Valencia CF: How to Damage a Historic Club feat. Peter Lim & Jorge Mendes
What’s going wrong at Valencia? Peter Lim and Valencia have been a bad match so far. After things started so well, they fell off massively and the involvement of football super agent Jorge Mendes is angering fans. The fans and the ownership are at odds, with Peter Lim’s daughter recently scorching Valencia fans and saying that they own the club, and they can do what they want. Because of all of this, Peter Lim is considered to be one of the worst football owners in Spain.

@Shareq01 Nah. All the things about the treble were due to the heritage of Joan Laporte which was the dude that brought Guardiola on charge of the main team and gave him all the power. He was also responsible for putting Barca in the first position in the table of clubs with the most gains when Barca was the 16th Club with the most Gains and also a team that was inferior to Madrid.

As a Valencia fan and valencian person there are things I need to say:
First, thank you for sharing our terrible story with Mr. Lim. We are angry with him and his partner Anil (actual president) beacuse they treat the club as their toy and they don't want to hear the fans complains about their direction.
But also, I have to say you forgot a really important part of this story: The chairman (I think this is the word, but its the person who makes the players and managers trades).
In the 2014/15 season, we had Rufete (Valencia legend) as a chairman. He was in charge when Lim arrived and he didn't go out, and he was the responsible of some moves as Otamendi, which was the soul of the team at that season. In that same season, he was fired because Lim wanted to put Mendes in charge or people who were Mendes and Lim puppets. After 2 awful years (2015-16 and 2016-17), Lim realised he needed someone as a chairman to improve the quality of the team. And he hired Mateu Alemany
Mateu Alemany did really good moves and bought really good players, and also hired Marcelino, who was a manager with experience in the elite football, and not explayers or other teams ex-staff members (Neville, Ayestarán). They both took a team who was awful and put it in the Champions League for 2 consecutive years. They reached all the objectives. And we, the fans, were really happy.
    What happened? Lim wasn't.
In the middle of the 2018-19 season, Lim talked to Marcelino and told him to focus on reaching Champions League and forget about Copa del Rey. But Marcelino, who has a lot of character, told him team was going to fight for the Cup too. Lim doesn't like to be said "No", and he took it as a challenge.
Team won Cup, and Marcelino was going to start the next season. But he started to talk about this talks with Lim, and Lim got angry with him and fired him when he had a bad start at the beginning of the 2019-20 season. Mateu Alemany, the chairman, negociated his exit with the club, because he understood the signings were going to be made by Lim again, and the club signed an unexperienced manager again: Celades. But players still loved Marcelino and took that as the end of the good old times. And Celades, although he did what he could, wasn't able to be good as a Valencia manager, and he also finished being fired
Now, as a Valencia fan, I only want Lim to sell the club

We hope Lim will sell the club. Or i think it's the best choice if valencia's relegation. It make me sad, but i hope valencia can get more stronger than before

Manchester United and Valencia fans, what can they REALLY do? As I'm writing this the fan pressure was so high that Bartomeu officially is no more. And just like that, in debt or not Barcelona has got a pulse. Something that Valencia and Man Utd unfortunately do not.

There's one thing that really puzzles me with this situation... what are Lim and Mendes actually winning by mismanaging the club like this? I mean it would probably earn them way more money if they made sure the club was at least relatively succesfull? It's just weird. I kinda get that they're trying to use the club to get Mendes' players from "lesser" leagues like the Portugese one to a stronger league like the Spanish one and then on to an even stronger team in a country like Spain or England, but why would you do that in a way that in the end just hugely damages the club. The fact that Lim can't even seem to find a buyer for a club like Valencia seems to make it very clear that, even from a business perspective, his actions don't really make any sense.

Knowing Peter Lim as a businessman, i think that's how George Mendez would pitch to him. Lim does not know jackshit about football. Only $$$$.

Great video! Although I was expecting to see you talk a bit about the construction of their new stadium, Nou Mestalla, which has been on halt since 2009 and which Lim had promised to help finish.
It has been more than 10 years, construction has yet to be renewed and they now have the city council pressuring them. The original plan which was set to be between 77.000 - 80.000 seats has been reduced to a cheaper 54.000 seater and redesign due to the financial constrains, which is barely any progress from their current Mestalla.
They have recently agreed to sell their old Mestalla for 120M €, but they still owe banks, Bankia and La Caixa, 160M €. They are also supposed to move into Nou Mestalla for the 2022-23 season but considering they have yet to regain construction license to resume the job and it has been over 10 years since there has been any progress, things seem a little bit unlikely.
tl;dr, debt and stadium issues :(

You could add so much to this story, it's an ongoing saga. For example how the union of all supporters' clubs asked for the president to resign, by unanimous decision. In response, they were told by the club to leave their headquarters, situated on the ground floor of Mestalla (the stadium) where they had resided for 25 years. The club basically kicked out its supporters. The disillusioned fans have been very creative in their protest, arranging a symbolic funeral for the club and hiring a mariachi band to piss off Lim's people during their regular lunch meetings at a bar near Mestalla.
Here's a fascinating little glimpse into the battle between the club and its fans (that was a year ago):

This is a great video about our poor situation here at Valencia. The only missing piece that you didnt mention was the sacking of Mateu Alemany, the sporting director in the time of Marcelino. He was largely at fault for the success of the club in his run as director and helped Marcelino construct the team we had. But Lim wanted more power of decision and authority which he had lost with the good results and copa del Rey that Marcelino and Alemany brought. So the only method he found for asserting dominance was to sack everyone.
Also, it is crucial to know that Lim didn't want, and read carefully, the 2019 Copa del Rey. He DIDN'T WANT THE FIRST TITLE IN THE LAST 10 YEARS FOR THE CLUB. He only wanted to get into the Champions League to have more recognition and bring more value to the players in order to sell them. Although Marcelino achieved everything, Lim saw this as a form of defiance and also amounted towards the sacking of the coach.
The only thing left to say is that the way in which they buy and sell players has led the fans like us to believe that both Mendes and Lim get some really big commissions from each transaction. They have made their money back and want to sell, having offers from Leeds's owner Ragazzini and an incoming offer from a grill of valencian entrepreneurs.
It would be nice if you made a video about the selling process of the club, the reasons, what happened... most of us Valencia fans will be happy to help you. We need our story to be told! It is a cautionary tale for other football clubs.

To those of you saying why not and that Everton are good, the worry about these people buying out multiple clubs is that eventually, one will be the top club. No matter how good RB Salzburg is, their best players will go to Leipzig. Same with Man City and their feeder clubs. Now, La Liga and the Prem are pretty equal, so it's hard to see it happening between those two leagues, but there is a fear that the Everton owner would consider Everton to be the "senior club" and would use Valencia as a feeder.

That image is burned into my head and something that I can never forgive Lim for. Ferran leaving hurt but in reality the boy wanted to be made captain and we just couldn't offer him that. The fee was ridiculous for his departure. As a Milan fan, I’m glad he didn’t own the club at the time. Though the team went vastly downhill under Yonghong Li that created the infamous banter era.

Why wont these rich people support their own teams in their own countries? If I was a billionaire that love football like most of the people claim to be, I'll focus my effor locally rather than make a me fool abroad

Lim only speculates to sell footballers , not for compet in football. And this is very sad for a century-old entity that is Valencia CF.

I hadnt felt true, natural happiness in a long fucking time and was so happy in 2019 after that Copa-final. To see everything fall apart in summer in a clash for power. I am so fucking tired of this shit, Bordalas had 75% B-team players and a Foulqier with the salary of 7200$/week. Yay, a whole season of partying and relaxing! Benitez once said: "I wanted a sofa, they gave me a lamp". Now: "Sometimes shit, sometimes good". Yea, Gattuso. Talk about setting the bar high.

oh, and the reports of Lim speaking to Mendes about finding a potential new buyer isn't true. Lim doesn't want to sell, not any time soon anyway.
