I got chills when he did the long pause right before he sang ..."Funny how time flies" Yes it does! Shout out to the Class of 1987 I really miss going to concerts at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. That place was the best. A great time to be young wild and free growing up in Southern California. I have no regrets. It was a bunch of fast times and I have so many beautiful memories. For all of it...I am truly Grateful.
The lucky ones live in California. We don't even get CLOSE to having festivals like this in MInnesota. :< Thank you for sharing these highlights. That must have been SOME day :>
Thank you so much for uploading! I didn't even know this happened. I wish there was more Devo but it's a great lineup! Marc Almond's voice has me concerned, hope he's doing well. I love how New Order made you forget about your pain for a minute, I wish it had lasted. I would kill to see all these bands, I'm happy you got to go and had a nice beach to lay on, I can relate. Man, Cindy and Kate can still sing their asses off! Aw, everyone was too pooped to dance to Blue Monday, I would have saved my energy for that!
I am loving loving this vides. thanks for taking the time to do this. I just did one video and editing was a pain..so i can only imagine this...thanks for the memories...Had a blast !!!My favorite band was OMD worst band was Tears for Fears.
oh my gosh i cried too..i really don't know why. Perhaps because oh how much time has passed and all the happy memories..or because i knew this would probably be one of the last times I would experience a concert like this.
Richard Butler still singing like a post-punk dalek bless him. Marc Almond still ploughing a unique furrow, vocals-wise. Love 'em both and wouldn't change a thing 🙂
I love going to a gig and completely missing the performances due to my phone being glued to my hands and both my arms in splints to support said arms, then I go home and watch what I've craptured and think to myself, this recording sucks, if only I had been there to watch these bands live...oh if only...😵💫😵💫😵💫
Sorry you feel my recording sucks. My family and kids that didn't get to go have enjoyed watching it and I did it for them. I hope you enjoyed parts of the video I shared.
April 18th 2024... Darker Waves 2024 lineup or date not yet announced probably to avoid cannibalizing Cruel World 2024 in May (about 4 weeks from now). I'll wait for the lineup to be announced and if it's even halfway as good as the one from 2023, I'm going. Coming from NYC. This is way better than the Cruel World 2023 festival.
Thanks for posting this. Loved your production, intro video, transitions, labeling etc. Really nice effects. We saw almost the same acts, making the same transitions (maybe off about a song in a place or two) but then when New Order finished we headed back to the Darker Stage to catch Tears for Fears. Here are some of my highlights that lineup pretty well with yours. th-cam.com/video/L_7ToJiMRGY/w-d-xo.html Thanks again for sharing.
OMD still retained their original spirit better than most of these bands....Bernard Sumner from New Order went off key a lot but I guess he's kind of known for that. They miss Peter Hook live too.
Remember Armondo and the Blade on KROQ way back before Kevin and Bean. Don't forget Rodney on the Rock. In an older....world, I'd add the following bands to this line up: Talking Heads, Missing Persons, Flock of Seagulls, the Fixx, Berlin, Echo and the Bunnymen, Go Go's The Bangles, Plimsels, Ah Ha, SaGa, the Fixx, Stray Cats, Madness, Fishbone, Roxy Music, Cabernet Voltaire, UB40, and Oingo Boingo as the Headliner. Damn I can smell the Final Net hairspray from here. Oh wow! I just reading now that Jim Ladd died today. He was huge on L.A. Radio in the Classic Rock genre. That's a bummer. Dusty Street just died last month. Damn time is speeding up. Everyone's feeling it. All of this on a Monday night. As it begins to rain in the City of Angels. Thank you for sharing this. I would've gone if I'd have known. The bands sounded good. Fire whoever promoted it. I see commercials for something called Loser Fest w/Corey Feldman and Limp Bizket but not for this. That's a crime. Tin roof rusted muthafuckers
THIS is the festival I would have gone to if I had known about it in January 2023, instead of the LAME Cruel World '23. I have seen the bill for CW24 and I am not going because it's shit. I'll wait for Darker Waves 2024 to be announced.
Many of them may not be in the best shape of their lives - particularly their voices - but they still managed to deliver good shows..... unlike the disaster, the fiasco that was Siouxsie at Cruel World in May 2023. Worse than Yoko Ono at her worst.
It's because TFF were on the other stage. This Waves Stage is at the opposite end of the fest so they showed live video of the performance. They did the reverse when New Order was on this stage.
Tears for Fears was packed. Check out Head Over Heels here th-cam.com/video/0CDb0DfsHgY/w-d-xo.html If you check these videos they don't show Tears for Fears (or B52s) on the stage because this videographer didn't travel back from the Waves Stage where New Order performed to the Darker Stage where Tears for Fears performed. Near the end of the festival when they weren't using every stage they started broadcasting the performance from another stage (ie B52s (Darker Stage) were head to head with Human League (Tiki Stage) leaving the Waves Stage open so they broadcast B52s onto the screens at the Waves Stage, so those arriving for New Order saw the B52s broadcast on the Waves Stage, and when New Order finished on the Waves Stage, they started broadcast Tears for Fears performance onto the screens of the Waves Stage even though Tears for Fears was performing live on the Darker Stage.
People with their phones up: you are ruining it for short people who wish to be present in the moment and enjoy the concert with bare eyeballs. Tip: snap a few pics & buy a T-shirt
The experience was not good. Food and merch were awful. $42 for a little chicken and rice? The lineup had too many conflicting set times and it was hard to get from one stage to the other in time to catch the beginning of the next act. Most disappointing was the B-52s-Human League-New Order conflict. Had to leave early from B-52s, missed Human League, and New Order were boring. Left a few songs into the set and called it a night. Not worth the money and will not return next year.
No. Tears For Fears played in a different stage. Everyone from New Order had to go all the way there. I stayed as they broadcasted it on the New Order Stage. I was too tired to get there and fight the crowd. 25-30k people.
Hard to follow Joy D...I mean New Order.....Look at that lack of crowd for Tears for Fears, exceptional music, just hard to follow something like New Order.
Only living 20 minutes from downtown Huntington Beach I almost thought about going to this. If you were there watching these artists it was probably really cool to go but from watching it on TH-cam it doesn't seem like any of these artists know how to sing anymore. Guitars out of tune etc. and being boxed in like sardines I'm glad I didn't spend the money to go to this. I love these artists but I'm really not impressed musically after all these years I think it's time for them to retire all of them. 😎Although I Love The Music, California Just Ain’t What It Used To Be…
It's amazing how OMD sound nearly identical to how they sounded in the 80s. Or even the 70's!
It's a shame they had to cut their songs off early, there's always time issues with so many bands so I'm grateful for what we got.
The lucky ones live in California. We don't even get CLOSE to having festivals like this in MInnesota. :< Thank you for sharing these highlights. That must have been SOME day :>
New order and OMD. OMGGGGG freaking awesome
Had a good time, thank God it didn't rain. 🔥🔥🔥😎🔥🔥🔥
God damn I miss the 80’s …best days of my life.
One of those events we hate we missed....This had to be EPIC!!! ✌
Cardigans were not only the best band of the day .. best show I have seen in 2023.... perfect set!
ah.. you cut off Nina before she said the funniest thing ever!!!
Thank you so much for uploading! I didn't even know this happened.
I wish there was more Devo but it's a great lineup! Marc Almond's voice has me concerned, hope he's doing well.

Aw, everyone was too pooped to dance to Blue Monday, I would have saved my energy for that!
This filled my Gen X soul!
Thx for the upload.
OMD and Human League were INCREDIBLE! We had such a fun time at DarkerWaves.....even with all the people trying to push to the front (aka annoying!).
Wow, Human League....so good.
When I got my first OMD CD in the late 80's I was like this is the most romantic album I have ever heard, and I was heavily into music.
💪🏻💪🏻
Would like to see Peter Murphy and Bauhaus on this bill, next time.
I am loving loving this vides. thanks for taking the time to do this. I just did one video and editing was a pain..so i can only imagine this...thanks for the memories...Had a blast !!!My favorite band was OMD worst band was Tears for Fears.
omd was amazing, cried during the set. what a dream
oh my gosh i cried too..i really don't know why. Perhaps because oh how much time has passed and all the happy memories..or because i knew this would probably be one of the last times I would experience a concert like this.
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this!!! I went to all the bands you showed here what a great day! ❤❤❤❤
Love that you posted this. Great festival ❤
Best footage ever!!!
Cool, I liked it😊
Richard Butler still singing like a post-punk dalek bless him. Marc Almond still ploughing a unique furrow, vocals-wise. Love 'em both and wouldn't change a thing 🙂
Wow, that is one hellava line up. I only found out about this concert the day before it happened. I'm totally sick i missed this.
Great upload!
Richard Butler's voice is still great!
OMD is the best...

How could this be in one day? Three stages, so 11 acts on each stage? Gen X hits the oldies circuit.
This would be a great festival in the San Francisco Golden Gate Park!
me gustaría tocar en ese escenario y ese día volver a este comentario

Wish they invited Philippine New Wave Group band “ The Dawn “ - Titled hit somg- Enveloped ideas
Human league sounds awesome❤
Tears for Fears was a Video Feed? crazy...

I am thinking about going this year. Any recommendations or advice in terms of lodging and transportation?
OMD still retained their original spirit better than most of these bands....Bernard Sumner from New Order went off key a lot but I guess he's kind of known for that. They miss Peter Hook live too.
I might've went had I known about this.
AARP Concert.
Seen the Furs many times and they still sound like they did in the 80's
Does anybody know if Richard blade was there?
Remember Armondo and the Blade on KROQ way back before Kevin and Bean. Don't forget Rodney on the Rock.

Did omd play RADIO WAVES?

The old Punks don't smoke after Midnight
Switch to Cloves.
White punks on dope!
Roland Orzabal from tears for fears has not aged well. Does not look good for 62 years old. Not sure if it was a lot of drinking or drugs but wow!
Especially since the singer of OMD is 64 (I just looked it up) and still looks great and moves around the stage as much as he did in the 80's
Grief can be very ageing
Roland is better than ever, ageist.
Orzabal is one of the most creative writers along with Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance
Why was there nobody there for tears for fears?
Sad everyone tired??
They're there. A lot of people stayed and a lot of people left as well. They most likely left early to beat the traffic jam

Ahhh gotcha, makes sense. I clearly was not paying attention or else I would've noticed that the band wasn't on stage! hahah thanks!
Human League, Devo seemed to sound the best
darker waves ? REALLLY !? How is this dark ?

Did everyone leave after New Order? There was nobody left for Tears for Fears. So sad
No. Tears For Fears played in a different stage. Everyone from New Order had to go all the way there. I stayed as they broadcasted it on the New Order Stage. I was too tired to get there and fight the crowd. 25-30k people.

Having a fest in the sand has to be the stupidest idea ever. Never again
Wish they had so,e other acts too and ditched the femmes, etc
What a crap show

The worst festival ever on planet Earth.
No, most Metal festivals win that description!
Jesus...just a bunch of phones stuck up in the air...sad
