2-8-4s on the C&O, NKP and PM were designed for fast freight service but were used in passenger service on occasion. 70 out of 90 C&O 2-8-4s, along with 15 out of 80 NKP 2-8-4s were actually built by ALCO. Great video!
Perhaps not as detailed as some of the other offerings, but let me tell you what the Bachmann has that the others don't: *it runs, guaranteed!* I have had more troubl with Broadway LtD, MTH and so many others, but to this day Bachmann's locos run...and run...and keep running!
Great review! FYI it’s pronounced “Ka-Gnaw.” My dad grew up along the Kanawha River in West Virginia, he would tell me stories about seeing steam engines like this when he was a kid.
Very nice locomotive! I often see these listed in the Micro-Mark catalogs and usually listed either side of $200 depending on what kind of sale they are having!
I just bought me one today at a train show! Can’t wait to run it!

This is so true!!! I 100% agree. I feel my Bachmann trains will never stop
Great review! A couple notes: the whole assembly is called "valve gear", and the C&O used these engines on both passenger and freight trains.

Thank you so much!!! I literally had no idea
How well can it navigate 18 inch curves?
It actually can navigate them pretty well. My layout is mostly 18 inch with some 22 inch on thr outer edge and I haven't had a problem yet!
@@connorandjimsvillerailroad thanks I'll probably buy one then

Same here. It was really nice to get it for almost for free. I wish I still had my 2-8-8-4 but I really like this locomotive so its ok!
@@connorandjimsvillerailroad yeah, it would have been great seeing that 2-8-8-4 but that C&O Berk is still a great piece!
What's the pulling power like on it?
Is this remote control engine?i have one but doesn’t wan to run maybe is the transformer I’m use?
Yes, must have dcc controller
It’s actually a Kanawha locomotive
Great review Conner, thanks for sharing
Thank you very much! Sorry I haven't been reviewing as much. Glad to be back at it
Cool steam locomotive
