    Alex easily gives out the best free information on TH-cam. I took his bootcamp awhile back (I've slowly been learning producing through TH-cam) but it literally skyrocketed my knowledge. There's so many little things he mentions that would've taken me years to learn on my own (because he's spent years learning and producing). I'm really not big on commenting, but honestly I've taken an insane amount of courses in music/business and this one has the most value. Alex if you see this seriously thank you SO much. My friends are literally starting to listen to my music it's kind of wild. Also, if you do take the course I recommend keeping a notebook and taking notes. There's so much info you want to make sure you're taking notes on the highlights. Best of luck everyone🔥

    It’s interesting watching these videos as a classically trained musician. Idk his background, but Alex does a lot of cool stuff that we have technical terms for like “common tones” and that “pedal point” on C, but all that vocabulary you learn from music theory doesn’t matter to me when I’m sound designing. Just being able to hear it and use it naturally is dope. Good ears, Alex!! 💯

    This was actually the most useful video I've found. You literally told me exactly what I needed. My biggest issue is staying organized in my head and figuring out a structure. Ive got so many little melodies saved on my laptop that I just couldn't figure out how to keep going. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us this information. For real!

      How did you figure out that the root note of the chords was C?

    • @AlexRome
      @AlexRome  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Piyush Waghulde ahhhh. So yes, I was in A minor, but C was the comfortable note. Technically the A note would be the root note. However, in A minor, the C note is a comfortable note that sounds good without having to change it. In other words, I can play the C note while I’ll the chords play and not have to change it. Every chord progression has a couple comfortable notes and not just one note. In A minor, they are A and C. Hope this helps (:

    I like your videos, i just cant help but feel like you set so many rules for how music has to be. I understand that most of the time you have to use notes in the scalea for chords or bass but when you say MUST and also the part where youre talking about putting the notes 7 semitones above the bass note just sounds so formulaic.

    Alex, I’ve recently discovered your channel and have already learned a ton from it. I was wondering if you could do a video explaining some tips for creating those huge growls/stabs that you hear on the first downbeat of dubstep/bass music drops as that is a struggle of mine

    Thanks for the video! I was wondering if you could explain how and when to go out of key.

    • @AlexRome
      @AlexRome  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, you don't ever want to go out of key. All songs are built in a specific key signature. All this means is that a specific song is limited to a group of keys on the keyboard. For example, a song in A minor is limited to only the white keys and cannot use the black keys. If your song is in A minor and you choose to use a black key in your melody, the key will sound bad, dull, and hard on the ears. The phenomenon of key signatures is a really weird thing. It is like our brains are pre-wired to automatically know when certain sounds are out of key because we will recognize that those sounds sound "bad". Idk, it's a crazy thing but don't ever step out of key. Your listeners won't like it (:

    • @adonisbeat
      @adonisbeat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      C major is the relative major of A minor.. thats how he is «out og key». So since he is resting allot on the C note here this song would actually be in C major not A minor if im not misstaking.

    Learned a lot of cool tips from watching the vids on your channel, Alex.
    I used to play a mean piano back in grade 2 elementary school;
    and later on aced the music exam in 1st year high school, playing the alto saxophone.
    I've dabbled in and out of music occasionally, but I'm getting heavy into the DAW system presently,
    (especially Logic) and working toward something more digital.
    These tutorials helped a lot, and very soon I'll be producing my own stuff.
    Thanks, Rome.
