    This video was really helpfull! Thank you so much for making this video. I was cleaning the brewgroup for the first time (my husband usually does that), but I couldn't get the brewgroup to get back in the machine. After I saw your video and watcht it again step by step I managed to do it. Now I didn't have to make a fool out of myself by asking my husband to help me. He'll be really surprised I didn't just clean it, but that I'd even greased the components.

    Thank you so much for this! I was given a Saeco Talea Giro Plus from a friend that NEVER cleaned or lubed it. I don't know how old this machine is, but he used it daily and WOW was it gross! I can't believe it still works. 😆 I cleaned it with you and the lube is on order! Thanks again!!

    Thank you, so happy to see this. The condition of the is brew group is like my brew group. I’ve followed the manufacturer cleaning instructions to just rinse the brew group. I was shocked to how the coffee built up in the factory grease and then the instructions say to add grease every few months🤯 So I didn’t grease it didn’t make sense for the amount of coffee build up after having a manual coffee machine. Now I feel confident I can clean all that build up and re greasing now makes sense. I had been worried that the manufacture felt maybe properly cleaning would damage stuff and I was trusting the manufacturers instructions. Your video makes sense to me in the knowledge of having worked professionally with coffee and coffee machines both as a job and in my home. Time to give the brew group a detail clean🤩👍

      When you're doing a weekly rinse, you use cold water and no soap to keep the grease in place. When you are going to do a full clean and re-grease, then using hot water / brush / a little soap helps get rid of the crusted coffee grinds. (Soap might not be great for the rubber. I only grease mine 3-4 times a year so a little soap then won't kill it.)

    Does only original lubricant have to be used, e.g. PHILIPS HD5061, or can it be any of those offered by coffee machine stores or possibly another? Alternatively, can you specify what other lubricant would be suitable? The original one is expensive and there is very little of it in the package.
    If I drink, for example, 4 coffees a day, and the brewing block says lubrication every 500 coffees, it turns out that I should lubricate it approximately every 4 months. Will the period between lubrication be too long?
    Please reply.

      We use "Petrol Gel" a food base equipment grease from Amazon...it's cheap and works great. Comes in a pack of 2 and should last a lifetime, it doesn't take much to lube brew unit.

  • @geodynamik
    @geodynamik 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good video, thanks for showing the motion of the unit. I've been wondering how that works for a long time.
    I haven't added grease since I brought the Saeco machine 7 years ago. About 4 to 6 cups of coffee per day. I use fairly oily coffee though, so it may add its own lubrication. I also don't use detergent when rinsing as instructed by the manual, so this probably has served to preserve the manufacturers grease, and the natural oils from the bean as lubricants. I also think the need for grease is probably over stated by Saeco as another warranty voiding claim they can make. It's a fairly heavy grease, and this isn't a spinning mechanical which would require heavier greases. But after a good scrubbing clean like yours with detergent, I would still add the grease as you show. But I don't think it's required every month. Maybe ever 3 months to 1 year if overly worried about it.
    My oily coffee may have killed the original bean grinding unit, but the replacement grinder has been working fine for the last 4 years with the same oily bean. If I'm going to have a machine like this, Im not going to go settle for only brands that have dry beans like the manual requires. I imagine a lot of the flavour comes from the oil in those beans as well.

    • @geniusequipment
      @geniusequipment  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there,
      There are different reasons why the machine may be leaking,
      Some of the main ones are a broken boiler connector or a gasket that need replacement.

      Sometimes the drain gets clogged. To check if this is the case on your machine remove the brew unit, you should see a piston with 2 orange o-rings inside of an opening in the main part of the machine. In that opening (bottom left corner, towards front) there's a hole that drains into the drip tray (front of machine). Use your finger initially to feel inside the opening at the bottom left corner. If there's coffee sludge or build up this will cause water to leak under the machine and sometimes inside the brew unit tray. Simply remove the build up using pipe cleaner, toothpick etc. Rinse repeatedly with water until drain opening is clear. This should probably be checked monthly depending in usage. Hope this helps.

      Always important to lube if you want to avoid plastic wear. Grease is cheap... A brew group is not.
      If the brew group does not move smoothly, it could block the machine in a position where you could not remove the brew group easily. And believe me, you don't want to try that !

    anyhow, is this mold thing a normal condition for this saeco machine? is it a common problem on all similar machines? (I believe not, it seems the saeco design is poor in this area and allows water accumulation in multiple points which then leads to mold :( sad! I feel like returning my equipment.

    I'm sorry but this is a dumb video. No one is going to spend 20 minutes scrubbing down the brew group like that every week. The manual indicates cleaning it under water every week and greasing it every 2 months, so probably a good scrubbing and greasing it once a month would be more than good enough. Using q-tips to apply grease so vigorously will probably also leave some fibers along the tracks that get lubricated for movement, not a good thing I would guess.

    • @JayHostan
      @JayHostan 2 ปีที่แล้ว
