Great topic and conversation. As it comes to lust and anger, in my own sexual healing journey, through introspection, prayer and meditation, I’ve come to realize how and where it became idolatry. I’ve pinpointed the event when body parts became the object of my desire and that person was no longer a person. I had ceased to see women as the creation God intended them to be. Now with this new information I can begin to reconstruct and focus on God being my true desire.
This was such an insightful and helpful conversation. I think as Christians there is so much shame around acknowledging sexual desire and a lack of really looking at desire and what it is communicating about ourselves as a whole person. Thank you for also affirming the connection between anger and sexual violence and the importance of taking responsibility for the damage that we do in the process of really looking at these things. I experienced that quite a bit in my previous marriage and it’s not talked about much in the church.
❤️ Great Video. Parts I liked best- 35:36 the connection between anger and lust 39:09 the connection between the lack of healthy habits /self care with destructive escapism, addictions, and avoidance behaviors (I relate to this; not with porn but with online shopping) 43:26 ❤ love this quote
Sent this to my husband and I hope he listens to it. Because that part of choosing things that affirm a negative identity is something he's done and might struggle with.
The women struggling with the violent fantasies/intrusive thoughts could also be blessed by reading pages 122-123 of Emily Nagoski’s book, the section titled “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.” I think many of these struggles arise from anxiety manifesting in unwanted thoughts. Emily explains it beautifully, and tells how to get help. (I find that playing with a stress ball brings great relief!)
PS I loved this episode! Such a sensible and compassionate way of looking at addiction, without in the least minimizing the addict’s responsibility for dealing with his issues!
Intense, sadly the amount of fear that is real, keeps most near silent. Church is mostly SILENT. SO, If we are made in the image of God..our sexuality could be amazing, those wounds should be seen.
