I hope you’ll keep doing more tutorials on how to start songs from scratch to finish that would be awesome just ordered a MPC key 61 can’t wait to have it
Very helpful in understanding how each level relates to each other. I love my mpc 61 but was having trouble understanding how to build a song. Thanks for the awesome and informative video.
Waiting for mine to be delivered so I’ve been devouring your videos! Thank you for all the time and effort you’ve been putting on making them! Many videos on the MPC Key 61 tend to focus on how fast you can build a 4 bar loop. Now, I love a 4 bar loop as much as the next man but… it not only gets old fast but mostly feels like having a 6 gears sports car only to be driving it in 1st gear all the time! This video does a great job at explaining the structure and hierarchy of the several elements that compose a project but… could you please take it to the next level and show the best practices and methods to put a full (multi part) song up? Thanks in advance and please keep these tutorials coming.
Very clear and helpful! One question: does the MPC Key 61 have Song Tracks that span the entire project, on top of the sequences? My old ensoniq synths had this feature - it was good for adding solos or other parts that you don’t want to chop up into sequences. I could see it being really good for audio tracks too.
Thank you for your knowledge. My question is if you have your song parts on different sequences ( example your verse on one sequence and chorus on another sequence) how do you play the complete song?
Hi Douglas! Your videos are very informative, helpful, and enjoyable. It seems we have the same appreciation for this keyboard. I purchased this amazing keyboard thinking I would use it for mainly samples. A little background of what I'm trying to do. I envisioned sampling many sounds, sound effects, and vocal harmonies for a solo thing I'd like to do. I have an external sequencer (Roland MC-80 with a huge catalog of songs. Since the sampling capabilities of the Akai are more advanced and more up to date than the Kurzweil K2600XS I use now, not to mention much lighter, I thought I would be able to trigger sound and vocal samples throughout the songs, but it seems like it is not capable of receiving multiple channels of MIDI, since there does not seem to be any way of sending MIDI program changes for multiple channels. I hope I'm making sense. Anyway, could you please correct me if I'm wrong, and if I am, is there any way that you could make a video showing how one would go about running a setup like this? I would appreciate it very much! Thank you and keep up the great work on these videos! Thank you!
Thank you very muvh for all your precious videos !! Im totally new to the MPC world. When you load a drum programs, is it not possible to edit the seperate elements in just one track ? Do we have to duplicate as much tracks as separate element ? But maybe it's still confusing for me because I hope that there is the possibility to edit (add effects to) each element of a drum program when it is loaded (like in Maschine for instance) BEFORE making the track (??) Thanks in advance for your answers
I’m not clear of the relationship between the program and a plug-in. Should one match program 1 with track one, program 2 with track 2 and so forth? Doesn’t it do it automatically? Could you explain it by comparing it to tracks and plug-ins in Logic x? I get my MPC tomorrow so I’m exited haha
Hi Douglass, I’m new to the Akai mpc 61 and am learning a lot from your vids. My question is, you can only have 8 unique tracks to your song? If they are all assigned a different plugin, there are only 8 plugins allowed- so you can only have 8 different sounding tracks? Thanks!
Thanks!Yes, that’s correct. You can have multiple tracks leveraging the same plugin program, but unless you convert one to an audio track to free it up, you can only have 8 unique plugin program sounds. Hope that helps!
@@DSoundman So, for example, Fabric XL has 1200 sounds. So I can have 8 unique Fabric XL sounds for each sequence, or 8 unique sounds for the entire project?
There're still so many thinks I haven't figured out but on the other hand I still haven't really spend much time on my MPC Key. Is there a way to access a recorded sample directly from internal disc? I would like to use the sampler for making a performance recording and then copy that file onto the plugged in USB drive. Is it possible to move files from internal memory to USB?
Does anyone know if this keyboard youncan build like setlists for a live show or something. Where yiu cna build different sounds fir different songs and switch as needed?
Once I import midi files into the Key 61, where do they end up so that I can reassign instruments etc…Can you give me a 1 thru process on this? I haven’t seen any videos on this…
I just bought the Akai key 61 and I''m having a hard time with saving and naming a project. If someone could help me with this I would truly appreciate it.
Bro thanks for the tutorials. But when I record on a track from a program, which is MIDI And I switch track to record another tone from the same program. They tone that I already recorded changes so for instance, if I have piano A on track 10 recorded then I go to Track 11 to record piano, B Track 10 also changes to piano.b How do I get this solved
Most likely both tracks are using the same plugin program, so when you change the sound associated to it, it changes it for both. Try setting each track to its own plugin program and see if that fixes it!
Thank you very much for your speedy reply very much appreciated. It only allows for eight plug-ins but each plug-in is basically a sound model so I’m trying to use one module or plug in for example fabric xl. I want to use for example piano brass bass guitar, etc. from fabric xl within the same sequence but on different tracks and it’s not allowing that so even though I go to track two and I select like fabric Excel all over again and I choose a different Bank with a different tone, whatever I select the previous recorded track switches to. this thing is supposed to be multi timbral and it’s not allowing me to do it help please if you can.
Sure thing! The plugin and the sound selected (program) are always tied together. So while yes, the plugin is like a sound module, the program selected within that module is always associated. So you only get 8 plugin/program combos on the MPC. You can use the same plugin again, it just needs to be a different plugin program within MPC. Hope that helps it make sense!
Akai need to fix this. It makes no sense that I have all these tones that interfere with the previous recorded ones of a different track with the same plugin.
I just bought a Key61 Yesterday and upgraded to MPC-3 OS This guide is extremely helpful even with the new UI changes. Thank you!
Just got mines yesterday you’re a blessing 🙌🏿
Your videos have helped me better understand the architecture of my MPC Key 61. This one in particular was very helpful! Thank you.
This was exactly what I was trying to figure out about how a "song" is set up in the MPC Key 61 - thanks a ton!

Your tutorials are on point, bud. Easy to follow and concise. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos. Please keep them coming! 🙏
Thank you for bring light into this structure
You’re tutorials are great I would like to know how to load vst plugins so can have better 808s and drum kits
The best to start with.. thanks bro
Thanks for your videos, you're a great teacher, very structured ❤ So, if one sequence is my verse and another my chorus, can I also re-use sequences?
Just got it delivered today! Really appreciate this 🙏🏽
Enjoy!!

Well, I just ordered a Key 61. :)

Great video, but what I'd like to see is you actually building a track. Maybe you have a video of such?
Hi..how about the master tuning..? How to get from 441 - 432hz..?
So basically if I understand the MPC nomenclature a Program = Sound Source correct?
hello brother, I just want to ask how can u map your track volume into your slider/fader from your m-audio controller. thanks!
How can we connect it to desktop computer as a midi controller. I didn't get external midi option in the settings. Can you please explain it

Can MIDI Tracks be exported
Yes!

I’m recording guitar in audio track, It says i am only allowed 2 audio tracks and no overdub is available for audio…is this correct?
Ist Akai mpc key 61 besser als Korg Nautilus? Grüße aus Deutschland 👍🏻🙋🏼♂️
How many drum kits odes it have
How many projects can be stored
I just bought the Akai key 61 and I''m having a hard time with saving and naming a project. If someone could help me with this I would truly appreciate it.
Using it again up to eight times only which only allows for 8 tones only ? Or as the tracks are plenty I can use it again and again ?
Only 8 tones, but you can use the same tone on multiple tracks (e.g. Fabric XL - Pluck Sound could be the plugin program/tone for 3 tracks).

Thank you for trying but, you were all over the place. Do your homework and follow a unity all the way through again thank you for trying.
He explained it correctly maybe it's little over your head
