I just acquired 40+ rivarossi locomotives including a big boy. I live in Littleton Colorado. This video was a huge help in understanding how these locomotives work. Thank you!!
@@classicmodeltrains We'll be in the neighborhood sometime between July 29th to Aug ? (whenever we decide to drive home). Last conversation about the trip with wife, we'll most likely get a room somewhere in Billings and spend a night. A little too far from Hamilton to drive back and forth in one day, at least for us old folks.
Candace Bergen. On train between Chicago and Minneapolis as I type. Great video. As I do I have a Rivorossi Pacific I have yet to disresemble :)! Thanks Ron!
@@classicmodeltrains train ride was interesting. Though the real fun began in Spokane. Love the restoration work Ron. My lovely lady says " You watch Classic Model Train videos way too much." and my reply is always, No, no. I watch "Just a liitle less than too much". Another great vid.

I have personal history with NKP 765. Grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana where 765 sat on display for many years having been renumbered 767. I went to Wayne High School (class of ‘75) and one of my teachers, Walter Sassmanshausen, was instrumental in forming the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society who took on the task of restoring 765 into running condition for excursions. In 1990, I have early VHS video of an excursion on 765 from Fort Wayne, to Peru, Indiana with my wife, 5 year old son, and my late Uncle. My Grandfather, Clement Meyer, was a brakeman for many years out of Fort Wayne and I’m trying to figure out if he worked for NKP ( and possibly with 765) or more likely the Pennsy. I currently live in northeast Tennessee and am planning my first layout to be based in part on the yard in Ft Wayne with Nickel Plate and Pennsylvania gear and also the “Tweetsie” ( ET&WNC) a locally important railroad. These videos have helped me immensely! Thanks so much!

Unfortunately the front is pretty mangled, all the front detail bits are missing besides the front lamps. i suspect from poor storage from the previous owner, also has a loose wheel that occasionally binds the mechanism, yeah my unit is in some serious need of rebuilding before it hits the rails again. I have it packed away with most of my collection now. Be a few months before i even take it out again, then i will go ahead and see what i can do to bring it back like this one. Most of my engines need parts donors when they break down, oh well the joy of being a display operator! Cool Video -KJP
As someone that is from Lima, the real NKP 779 resides in Lincoln Park in Lima, OH as a display along with a NKP wood caboose and a NKP Dynamometer car. NKP 779 was the last steam locomotive made by the Lima Locomotive Works, and it was preserved by the Allen County Museum as a static display. As far as preserved NKP Berks around, there are about six of them preserved with NKP 765 operating as mentioned by yourself. Also, I wanted to mention that anyone needs a replacement motor for Rivarossi steam locomotives to look up CV-Backshop (not affiliated with seller) for replacement motors. The motor kits will fit Rivarossi and Mantua locomotives along with some other manufactures. Also, as usual, another great video to watch. PS: I agree with the one poster about the pronunciation of Lima. It's like the name of the bean, and the town has a mascot of a Lima Bean.
Thanks for that great info. Glad to hear there are 6 more cosmetically restored!! I've used CV-Backshops motors. I'm quite happy with them. LIE-Ma....Got it :-)

Nice job on the restoration! I despise cleaning the decades old gunk out of Rivarossi gearboxes (I’ve had to do so about half a dozen times), but it’s totally worth it to hear those brass gears growl
the rivarossi locomotives have great detail but are to light,i have an 0-8-0 rivarossi steam loco that just cant seem to pull more than 5 cars, love the chanell Ron
Twas a dark and stormy night... Thunder, lightning and squeaky doors! That sound crew you got sure knows how to make realistic sound effects! Berkshire's are pretty neat. I'm debating on getting Lionels Polar express Berkshire either in S or HO. Some day I will make it to Michigan to see the real 1225 engine as well as it's new partner the 175. My favorite steam engine is the Southern Crescent #4501, the last of its class, MS. It still runs on the Tennessee Valley Railroad. My wife & I are to soon take a ride on her. It's also my favorite HO scale engine. There's a picture of Johnny Cash waving out of the engineers window. The MS class was a 2-8-2 Mikado. Ron, LOVE your videos. However, having been born and raised just north of Lima, Ohio I need to let you in on a little secret. It is pronounced like lima beans...lIma...with a long 'I'...not like Lima, Peru...lEma. Definately going to bid on this though...it would mean a lot to be the winner. Do you have an N&W 611? I have two and may gift one to ya. Keep up the great videos...always watching out for them and love them so much! Blessings!!!
Lima? Lie-ma... Got it. It's amazing how the towns are pronounced different than one would think. Guess it's a good way for the locals to tell who's from out of town. I do not have a N&W 611. Streamlined 4-8-4? A Feller sent a S.P. 4454 daylight special by Bachmann (Lionel) but it has broken axles that are hard to find. Thanks for your kind words on my video's and supporting my channel :-)
It's kind of like a friction bushing or a replaceable wear surface on the end of the worm gear. When the worm gear is turning either forward or reverse it wants to be shoved out of the assembly from force being applied to it from the drive gear its turning. The bushings on the worm gear shaft of course hold the shaft in place, and the trust washers are in-between helping to keep the shaft in place and helping to reduce friction.
And .my rivarossi Berkshire nickel plate road not.working too good now and it will start on my ho track. And. I try too fix it and it still working out to good
I do not. Only articulated ones I have is the Big Boy and the Mallet. Also Now I'm not sure if its pronounced like that funny dance with people in tu-tu's "Ballet" or like a type of hammer "mallet". Perhaps I'll just use Y6a :-)
Every Riverossi steam loco I’ve come across has been noisy. The running gear has a tendency to bind, stick, or needed to be retimed, re-quartered. New or used. They are beautiful model trains, and eventually in the right hands do run nice, just expect more for the price point.
After reading this post I had to go back to the Google machine and do more research. I figured since it was named after that French Feller, and the Pere always has that weird extra apostrophe looking thing, I was supposed to make a "Pierre" sound. Well Sir I owe you a beer. Thank you for making me one more smarter by sharing this good information. Seems if there is something out there I can mispronounce I will do it :-)

Candice Bergen. Would a sonic vibrating cleaner filled with Walmart Jewelry Cleaner work for cleaning train parts?
That would be a killer combination for sure!!
Is that loco number 622 or 779? looks strangely off centre on the rear of the tender
This loco has been sold off long ago so I cant remember what number it had. sorry.
Nice
Thanks
@@classicmodeltrains No problem love your videos
Why is the one motor brush is Copper screen?
it was to be self cleaning of the motors commutator !
Is that why they did that? Guess it works :-)
WAT IS. the pupose of the thrust washers
I got a tender for one, but i lost the nut, and it didn't have the engine
Uh Oh!
And .my rivarossi Berkshire nickel plate road not.working too good now and it will start on my ho track. And. I try too fix it and it still working out to good
Well I hope this video will help you out getting it running again
Just a update on the name It's pronounced ( Berk - Shear ) on the B&O.. through the Berkshire's
If it can be mispronounced I will do it. Thanks for the good info!!
@@classicmodeltrains lol most times me also..great Videos. Not only very informative, but very fun to watch. Thank you.
You wouldn't have an SP AC9 would you??????
I agree with the noise but I guess I've been lucky and have not had bad or bend running gears (knock on wood) :-)
33 percent
Thank you
Candice Bergen
Pere-Marquette pronounced "PAIR MARKETTE" if you are interested?????
After reading this post I had to go back to the Google machine and do more research. I figured since it was named after that French Feller, and the Pere always has that weird extra apostrophe looking thing, I was supposed to make a "Pierre" sound. Well Sir I owe you a beer. Thank you for making me one more smarter by sharing this good information. Seems if there is something out there I can mispronounce I will do it :-)
The C & O's were "KA--NAWS" not KANAHWAS Don't feel bad no one gets the name right!!!
The Wikipedia page gave me the spelling. I cant argue because I'm not from that neck of the woods :-)
If your hearing was as good as your dogs' hearing, then you'd want to avoid listening to thunder, too....
Great point you have there Sir!
Berkshire is pronounced "Berk-shere"!
:-)
Always learn something, enjnoy your mannerisms, like beard and hair trims. RF
Thanks!
