Painted up a box of these for A War Transformed. Wish this video had come out before I did it! Kitbashed with Frostgrave barbarian set to give them AWT vibes. Regimental bands on cuffs add a touch of colour.
Wow! You weren't kidding when you said this would be up soon! It looks great, and fairly straightforward to do. The flowers on the base add a nice little splash of visual interest. I've got daffodils on my Market Garden British Airborne, but for these guys I think I'm going to go with poppies instead, for the thematic reference.
My brain keeps trying to tell me that the uniform is green. I think I’m going to give this a try for my Krieg! Always love your paint schemes so simple but looks so so good!
Great box and paint job. I recently received a box of these and am kitbashing them with WA zombies, lots of possibilities and good fun. Plenty of potential and interesting basing options with mud and zombie arms bodies and heads poking out of the slime. I always enjoy your videos. Regards Lexi
Another nice product from WGA, WWI 's soldiers are easier to paint than WWII 's ones, there wasn't a lot of variations in colours. From what I know the camo helmets became widespread only in the last part of the conflict. Now on the market are arriving also the MGs squads, with a lot space for conversions.
Another great video from The Sledge! Thank you. The only thing I could critique would be the base: I don't think bright flowers are appropriate. A thick slimy mud base with a piece of barbed wire behind him to emphasize the trench warfare aspect of the period would be more befitting, IMO.. But keep crank'm out. 👊🏼
There's plenty of combat that took place out of the trenches and in some fairly lush, fresh growth. Check out the '100 Days Offensive' that closed out the war - there was loads of maneuver and combat across open ground. Makes for some great late-war gaming where you don't need to bury a whole board in mud and trenches!
This is the best Krieg I mean WWI historical miniatures. I can't tell you how much I love Wargames Atlantic. Every time i watch their products get painted it reminds me to go out and look for what is new. Great video!
Another brilliant paint job. I really love these WW1 figures. Great explanation on painting techniques and the colours used together with an explanation based on detailed uniform research. This is really useful as a guide and as an inspiration. Any chance of an early war German with the brighter green uniforms and picklehaube? Also early war Russians would be great too. More historic minis please!
The plan is to get through all the major belligerents eventually. Russians are definitely on the list soon, with Imperial Japan and the United States to come as well, before getting to the early Great War period with the smarter German tunics and bright red French madder trousers.
Been on a bit of a video binge of yours while I recover from a pinched nerve with the associated numbness to get my hobby fix, and I've loved looking at all the WW2/Guard videos to get ideas for my own Guard - I do have a bit of a question regarding the use of Marine Juice/Sonic Tonic however - I also have a Blood Angels force I need to paint up in future, and I was wondering if you would use "standard" Sonic Tonic for those or if you'd use one of the other wash mixtures to shade them? I also remember learning how to use it for tanks at a FW Masterclass from Mark Bedford and Phil Stucinskas way back when too (in the old Badab Black/Devlan Mud days!)
Marine Juice works great over red. I wouldn't see any use in changing it up when it also works for the gold, any purity seals and such. No need to reinvent the wheel a sixth time! 😂
I would have loved to see one painted without mask, as I like the bodies but I'm skeptical about the maskless heads bc they look very wide and disproportionate in the WA pictures. Normally your videos give me a more accurate idea about the mini than any other picture. Great video as always anyway. BTW, if you have the minis, would you consider doing a tutorial for painting miniatures with visible gambesons, like the Perry Miniatures english and french 100 year wars soldiers? I find the gambesons very hard to highlight, as they have so many tiny crevices and folds.
If it helps, the bare heads and faces look more or less like the French and British infantry figures I've painted as well. The steel helmets tend to make them look a little chubbier than they are, whereas the older covered pickelhaube don't look quite as squat. They're fine, though!
Loving it, try painting models from Trench Crusade, lots of troops are inspired by ww1/medieval/napoleonic Germans such as Prussian Gardekorps, who use antitank...swords...yep cant get more metal than that.
Yup. Only what you can get in stores these days. It's part of why the Tonic's been adjusted so regularly over the last couple of years - every sod keeps changing their shade and wash recipes! 😅
It's a different colour, mostly. 😅 I still use Aly's Brown Liquid on things like 8th Army and other stuff I want to have a more brown-tinted finish. The Tonic's more useful as a general purpose wash.
Might be a question to put to Google. 😜 But off the top of my head there's Through the Mud and Blood, Contemptible Little Armies, Blood and Valor, or there's Bolt Action rules conversions that're well-liked too!
The figure sculpt looks great and the painting is excellent! Thanks for sharing this.
Oh, awesome. Been procrastinating on painting a bunch of these, and your guide for the Poilou were excellent, so...
Outstanding! Also perfect timing as I've just started work on a Forbidden Psalms: The Last War project. Thanks!
Love the details on the model

Another thoroughly enjoyable video , thank you. I notice that you shied away from painting Gott Mit Uns on his belt buckle....😂
He's lucky enough to have gotten his belt buckle painted at all! 😂
😂😂😂😂

@@SonicSledgehammerStudiothank you sir for the reply👍🏼 And of all the tutorials b from others, you're the best!
Fantastic video, great guide. Just what I need as I'm starting on The Last War atm. Nice one!!
Oh lovely stuff, ta - have had a box of these staring guiltily at me for a while now....

It does look like a Krieger funny enough.
it's almost as if ww1 is where forgeworld got their inspiration from
Late to the party but great video!
I think I'm going to join the weirdo underground of people trying to reconfigure the public consciousness around gaming the Great War. ;D
Great video, as always.

I liked the pencil ✏️ it was a nice bonus highlight
Looks sharp!

I bet he's happy he's attacking thru green fields and not a mud crater nightmare

just when I thought I had all the German Camo Browns … missing Pale !!

I did a couple of Trench Crusade videos fairly recently. Just gotta scroll back!
For Sonic Tonic, I assume you are using the newer shade formulation for Reikland? (Not the older bottles which stain a bit more)
Yup. Only what you can get in stores these days. It's part of why the Tonic's been adjusted so regularly over the last couple of years - every sod keeps changing their shade and wash recipes! 😅
@@SonicSledgehammerStudiohah! Well, I think I’ll try it out!

Oh nice been looking at savage worlds weird war 1 but I’m not sure I can sell my friends to play a long game somewhat depressing.
Neat but is there a ww1 game?

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio i did know bolt action now if I could just find people local who would be interested in WW1 gaming.
Sweet a gasmasked soldier
First?!
It would appear so
