by this thinking, anyone can raise allegations against anyone and destroy them … again it’s not up to some league to adjudicate. and anyone allegedly hurt should press charges with real police. otherwise whatever
It isn't so cut and dry and black and white. Not every unwanted advance or sexual misconduct is a punishable crime. the USCF as an industry has some obligation for code of conduct to protect the wellbeing of their players since chess is a game that crosses generations and different age groups and cultures.
Obviously if anyone is SA'd - they should engage the police. But even if they do that, does the USCF have to wait for a conviction and him to be in jail in order to take any action? It's pretty easy from a risk management perspective to take allegations like that seriously.
If people are suspected child predators and you have any kind of club/public event - you wouldn't let them come to that event. Plain and simple.
It's not like these people are playing in public parks, these are sanctioned events hosting by a massive organization - there is 100% an obligation to keep your environment safe, and if someone who has been accused of what he has been is coming to your events and making seriously morally questionable behaviors and the only people with authority to stop them is the federation... then yeah, they should probably do something about that, like not let him come to those events.
Even though Ben is typically a goofy guy, I've consistently seen him being the most principled, responsible, and conscientious public figure I can think of in the chess community. I have a lot of respect for the way he handles himself around important issues, and I commend him for this.

I do kinda think he'd do a good job, if Ben and Karen weren't available
he would definitely be incorruptible and have the interests of players at heart, but he's also an active player, commentator and streamer with a ton going on, and it would be a shame to see less of him in those roles because he put on an administrative suit.

It’s wild how gambling and poker and all those sorts of things are games people think of as being super misogynistic and sleazy, but so many women in the chess community (eg. Jen, Karen, Botez) end up moving toward them instead.

I play at Cherokee (mainly circuit events), I played WSOP this past summer (I won a satty into the Main), and I play online on ACR . Poker people are really fun and great, though certainly problems exist there too @@DeDodgingEse

There's politics in any organization. Debating these issues is important. US chess is not one person. I remember M. Palmer telling me he was disrespected by uscf pres. 70years ago when he won postal championship. Fight the good fight .

I was thinking about become a member from US Chess Federation so that I could play in tournaments and get an official rating, but I don’t want to be a member given Jennifer Shahade’s situation with them.

I can barely hear Karen because she sits way back and far away from the mic. That is kind of unfortunate, especially considering the fact that the whole story is about how women are treated in chess. Or maybe it's intentional and brilliant symbolism of the women still always being behind the men and their voices barely be heard at all, I don't know
I appreciate it, but it comes down to the fact I wasn't originally planning to stream but Ben wanted me to come down for the discussion about him resigning. They offered for me to sit in the front, but I was in the middle of two online poker tournaments and needed to sit in the back and multi task. :)

I used to think I hated people so I moved way back in the woods.. Then I realized its not the people, its their solutions. Mostly because when they come up with one, they think everyone should use it and even make laws to force people to use them. That is what I hate.
