three remakes Majora's Mask is the only one I don't like, and I hope they make remakes in the style of LA for Oracle of Ages & Oracles of Seasons. They're good Zelda games and a bit unique in their worlds and mechanics, given that they were released on the gameboy and had the same style as LA I believe having the same style in remake would be fitting.
“Wholesome and Adorable Characters” just wait for Majora and Twilight
That’s exactly what I was thinking
lmao
Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess are the darker games, but tbh almost every Zelda game has some creepy shit
xD
This guy is wholesome and adorable
Zelda games that I would love to see you playing:
-Ocarina of Time
-Majora's Mask
-Twilight Princess
-Skyward Sword
-Wind Waker
-A Link Between Worlds
-Link's Awakening
This is pretty much a perfect list
I’m agree

Shoudn't someone play LttP bevor AlbW and Awakening?
I would say Lttp should be one of the first ones in general, don't you agree?
@@Komory I’m not young but I started Albw before Lttp
I'm also down with this list, plus it would be cool to see him enjoy Hyrule Warriors as well!
25:26 "I like that owl already"
Said no one ever in the history of the Legend of Zelda.
it's because he hasn't played it yet lol once he gets into it, we'll see him nagging just like the rest of us.
To be fair, the Link's Awakening Owl isn't nearly as bad as the Ocarina of Time one.
His chats tend to be rather brief & thanks to the remake fitting more text on-screen
there's much less button mashing you gotta go through for a single conversation.
I mean, it's not Kaepora Gaebora.
I like kaepora gaebora, but just storywise, obviously
@@ZeldaVerde Me too. He's a cool character.
I'm really disappointed in whoever compiled that list. They didn't include the Robin Williams Ocarina of Time trailer.
Yeah, I know... I thought exactly the same thing. That one is one of the best commercials, plus Robin Williams was a big Zelda fan
@@zenKmi well he named his daughter Zelda, so big fan is kind of an understatement
@@Zimzky91 that takes the whole I named you what I like meme to another level
Well, he said he'd watch every trailer. So any missing trailers should probably be brought up to add to the list. It's a great reason to make it a two parter--so you can get more feedback about what you've missed.
Because its a commercial and not a trailer.
A Link to the Past (1991) deserves a special shoutout for being one of the few retro games in any series that had really stood the test of time and still has players and tournaments to this day.
Also, A Link Between Worlds is basically a direct sequel to it. So if you were going to play _Worlds,_ you really should play _Past_ first.
Yup!
Wait.... How did you italicize those words in youtube? 🤯

Agreed, but play Twilight Princess BEFORE Wind Waker, because OoT, MM and TP are basically a trilogy set in the same timeline.

Me: The Best Zelda Commercial Ever.
I find it really interesting that you're checking out the rest of the Zelda series after starting with Breath of the Wild, since BotW was the game that broke traditional Zelda conventions and did something completely different than the rest of the series
Right-
I am interested to see what he thinks of the other games and how formulaic they are. He’s essentially experiencing the games in reverse, which will be fun to see how that goes
Definitely play Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. Those are probably the most crucial to the history of Hyrule. Majora’s mask is cool too, and has a really dark story. It doesn’t take place in Hyrule though. Also, play Age of Calamity! It’s the prequel to breath of the wild!
Don't look up anything about Age of Calamity until you've beaten Breath of the Wild, though. Might end up spoiling a lot of the experience.
Not skyward sword lol... it would be really hard to play on stream
I'll add to that: play them in release order
Link to the Past/ Link Between Worlds is important And Link's Awakening too

@@Fallen_Pup hopefully
The Zelda Timeline is built like a fork, the spot where the timeline splits is Ocarina of Time because it messed with time traveling, thus creating 3 individual timelines. Breath of the wild seems to be at the end of all 3 timelines but we don't really know how that happened except for some people thinking that Hyrule Warriors is the cause due to it's really-mending story.
Ah yes, Link's Awekning being cute to hide the *depression*
Giving Marin a more wholesome voice, just to get you to miss her more
No need to talk about the elephant in the room
I’d just like to say that Minish Cap is definitely worth playing. You can get it on Wii U or via an emulator. It has a fantastic story and good controls even for how old it is.
I loved minish cap!
Minish Cap is one of my favorite Zelda titles. I love the soundtrack so much

Play all the 3d titles (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword) and Link's Awakening. Also play a Link to the Past, you get it with Nintendo Switch Online
A Link to the Past is amazing, I think it gets so overlooked ;_;
And A Link Between Worlds
Also Age of Calamity
Just say, “you get it with Nintendo Switch Online.” No point in adding the word, “free.” It’s just misleading.
"This is definitely the manliest version of Link." "Link is always so adorable." "The storylines are so wholesome." Can't wait to see your reaction to Twilight Princess. You're in for a shock
Or when he eventually plays Links Awakening and discovers the truth
@@theakiwar9118 On the surface, the whole franchise seems so sweet and wholesome. Once you get into the story, you see how dark it is.
Alex Riley Yeah. With franchises like Metroid you know that it will get quite dark from the get go. With Mario you know it will be light hearted. With Zelda and Kirby you see a lighthearted setting that is fucked up and dark beyond compare
Ah Link's Awakening. "This game is adorable!" Yes, yes it is. The most adorable game ever that will give you an existential crisis.
Skyward sword is very story heavy, that being said, it's one of the most well written game I've every played. I know you would like it and it will do well on your twitch/youtube.

I wonder if he will consider himself a “Nintendo guy” after his botw play through!
He already has the attitude of a Nintendo guy ngl

Lol. Yeah that’s one of the most infamous video game commercials of ALL TIME. The legendary “Zelda hip hop dance” commercial that of course was only released in japan.
It was so famous in fact that it was commonly at the top of “weird Japanese commercial” compilations for YEARS, probably still is.
Didn't they also remake the rap for a Link between worlds trailer?
Ocarina of Time has three different canon endings, each leading to separate timelines. I won't go into what happens in each but that's a simple answer to your questions about it.
"Graphics really aren't great."
Bro you have no idea how epic that OoT trailer was when it first started rolling out. It floored us.
As far as the question of OoT being openworld, it was the first real open World game. It was limited and parts were segmented, but it was the first truly living breathing world that was fully explorable. At the time it felt like a real world.
Totally agree! I was just talking about this with my mom--people seem to judge things based on contemporary expectations a lot, but don't really stop to think about how ground-breaking those very things were at the time! The OG OoT may just look like a mess of polygons now, but it was absolutely groundbreaking when it was released! I think that's how a lot of the older fans see it too... they see it for what it was, not what it is when compared to newer titles.
And the 3D version makes it better gameplay wise, atmosphere there’s a lot less blood and ganon... yeah. But still stuff like the water temple were heavily improved, it’s not that it was hard in the n64, it was un fair
Deebee: Don't tell me its open world
Long time fans: Laughs in Hylian
It felt like so, back in the day lol
I'm happy to see that outside of the success the Breath of the Wild playthrough has given you, you have a genuine interest in the Zelda franchise! Really you can't go wrong with any Zelda game (except the Philips CDI games but we don't talk about those) but if I had to limit it to 3 titles to give a shot after BotW:
1) Link's Awakening (Switch) - Great game to introduce you to 2D Zelda, which is spectacular in it's own right. Graphically and Audio wise its one of the best Zelda's, but even without that this game wastes no time throwing you into a really fun adventure. To top it off, it has a very interesting atmosphere compared to other Zelda's. The mystery of Koholint island is always present in the players mind, building subtly at first until you reach a point where you begin to question the nature of your quest in a way that I haven't seen in any game since.
2) Ocarina of Time (n64) - This one is obvious, but I am just going to reinforce that this game is the cornerstone of the entire series, and for good reason. Ocarina of Time is the game that changed everything; splitting the timeline, establishing the foundation of Zelda lore, and launched the series into 3D. I think by todays standards there are games in and out of the series that do certain aspects of OoT better, but no game comes close to being as consistent across the board as this one. This is where the heart of the series shines brightest.
3) The Wind Waker HD (WiiU) - Honestly was split between this, Skyward Sword, and TP but I feel strongly about giving WW your attention first for a few reasons. Art in this game has a similarity to BotW in that its cell shaded and while it is cartoony I feel it is one of the best styles in the series. In addition I really enjoy Link, Zelda, and Gannon's portrayal in this one; Link has an actual family he looks after, Zelda is really adventurous and rugged, and we see the same Gannondorf from Oot but as a changed, maybe much humbler man. Its really fascinating and personally I think this one has some of the best dungeons and bosses. This was my first 3D Zelda so maybe I'm a little biased but I still have to give this one my vote.
Hope you find this useful, and welcome to the Zelda community!
I grew up in the 80s, and I FULLY remember the lame "ZELDAAAAAAA" commercials with the guy in the black suit, lol. I also remember when we went on our summer vaction to camp out at Bass Lake (same place they filmed The Great Outdoors, lol), one night we kept yelling out "ZEEEELLLLDAAAAAA!!" Good times.
This man is covering my entire childhood and teenage years. First playing Halo, then watching some Mass Effect trailers, now playing Zelda games. But nevertheless the nice thing about Zelda is you can play any of the games and everything will make sense. Technically there is a timeline since Nintendo caved into fan pressure, since people are obsessed with making them; but to me every game is a standalone game with references to past titles. With the exception of OOT to Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker to Phantom Hour Glass to Spirit tracks.

This is my first time seeing that trailer and I can’t believe I’ve missed out on such a masterpiece
I had a vhs tape as a kid with a bunch of Nick cartoons like, Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy. There was a commercial, shot from first person pov, and it was someone traveling through all these places, swamp, desert, forest, all while a voice over describes an adventure. It ends with you traveling through a corridor, a gate slams in front of you, then the logo for A Link to The Past shows. I've never been able to find that commercial online.
In Germany we had a cut/localized version of the japanese ad for ALttP. They worked really hard to conceal, that Link was played by a woman! :D

I’ve actually always questioned why people like OOT so much. I’m genuinely curious, what about it struck a chord with so many people? I never really got into it.
@@BeALight-i3z It’s the nostalgia. For many Zelda fans, Oot was the very first game they ever played from the franchise. Not to mention the first 3D game that many people played. I am kinda on the same page as you. I thought it was a fun game, but people hyped it up so much that it didn’t really meet my expectations. Nostalgia can be a powerful thing
@@evalynbaun6672 True, but I think it goes a bit deeper than that. I think nostalgia plays a role, certainly, but for so many people to call it the “best Zelda game ever”, it must have really made an impact on a lot of people.
I would argue the play order should be:
1: Ocarina of Time
2: Majora's Mask
3: Twilight Princess
Because those three are set in the same timeline and are basically a self-contained trilogy.
@@BeALight-i3z exactly. Its really not that great
The Official Zelda timeline is a bit of a mess, admittedly. Without getting too much into spoilers, the different timeline branches stem from the events in Ocarina of Time, since in that game you play as Link as both a child and an adult. What gets really confusing is when Nintendo revealed the official timeline, they added a third branch, where Link is defeated.
In Breath of the Wild, it takes place 10,000 years after the events of the timeline, so it’s implied in that game, Zelda and the others know of all of the other games as legends, or possibly the timeline repeated itself to make all events happen before the events of BOTW. (Or maybe Nintendo just wanted to reference other games and nothing else)
It’s a big mess, and no one ever thought of a third branch where Link is defeated, so it took everyone by a HUGE surprise. All you really need to know is Skyward Sword is the start of everything in the overall Zelda lore, while BOTW is farthest in the timeline (as of right now). Hyrule Warriors is a mashup of all timelines/games and doesn’t effect the timeline, but Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is going to be a direct prequel to BOTW.
Hope this helps you!
The hyrule warriors botw prequel will ruin things even more if it is going to be canon. The egg apparently time travels so it could mean that botw never happens and botw 2 is a continuation of this prequel. But if the the egg fails in helping or finishing whatever it is doing then it would be a weird timeline loop and it wouldn’t make much since and it would ultimately be the most useless story.
@@darthg1zmo21 it is canon but I see it as the guardian egg time traveling to save the world as a failure anyway so botw comes in but we will need to see how the prequel story works. It might actually enlighten us in what the sequel might bring us.
What is even more confusing and a lot of people overlook is botw is 100 years after the calamity and 10,000 after the legend they tell in the game (where they find the divine beasts and have guardians around) so it might be even further down the timeline. Not to mention how different the whole world looks even though it has places we know from other series.
It’s most likely going to hint something’s for the sequel with the new mastermind that was shown in a trailer
I kind of think of BotW as a reboot. The whole Zelda timelines thing is essentially one giant retcon anyway. Whenever they make a new Zelda game, they're always focused on making it a good game, mostly in isolation. They keep elements that make it a "zelda game" but otherwise, they seem to treat it in a vacuum until it's done. Then they shoehorn it in somewhere. I don't remember ever seeing the multiple timelines model appear until after Twilight Princess came out. By that point, it was a total impossibility to fit it between any other two entries in the series.
The continuity breaks had already started happening with Windwaker though. Up until that point, everything more or less fit. When I originally played OoT, it was obvious to me that this was the sealing war, except that it didn't quite fit to have Gannondorf outside of the dark world prior to being sealed. But it didn't matter too much because discrepancies in continuity between OoT and ALttP could be easily explained as the details getting messed up over time in the re-telling of the legends. But Wind Waker being officially sequel to OoT pretty much broke any chance of single timeline continuity with the whole flood thing. Had they made it fall after AoL, then we may not have had the 3 timelines thing.
This is going to be a recommendation that you will not see very often probably but before going further in the series you have to go with A Link to the Past. It won't take you long and will give you a true appreciation of the progression of the series and Miyamotos vision. And you can play it on the Switch!
I don't even understand how this game has been recommended so infrequently in this thread. This is hands down the greatest Zelda game ever made, possibly the greatest video game ever. And it still holds up, even 30+ years later! Eminently playable.
@@KrisDiehl I'll probably be hanged for saying this, but I think A Link Between World was better.
@@wintersong2266 I can see that, a link between worlds is a revision on a Link to the past that feels like a true immediate evolution bringing a third dimension in a milder way than 3D zeldas. It is, if you will, the Mario 3D world of the Zelda games.
@@KrisDiehl that game is legacy, it is truly a stroke of genius and while I can see arguments for other zeldas being "the best Zelda" there's definitely a strong argument for this one. It is truly a flawless game from a game design perspective
@@wintersong2266 LBW maybe arguable, but it doesn't hold up in a vacuum. Only WITH it's legacy to LttP does it achieve 10/10 greatness. Nevertheless, it IS utterly brilliant, and while I adore LttP's art style, LBW modernizes everything nearly perfectly.
The oracle games were my favorites. Ages was a mostly puzzle filled game with time travel between past and present. Seasons had more action and less puzzles with a rod that could change the season of an area. If you used the password system, you could get extra and more powerful post game equipment for whichever game you beat first, bring said equipment and rings to the next game, and even unlock a new ending and optional dungeon that tests your meddle.

Link's Awakening I highly recommend, if not for being a great Zelda, then for the simple fact that the remake is on the Switch and it would be easy for you to pick up.
If you enjoy big, epic stories, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword do that pretty well, even if they are a bit hand-holdy.
If you like completing side-quests, and ESPECIALLY if like really learning a lot about the world and characters, Majora's Mask has a very dark and sinister world to explore. It's my favorite game of all time.
Most Zelda games are like huge, wide lakes where you can swim and explore over a large area.
Majora's Mask is like a narrow well, but once you dive down, you realize it goes down deeper than you ever expected.
If you DO try Majora's Mask, take your time to collect all of the masks. It's worth the effort, and the process of doing so ensures you get to know all of the strange things that are happening in the world.
If you want to play A Link Between Worlds, I HIGHLY recommend playing A Link To The Past first. You can emulate it to clean up the visuals and resolution if you so choose. ALTTP is my first and favorite Zelda game. ALBTW is based in the same world. I think. The overworld in both games are basically the same. Anyways, both have amazing stories and top down Zelda games are arguably the best Zelda games.
Please.. I beg you. It might be an activity to find an emulator and figure out recording it but please.. Make a Ocarina of Time TH-cam series. With my time zone your streams are super early in the morning and I always miss them but for someone who is new to zelda, ocarina of time is the staple ot zelda. Think about it

If you want 2D I’d say Link to the Past/Link Between Worlds or Link’s Awakening (probably remake since you already have a switch). Also, please react to the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity trailers! Really enjoying your content!
Age of Calamity has spoilers though
oh dang. you’re right
I'd love to see you play Twilight Princess.
I have played (and finished) all of them I think.
Beside Zelda 2 on NES, I enjoyed them all.
My recommendation would be:
2D:
- Start with Legend of Zelda 3 (a Link to the Past)
- Then move on to Legend of Zelda - Links Awakening (which was remastered end 2019 on Switch if I remember correctly)
- Then, if you like the style, move over to all other 2D: Oracle of Seasons/Ages, The Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks or whatever: I enjoyed them all ^^
3D "Cartoon":
- The Wind Waker (a must)
3D "Normal":
- Start with Ocarina of Time
- Then move oon Majora's Mask
- Then move over to Twilight Princess
- Then, if you like the style, move to Skyward Sword
Ps: I wouldn't take "timelines" into consideration when you play zelda games ... basically, they are almost all the same: princess, vilain, save everyone ... what changes, is the journey ^^ => timeline is only something for hardcore fans to discuss ... and can become really confusing ... especially when considering time travels ^^
Dude you need to play majoras mask. It’s my favorite Zelda game of all time. The story is dark and very deep. It’s has a very serious undertone along with a lot of light and cheery moments. It has some of the most unique mechanics in the series. And the music is amazing. Don’t play the remake though. Get the original on Wii,wii u, or on the original n64
*original comment*
Yea, play the Ocarina of Time remake and Majora's Mask original. They fkd up a lot of important things in in the MM remake
Wait, what was wrong with the 3DS remake? I know the Zora portion sucked a bit, but other then that I enjoyed it...
@@cloudkitsune17 it’s not really that it’s bad. I personally think it’s still pretty good (what Nintendo game isn’t) but compared to the og it just pales in comparison.
@@fossilhunter6 I can understand. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game and I will still play the original. I'll take whichever version ported to Switch as well, as long as I can replay it the 100th time.
Definitely play Twilight Princess, Majoras Mask and Ocarina of Time
Ocarina, majora and twilight in that
order would be awesome.
They are connected in such beautiful way in my perspective
Those are definitely the best ones
@@benji8648 Link between worlds says hi
@@Allen-qs2xr i still haven't played it unfortunately
also wind waker, skyward sword, or any other zelda. Really can't go wrong with any of them.
Why did it have to be chronological!?! Hes not ready for that
IKR?!
I think it is better this way for him because, if going by release date, he would have to push through a lot of very old and strange commercials before getting to the more familiar, more recent stuff, and that would make his video reaction less engaging, overall.
I've been a Zelda fan since I could hold a controller so watching someone enter fresh has been such an enjoyable experience! Titles I'd highly recommend are:
-Ocarina of Time: It's a classic for a reason. It was Zelda's first step into 3D and sets up a lot of things you see later in the series. For instance, it will give some more lore on the Gerudo, Zora, and Goron races in BOTW. Good balance of adventure and puzzles with some very fun characters.
-Majora's Mask: Do not let the reused Ocarina of Time assets deter you, the two are night and day as far as tone. It's a much smaller scale than Ocarina, but as a result it's able to really flesh out the characters and story. It has a LOT of depth and replayability. My personal favorite.
-Wind Waker: Since you really seem to light up with the more playful looking games, definitely pick this one up. Good music, cute characters, fun world and story. It's a very good time! Also will show you Rito origins.
-Twilight Princess: Admittedly my memory of this one is fuzzy, but it was a lot of people's introduction to the series and is a fan favorite. I'm sure someone else has described it far better in these comments.
-Link To the Past/Link Between Worlds-Fun fact, the latter was supposed to be a remake of the former but it became it's own story and game. The result though is that they share similar overworld, characters, enemies etc. So if you're pressed for time and can only cover one, it's down to personal preference. Link to the Past looks fantastic for its age and has some great spatial puzzles and boss fights. Link Between Worlds takes the spatial puzzles and expands it into the mix of 3D-2D you saw with the painting mechanic. It also served as a good step into Zelda's non linear path later since it lets you buy items and play dungeons in relatively any order. Both are solid, good fun.
Link's Awakening: My experience is with the gameboy color version, but it is also a fun little romp of a game. I'd say play the remake since the new style fits fantastically with the mood of the original.
Skyward Sword: This one is a topic of debate with fans since it will be extremely hand hold-y. It will tell you what to do and when and will constantly remind you. The overworld is also one of Zelda's weakest since there isn't much to explore in the sky. However I personally still found it fun, just be aware of what you're getting into! It will have you use motion controls to determine how the sword moves and Ghirahim is a very creepy villain with some challenging fights. Plus a lot of the side characters have some fun development. Basically a good time, but probably not the strongest on the list.
And if you want to go back to the original nintendo era...be aware that both Zelda I and Zelda II go by old school game mechanics. This means there are little to no hints, game difficulty can be brutal, and while still fun it's not for everyone. I have a stronger attachment to Zelda II, but it's also probably the harder of the two.
Glad to see how much you like Zelda and that you're gonna go deeper into it. Here's some help.
The best order to play the major 3d games in terms of lore and overall story is:
Skyward Sword: This game sets the foundation for Zelda lore and tells you all you need to know about the reincarnations of Link and the beginnings of Hyrule. This game is likely gonna be remade for the switch so look out for that.
Ocarina of Time: This game gives you information about Ganondorf and is the cause behind the timeline split.
Majora's Mask: This game is the sequel to OoT and follows the same Link
Twilight Princess: The main reason you should play this after OoT and MM is because there are important references to those games.
WW: You could play this before TP if you want. Doesn't really make a difference. But make sure you play Oot before this as this has important references to it. This follows another timeline than TP.
A timeline video would help but it'll spoil the games so you should play at least these ones first.
I have waiting for this for so long, I'm sure that you'll enjoy this trailers for real!
Huh? Reacting to it in timeline order? What an odd way to do it. Would've expected release order.
As for what to play when you get around to it, I suppose the classics are best to go with. A Link to the Past for 2D, and Ocarina of Time for 3D. They're generally the highest regarded of each respective style of Zelda, and were both pioneers in their own right, ALTTP cementing the Zelda formula, and OoT having such a big impact on the franchise as a whole, as well as being the first foray into 3D.
Yeah who's idea was that? There's hardly any timeline anyway. You could play every game and never notice any continuity
The "timeline" is only for real obsessive fans anyway. It NEVER adds anything to any individual game. It's not like how the MCU warrants watching everything for instance.

Zelda minish cap is the most underrated Zelda game 100%! One of my favorite Zelda’s ngl
So glad to see you enjoying looking into the Zelda series! Since I know it takes a lot of time to play these games, my recommendation list is for what I consider the quintessential titles.
1. *Link's Awakening* (Switch) - This will give you a great look at the "2D" style of games and has a nice story. This will be a nice contrast to Breath of the Wild and the 3D games.
2. *Ocarina of Time* - This game helped define the formula that later 3D titles followed. The 3DS version is the best version, but it might be more difficult to record than the N64 version.
3. *The Wind Waker* (HD) - Greatly improves on OoT's gameplay, has a great story, and has a nice big ocean to explore. The HD version has some great quality of life improvements, though I think the visuals are less appealing than the original.
Other titles in the series, such as Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, have unique gameplay elements that can be better appreciated once you are familiar with OoT.
While the Link's Awakening remake isn't particularly important to the timeline or anything, it's still a super fun and adorable game. You should definitely do a series on it sometime!
ocarina of time
"there is no open world to that or just to an extent"
ahaha
oh boy youre in for a treat
Your reaction to the Japanese Link's Awakening had me laughing so hard! I lived through that era so it was normal to me. To see someone who wasn't expecting it was the best thing ever!
Here are the games you should play, no question. Im a lifelong Zelda fanatic and have never missed a release. I've seperated the games into 4 groups for you. First are the Essentials, the games with the most impact to the timeline and overall story of the series. The second group, although not "essential" are still amazing experiences and highly recommended. The third group are the nostalgic 2D style zeldas. Whether you would enjoy them or not depends solely on your enjoyment of that retro style of gaming. And finally the fourth group are the do not plays. Either because they are only enjoyable as a multiplayer experience, or because they are just simply not very good. Happy Gaming!

I have a friend who played through the entire timelines before he played Breath of the Wild. This is definitely a series that has grown on me and I can't wait for part two! Keep up the great work
The E3 2012 Teaser Trailer for Zelda Wii U and the E3 2014 Teaser Trailer for BotW aren't on the List.
There should also more infos to the games for you, so as the release year, the release console, the meta score, the fan score and the importance of the game to the all ongoing zelda lore.
You could also make such a video for the respective opening sequences and intros
I love how you expect the American Link's Awakening trailer to be any less weird than the Japanese one!
As for order, if you're gonna play Link Between Worlds, (which you definitely should because it's amazing,) you must play Link to the Past FIRST, (which you also should because it's the BEST Zelda game ever!) It's about the only instance in the entire series where having played a previous game gives a much richer experience. And if you play Wind Waker, (HD ideally,) having played LttP first also adds several satisfying moments, but not nearly so crucial as with LBW.
I would love to see you do full play throughs of Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and Link’s Awakening.
If you have access to them, you should also record reactions to the intro and first dungeon of the NES Zelda games, Wind Waker, and some of the 2D games, just so you can experience the variety in the series. If you really like them, you can do full play throughs of your favorites.
The main games i'd recommend playing:
- Ocarina of time
- Majora's mask (not necessary for timeline stuff but really fun!)
- Wind Waker
- Twilight Princess
- Skyward Sword
(- Link to the past you can play on switch online they have an emulator)
I've played all of them (except Triforce Heroes, that never interested me). I'm nearly 37, so I grew up with these games.
In addition to watching the Majora's Mask trailer, he should check out the "Terrible Fate" short, may get him as on board the MM train as the rest of us fanatics
My favorite game of all time is twilight princess, so I would say play that game. It has a darker more serious vibe which is why I love it. It’s epic as hell, and has amazong bosses
That being said, OCarina of time, wind Waker, skyward sword, And Majora’s mask are amazing as well
Same. Twilight princess is my favorite as well.
Titles I would recommend-
Skyward Sword
Ocarina of Time (I recommend the original version, emulated, as the 3DS version is incredibly low res, though if you have a Virtual Console copy, or can get the Master Quest or Collector's Edition Gamecube disc, those are a great option.)
Majora's Mask (Same recommendation as Ocarina of Time)
WindWaker (Wii U version)
Twilight Princess (Wii U version)
A Link To The Past (this one is on SNES classics included with Switch's paid online).
These games I feel beat represent the series and the story the series is trying to tell. I recommend playing Skyward Sword first, as it is the first game in the timeline.
As for the timeline-
Skyward Sword begins the timeline
Time travel shenanigans in Ocarina of Time cause a 3 way split.
These are called the Adult, Child, and Downfall timelines.
The child timeline includes Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, in that order.
The Adult Timeline contains Wind Waker and it's direct sequels
The Downfall timeline includes A Link To The Past, and it's direct sequels, Legend of Zelda and Zelda II
There are games I haven't mentioned, and they all fit in either the 3 timelines or before the split.
No one knows where Breath of The Wild sits. Strongest evidence for one particular timeline IMO points to the child timeline, however it has enough evidence of all 3 to take place in any of them. Common hypothesis is Breath of the Wild is an eventuality in all timelines, and I tend to agree.
I love how much you’re getting into this.
Instead of trying to do it in “timeline order” (which isn’t really a thing, or at least not a thing that’s consistent between the games) you should have probably done it in terms of release date of the games.
As far as games to play, I’d suggest these, in this order: (trying to focus on essential experiences)
A link to the past
Link’s Awakening
Ocarina of time
Majora’s mask
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Link Between Worlds
Skyward Sword
Non-spoiler explanation of the different timelines.
In ocarina of time
If you die, then the games go down one timeline.
If you beat the game in one way then the games go down another timeline.
If you beat the game in the last way then the games go down the last timeline.
Basically.
Not exactly, one timeline is if you lose, one follows the post-ganon timeline after link goes back to the past, the last one follows child link after he prevents ganon from even starting his takeover
@@michaelbailey1242 I don't think you understood what "non-spoiler" means.

As someone who has adored zelda ever since I was young I’ll give you a quick tidbit:
•Minish cap: While not like top tier it has a cute story and is a personal favorite.
•ocarina of time:an absolute must play for all new and old zelda fans. It’s a classic and the one to like really shape zelda.
•Link’s awakening: playing it for the first time in the switch. The music alone is absolutely fantastic, it went so hard on the music and I can’t even begin to describe the beauty in it.
•A Link to the past: This one was what shaped my mom and uncles zelda experience. It’s like the classic of the 2D ones. A good play to get to the roots.
•Link between worlds: A really interesting story and kept me into the entire time.
•Oracle seasons/ages: this is the only zelda game I haven’t played yet ;-;
If anything to get the bulk of zelda experience from this batch play Ocarina definitely.
Ocarina of time Is the most acclaimed game of all time
With good reason. It changed everything.
Yeah because it was really good back then and people have been riding the blind nostalgia ever since. It aged really poorly, especially compared to all other 3D Zeldas. Like honestly, if you played Twilight princess, there's no reason to play Ocarina of Time again. Story is pretty much the same, but twilight princess has better items, better controls, much better dungeons, let's be honest here for a sec, OoTs Dungeons sucked. It was a breakthrough back then because it was the first 3D Zelda, but because it was the first 3D zelda it has a TON of issues that newer Zelda games don't have anymore. I appreciate it for what it did for the franchise, but i can't with a good conscience recommend someone else to play it "because it's so good". Because quite frankly, it's just not.
@@EskChan19 Zelda Ocarina Of Time was my first Zelda game because the only console I had in 2017 was a Nintendo 64, lmao
@Randy19 When you say things like "OoT's dungeons sucked", it tells me you probably just hate the game to be contrarian. You've decided it's more popular than you want it to be, so therefor everything about it is bad.
As someone who loves pretty much all Zelda games, OoT is one of the best. It still has solid gameplay, great and almost universally useful items, great music that is STILL used in other games, and some of best dungeon designs in the whole series. Pretty objectively. It only falters in the modern sphere in small ways, like kinda janky aiming, old visuals, overuse of menus in parts (boots), and really slow text-speed.
100% of which were fixed in the 3DS version.
Also, TP is amazing, one of my top-3, but like 70% of the items you get in TP are cool conceptually but absolutely useless past the dungeon you get them in, a couple of the dungeons are pretty looking but absolutely awful in design, and there's a ton of boring filler. The visuals, most of the dungeons being good/great, and the bits of excellent story/characters carry that game hard.
It's a fantastic game for it's time, and it's still good now, but it's not my favorite. In fact, I prefer Majora's Mask myself, but that's just an opinion.
oml i just realized
Hyrule - high
Lorule - low
Skyrule - a bit higher
U should play zelda a link to the past its the game that defined the Zelda series for me
Ocarina of time, majoras mask, windwaker, and twilight princess are absolute musts to play. There are many other great games but these four should serve as your staple core to start with. Of these, I can say windwaker was one of my favourites because of the open world and island exploration. I think you would like that
Ocarina of Time is still considered one of the best games ever made.
Love it. Majora's Mask which looks like you'll be seeing in part 2 is a sequel to OOT and is one of the most unique Zelda experiences. Love both games.
