Is it pluasable that there is enough space that a person could possibly close the tailgate ON the keyfob and essentially lock themselves OUT of the vehicle? Just wondering.

I have a 2015 JK Rubicon, tailgate latch is stuck. I tried pulling on the metal lever from the inside of the tailgate. Won't open. I can't fix it if I can't open it. Any ideas?
I installed a new tailgate latch mechanism because the old one's plastic cam that engages the heavy metal body rail was worn out. Surprise! when the door will no longer open! I discovered that the new door latch mech had slightly different tolerances so I had to bend (thus straighten and lengthen) the short actuator rod with the green and plastic clips.
Yet another example of the poor build quality of Jeeps. I own two JKs, a 2011 and a 2015 and this issue has occurred numerous times with both of them. It's a shame that Jeep isn't owned by Honda or Toyota or a Korean company. Asians build cars so much better than Americans do. Quality control at Jeep in the USA is crap.
