  • FOR THE ROAD EPISODE 3: Everything that's wrong with my Alfa Romeo.
I have a look at everything that's gone wrong on my 1964 Giulia Sprint GT since it was rebuilt in 2013/2014. From bodywork to fuel system issues to mechanical trouble, this is what needs fixing on the "Africa Car".
    Music: A-Gon Brood.

That Jag Mark X in the background at the beginning of the video is really cool.
Awesome videos Jethro - your channel really isn't popular enough when you've got this kind of production quality.

Strike86 thank you! I don't upload very much so I'm not expecting much channel growth. However my new workshop is almost done and I will be putting out regular videos from next week.

Loved it Jethro. A really honest description of a car that looks mint 20 meters away! This translates the reality of a well worn classic car. I'll do the same kind of video of my Alfa one of thiese days.... It's in kind of similar condition!

I just gave a look at your other videos and it's just awesome! I'm 24 and I'm also restoring my 1970 GT1300Junior (also the model with the open hood but with the newer interiori/2nd generation). Would be great to see how your project will proceed. I will start to rebuild the car soon. Greetings from Switzeland

Unpopular opinion:I would rather have it drive and rust than let it sit stripped for years . They will never be perfect ,so might aswell enjoy these cars as long as they run.

Petar Perovic it’s probably a good approach, in retrospect.

Never drive a classic car in Denmark during winter. We spray tons of salt on the roads each time there is a chance of sub zero temperatures. Corrosion of are very often the reason for cars ending up in the scrap yard. Almost impossible to stop when first started.

Love this project and the fact you and this car have already been through so much together. Will be watching. And of course worrying about that Alfa itch I've seemed to have picked up....

Yeah - and it's getting worse by the day. I just saw something called a Junior GT. Holy Moses what a gem. I used to think I wanted a spider but I think I'd take that little beastie first.

A little more than 10 years ago I had, together with friends, a 1969 Berlina project car. And other friends had other Alfas of the same vintage during those days. Some still do. I miss those 60's Alfas. I subscribed to your channel. Who knows, I may get another 60's Alfa after seeing your videos.

I would definitely, if I may suggest, get rid of: foglights, bumper, the trophy badges, the metal number plate (I'd put a sticker on the bonnet instead, 1940s race car style), the side indicators and I would swap the frontal indicators for the clear all-white ones and I would give the co-driver a side mirror. Cheers! Great car!

Where in SA are you based man? Would love to meet up and check out your car if you're close to PE 👌🏼Restored a vintage car myself using it as a daily driver.. Not a Alfa though 1965 Beetle :)

This is a super beautiful car even with all the little dings! I love the color you chose to paint it! How much did the car cost you? How much would it be to get one in drivable condition? I'm looking for a classic car to restore and old Alfas and Porsches are my favorite!

    • @JethroBronner
      @JethroBronner  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Driver's Side Thanks! I paid very little for this, about $2700 back in 2012. I put a fair amount of money into it to get it running. They are getting pretty expensive now, especially the Step-nose cars. But they are a lot cheaper to rebuild than Porsches!

    • @DriversSide

Jethro Bronner yeah I’m thinking a classic 911 is out of range for now but an early Alfa of any variety would make my old soul happy haha

Jethro, thanks so much for sharing. Your car gave me the motivation to restore my 1986 Alfa75 to such a state that it will now feature at the Nairobi Concours d Elegance on 24th September 2017. Am grateful to E.B. Spares Ltd of UK for the support av gotten 4m them over the years. Keep it up and may others also benefit from the same way I have.

Great video. Isnt fuel in SA "AFRICAN?" What did u mean?
Consider a proper hydro blast to get to the actual metal then repaint. That way you wont have residues of previous paint evidenced. Hydroblast will also help to identify ALL rust spots. Great video!! Your trip was such an inspiration!! Would have loved to host you in Kenya!!!

Antonio Talarico I'm restoring my 1970 GT1300 Junior (scalino). I never had the chance to drive a 2000 GTV. Have you ever had the chance to compare the two models? 1300 vs 2000? My father owns a 1750 Spider Duetto from 1968 and its engine is just great. I really hope that the 1300 gets at least somehow close to it.
