Why the clk is on the list???
Just asking lol
@@Idontknowtohandle.2 if im not mistaken, the reason behind the CLK GTR creation is the McLaren F1. I read this from Car Throttle, when Mercedes wants to race in the GT1 class, they bought a used F1 GTR, put a Mercedes V12 engine, mule tested it, crashed it infact, get the data, rebuild the crashed F1 (and also put the BMW V12 back) and auction it to hide evidence, thus the birth of the CLK GTR
Correct me if im wrong
@@josaphatfebrianj.f_works2838
Slight correction.
The car was restored to its original condition in 2000 and sold.
If Mercedes really intends to hide its evidence, simply burning it to the ground would be better.
Tho, I don't really agree putting the CLK on the list tho. Cuz a huge number of manufacturers do the exact same thing. Bought rivals cars, studied it and sold it.
@@josaphatfebrianj.f_works2838 ok ty
thank god that it wasn't the real P1
About the a90....yeahhhh it's a pretty complicated topic. Bmw might have provided most of the parts but all of them were under Toyota influence(besides the software). Toyota was the one that guided bmw into making and changing the chassis and they also recalibrated the existing b58 engine to be more reliable. Honestly, i don't even care what it is, because it is a phenomenal vehicle. So why bother arguing? Just drive the damn thing!
Truest comm out there
it even drives better than the previous Supra

The Fiat 124 was not really a badge engineering exercise. The SEAT 124 was a license built model specifically for the, at the time, closed Spanish market.
The PolskiFiat 124 was actually built by Fiat as part of their investment in the Polish car industry (the 126 was also built by PolskiFiat) but the Fiat (and SEAT) production of the 124/125 had ended by this time and the tooling shipped to Poland.
All other markets were also license-built and not true badge engineered products.
12:30 I've seen this from time to time, here in Sweden, and the thing that perplexes my dad, is that even our "old" (mid 2000's) Skoda Fabia costs about as much as one of these.

Correction. Toyota does sell cargo Vans. Known as the Toyota hiace. There are cargo versions even freezer cargo versions.
“Make sure to argue with someone dummy than you” 😂
About the Cobra, I agree with the brits, despite Carrol Shelby being the mind behind the changes from the Ace to the Cobra, it was AC's work, it's like what happened with Astro's Playroom for PS5, the game is made by a team that's 99% japanese, but the director is french, so does that make the game french? I don't think so, so that makes the Cobra a true AC, which means a true british car.
I agree completely, been arguing for years on that. If it's all about the engine...half of the british sportscars of the eighties and nineties should've all just been called Rovers and almost all non maserati, ferrari and lambo cars from the sixties in italy would have been american (detomaso, iso, etc)
I like you man, always the truth and you're a realist, well done 👍

On the 3:20 mark regarding the Supra, it's really co-developed. Besides, an actual rebadge would have meant compromised driving dynamics.

The Toyota Supra isn’t trying to become a BMW, they just use a lot of parts from the z4 because it helped keep the cost down and they might have been better parts
They should've made a more hardcore version of the LC500 instead
@@TopCarsTV - not quite. Besides, people would have still complained anyway.
It is a BMW
It's one thing to use some parts for your car from other brands (especially when you own this brands like VW), but it's completly wrong to use 80% of other brand parts and call it new model. It's called coachbuilding, not producing new models. As we saw if Toyota wants to make some cool cars they can like with Toyota Yaris GRmN, but they just decided to not and make some profit from fans.
Coachbuilding is when you buy production ready parts from other companies and put in it your own body like Zagato, Pinninfarina and other coachbuilders. Toyota did same with Supra and that's why it's a shame
You aree amazing.
I have been watching your videos for a long time and i just lovee the content of yours.

9:52 I wanna make a correction about murat 124. Before mid 1990’s almost all Fiat products were sold under the name Tofaş (The name of the factory that has a partnership with Fiat and also produces maserati, jeep and alfa romeo). Because it was a more popular brand name here. So 124 and 131 got nicknamed murat to appeal turkish buyers. And fun fact the Murat 131 was rebaged in 1981 into 3 category for cars. Şahin (entry level), Doğan (“luxury” model) and kartal (station wagon). Got a facelift in 1988 and sold till 2002.

10:13 @TopCarsTV They do make cargo vans. Search up the toyota hiace. its a cargo van and in australia tradesman use them and they compete against other vans like the mitsubitshi express and mercedes v class.
In India hyundai sells the, here mentioned Accent as Verna... And the Accent was a different car... Which was then replaced by a newer model called the Xcent
Thanks for mentioning the obscure car manufacters and their wierd quadricycles (also i suggest you to google the old versions of quadricyles, they look goofy)

I work for an Opel dealership in Germany and we sell so many the rocks-e‘s but when you are scared of the cars here because you’re in a shoebox then you know that something is wrong
Also fun fact all the body panels are interchangeable with the one on the opposite side of the car and the doors open in different directions
I wish Toyota still sold the Hiace in Europe. There's even a (parody) song about it in Finland, it was that important to us.
In Germany those 45km/h Cars are realy popular. But also realy expensive. Starting at around 10-12k new, Up to nearly 20k
Fun fact:
There's a car called the AC 378 GT, its basically a modern cobra
Well, here in Germany we have a lot of these micro cars. And Piaggio is well known for the Ape, a little three wheeler, and the Vespa that has a (as i would say) actual cult behind it. I can´t imagine that they become popular in the US, too. Thats because you have younger drivers overall. Normally the youngest Drivers are about age 17 with a parent watching and 18 on your own, wich makes it a huge deal to drive it three to four years earlier. To own a car when most other kids in school dont even think about a moped or something. Also, given our narrow streets and short distances between villages and cities you can come around with these things pretty far, and they even become pretty handy in urban environment. Also they´re extremely cheap to own, you have no TÜV for them or high cost spare parts, not even noticable fuel costs, wich is a huge deal in europe. I hope this clears things up for why they aren´r especially rare on european streets. I personally don´t have one, but in my neighbourhood i know three people that have some.
When you're wondering....hmmm, regarding cars... is there "Something Else?" THEN....Topcars TV puts this video out and brings Education, Humor, and Cars you have never heard of. BRILLIANT!
The only thing Toyota did to the BMW Supra was giving it a Toyota badge.
Nope, not quite the whole story.
And the body, and the suspension tune, also they made the chassis with BMW
So no, they didn't just give it a Toyota badge
You're great,brother 😎
When I first saw this McLaren at Goodwood I thought it was a mistake to call it a P1, the front is 100% 650s, only the rear looks like a P1, but not quite.
i cant remember anyone saying that the AC Ace was anything but british. If you really want to see fur fly, the ford GT40 is just a Lola mk6 evo ;)
True, except for the GT40 Mk IV which won LeMans in 1967 and had an American chassis.
Cobra is British. It just used an American heart.
Hi, beside the FIAT124/ Lada an other channel named eds auto rewiew said the opel kadett(Germany)/ vauxhall chevette(uk) of the 70s was the most rebaged car. Some sort of the first "world car".
Hey mate, what do you think bout the ruvelto? Is it disappointing?
It's ok. I still prefer the Sian though
@TopCarsTV hey, always wanted to catch a fresh upload to talk about the new Countach. I think you've missed its point, it's not supposed to be a revival, like you assumed in one of your videos. It is a tribute, to the original, PRE riced from factory Countach.
Granted, it being based on an old platform is another topic, but the essence itself is not "Countach if it was made today".
And about the whole asking a crapload of money for a rebodied car is nothing new, a lot of high end manufacturers do that, it's literally modern coach building. You can make a video about that
@@TopCarsTV Wtf! Really! You replied to me again! Do you remember on which topic did we have our last conversation?

3) Mercedes CLK GTR - Mercedes developed CLK GTR with McLaren F1 chassis as their reference. Well, they are copying McLaren F1 chassis technology & tweaked it for CLK GTR.
the thing with the cobra is that in old interviews with Shelby he recalls that even though the chaise was made by SC in Brittan then shipped to America where Shelby would fit the ford engines he recalls the amount of modifications that had to be done to make it handle the way it did and fit the big 427s that Shelby was putting in there he says and I quote by the time we where finished with the modifications to the chaises there was not a nut or bolt that was there when it got off of the plane from Brittan the interview is here on TH-cam i recommend watching it is very interesting so in conclusion the Shelby cobra was more American than it was British
Was that only for the first ever Shelby Cobra or every single one?
From my research, he did modify the first chassis a lot, but then all those mods were applied to all future ones in England before shopping.
@@TopCarsTV mostly for the mk2 and 3 the first one i believe they only put 383s in them witch did not need very much if any modification to make the engine fit but Shelby never wanted to make a 427 cobra he was pushed into making ones with 427s mainly the mk3 and some mk2s

I do have to say one thing about ladas and fiat 124s, for the fiat to be sold as a lada they re-engineered a lot of the suspension to handle the russian roads, mainly make every part thicker and stiffer and more durable, made a new engine on wich both fiat and lada had their hands in making and they removed some of the fiats luxuries ( this is mainly about the russian and ussr market ladas, the exported ones had more luxury items installed from the dealers)

Just the story of CLK GTR is more stunning
The Supra / Z4 twins are not build on a BMW assembly Line, they are build by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria
Magna Steyr is a factory with many assembly lines. Models that are simillar are built on the same asesmbly line, like Supra + Z4 + 5-Series. Meanwhile, Jaguar I-Pace is assembled on a different line.

The Aixam and other similar mopeds in cars' skin count as mopeds in other European countries as well, only one needs an actual moped license to legally drive them. As for me, almost 14 year old me liked the idea for about half an hour, then I thought, I'd rather wait the extra few years to get a real license and drive an actual car with some actual cargo space and more seats.
I didnt know Cobra’s were still being made.
It would be cool if Bmw/toyota made a special edition Supra G100 with an engine from a G80 M4 with a bodykit and an Akropovic exhaust with titanium tips
I’m gonna be honest, the M5 has always been heavy. The E39 and F90 are only a few hundred pounds apart, and the E39 itself has a weight comparable to the minimum 2015 F150 weight.
I gotta say the Supra is one of the only examples of the badge-engineered car being better than the car it's based on. Mostly due to looks. They're on the same chassis, yet the Z4 looks bloated and bulky, while the Supra looks sharp and slim.
Agreed. But imagine how good it would've been if it was based on the Lexus LC500
I don't understand the toxic hate towards toyota supra. There are lots of rebadged cars, sportscars too, but the Supra is attacked one. Why don't people hate Fiat 124 Abarth, which is Mazda Miata? Or Chrysler 300, which is a Mercedes? Or first gen Audi R8, which is Lamborghini Gallardo? (by the way the R8 has more stylish and modest design, and is cheaper than the Lamborghini twin, which makes it one of my favorite cars)
Because for the Supra, everyone's offended about it.
Or the Jaguar X-Type, which is a Ford Mondeo (Fusion for Americans) with less luggage space...
I believe that Toyota USA actually uses the "A90/A91" code to advertise the supra tho
Toyota was using the A90 for marketing purposes since the car was still in camouflage
Honorable mentions
Crossfire - SLK
Cygnet - Toyota IQ
CLK GTR - McLaren F1 GTR
The Aixam costs considerably more than $1000 - they retail from €13000…
The Supra being a BMW has to make it one of the best looking BWM's ever made at least in the last 10 years
M2 CS was pretty good
