    Thanks for the great video, I moved me to get one of these, which I did today. It's HUGE luggage space wise and I like it that very much. Again, thanks for the great demonstration video 👍

    I have the same carrier for years now and it's great. I bought it on sale, new, for half price. The only tedious thing about installing it is that it takes awhile. There could be more keys given and the lock should be able to close unlocked without having to leave the key in.

    • @Canadarago
      @Canadarago 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve had one for many years. Think they made the lock that way so that the unit has to be locked when it’s closed - wind forces might possibly blow it open while the vehicle is in motion if it were unlocked. Also dopes like me lose keys.

    I paid full price for mine back in the day... But has worked flawless for 17 years. Those other holes are merely for adjusting the clamps for cross bars that do not move that is all. Tape is only needed if you move the clamps and seal the holes from dirt, dust, weather from getting in while underway. ...

    Bought one back in March for my trip to Tennessee, the only issue I encountered was when it's empty or not enough weight it does shake a lot,everything is connected per manufacturers spec/guide.

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are the cross rails tight? We were on vacation in July and ours was empty the whole week. We only heard a rattle one time and that was due to a bolt in the cross rail loosening. We tightened that bolt and didn't have any more issues.

    • @mikeroberson1658
      @mikeroberson1658 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jeff Furr Everything is tight.I think it's more 2 do with the wind that goes underneath the carrier I find when we are traveling on an elevated road or its very windy it really shakes and rattle, opening the sunroof deflects the air and stops the shaking.

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Roberson that makes sense. Maybe the carrier sets higher on top of some cars. Hard to say what the difference is.

    I got to get a key for the one I picked up from the junk yard . I traded some scrap stuff and gave them 20 dollars . I have to fix one of the arms or hinges . I would suggest a folding 2 step stool aluminum deal . I took one of these to the Junk Yard for accessing it . I plan to make a small trailer with a top frame to attach this to . I have a roof rack on the truck I by the grace of God Finished about a month ago .

    The concave brackets that sit on top of the crossbars....seems like reversing them to have the flat side sit on the crossbars would keep keep from damaging them when tightening and the rail side would rest against the metal plate under the carrier?? Any advice? I know video is old.

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, I haven't seen a speed rating anywhere. I googled it too and I didn't see a rating. My experience is that we haven't had any issues with the carrier in heavy rain, clear weather and even on windy days and I have traveled at 70 MPH with no issues.

    • @ascsu98
      @ascsu98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the quick reply. I was wondering if it can handle bursts of 85+.

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When I was traveling at 70+ I was on an interstate and all traffic flowing with me. I've passed big trucks before which added wind gusts but I'm not sure I can give you more than a guess on that one. I've never felt uncomfortable with hauling this carrier at all. I guess you could throw a strap across the top for added comfort

      Avi S Going too fast is less of a danger than (1) traveling with it empty, or (2) having to stop suddenly when it’s overloaded. Instructions state never to go above 40mph without a load inside.

    What's the dimensions of this box?

  • @charlied904
    @charlied904 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an suv with flush side rails and crossbars meaning the cross bars are the only things I can attach a roof cargo unit to. Will that work with this or do you need raised side rails as well?

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This attaches to the cross bars, it has four clamps that attach

  • @rwilliams98
    @rwilliams98 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the spacing between the crossbars? My car has crossbars, but they are not movable.

    • @ViperST989
      @ViperST989 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's multiple holes drilled in the carrier itself. Just don't attach any hardware until you're sure you have good positioning of the carrier on the cross rails. I ordered crossrails myself and adjusted them and the carrier to make it fit. I have the carrier as far back on our van as possible. Let the van create the slipstream for the carrier.

    Great video thanks for posting it. Can you tell me the length and width of this unit? Thanks

    • @TheFurrminator
      @TheFurrminator  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I appreciate that. Here are the dimensions that I found on the Internet for this unit 67”L x 34”W x 20.7”H
      Hope the carrier works well for you, worked great for us

    • @drott150
      @drott150 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFurrminator Thanks for the response. But I believe those dimensions are for a newer version of your carrier. I believe your older version (with the same model number) is a little shorter and wider than the dimensions you looked up on the internet (which I saw before as well). But for the life of me I cannot find out what the actual dimensions are for the specific model shown in your video. The reason it's important is I have to leave room for a roof fan on my van and even just a few inches shorter than the newer version makes all the difference. That's why I'm asking. Thanks again for the reply.
