Do you kids really enjoy playing games where your hand is held from point A to B to Z as you're just mowing threw one baddy after the next? ducking and shooting ducking and shooting, it just feels like a minimally interactive movie you're watching.. If I'm not dying a lot in a campaign I'm not playing it.
That is why difficulty levels have been invented. For me games are more like a roller coaster ride. I hop in and I expect to have a good time. Dying multiple times and walking in circles looking for the exit is not my thing.
I am so glad that this has come out. The way horror games were like in the past couple of years, like Amnesia, Outlast or Alien Isolation. I want to fight back the scaryness and not just run and hide like a fucking coward. Cannot wait to play this!
Funny because all you do in Anmesia, Outlast and to a degree Alien Isolation is run and hide like a coward. TEW is in a different genre than those three.

When this thing gets released at almost the same time as Alien: Isolation, it's pretty clear which one is actually _horror_. And which is the kind of ew, ridiculous over the top action adventure, with some attempts of adding in stealth, survival, even a dash of "horror".

The combat is similar, some of the situations and bosses are familiar to those you would fight in RE, and some of the boss fights where you have to dodge or avoid a particular enemy are highly stressful and remind me of the kind of feeling you'd get from a game like Amnesia. Sure there is a lot of gore, but there is also a lot of atmosphere and truly terrifying enemies.
Garrett Emrick Should I say it? I'mma say it. This game is part of the dead space school of survival horror. Aesthetically, it is very reminiscent of RE 4, same with the upgrade system. However, most of it plays like a malnourished Dead Space 2. Not in a bad way, but when it takes 4-6 bullets to kill one basic zambambo, I'm not entirely sure I appreciate having a standard maximum of 10. Good game though. Pretty much exactly what i wanted.

Those were games with very much "downtime" as in no action, no intensity etc. Safe time, suspense time, puzzle solving time, these then added a contrast to the actual horror content. This game is epic... Best game of the year so far. 3.5 is a bit low, I would say a 4 min, the graphics are decent but not up to infamous second son, or even destiny. Graphics are not everything... This game is fun and very creepy atmosphere. Better than I thought this would be! Thumbs up!!!
This game deserves a 4 out of 5. Its great. Its everything that re 4 should have been. It plays a lot like re 4 with some mixture of the last of us. Ammo is limited, enemies and traps can 1 hit kill u. The game has no map so it encourages u to explore. Boss fights remind me of re 4 with some of them like the "It" boss fight from re4 which is great. It may seem overwhelming at first but once u realize that the u can group enemies together 1 shot them with 1 shotgun ammo and use the matches to burn the group together using ammo efficiently its great. Also maxing the flash bolts on the cross bows u can stealth kill groups of enemies. The only complain I have is that puzzles don't make sense and ur ability upgrades health, sprint, melee etc are not designed well. I beat the game without upgrading melee...sprint is a must
Dead space, project zero, siren and the early resi games did very well of building tension and having limited resources. I am a fan of Mikami-san game's when i get around to buying a PS4 i sure will experience the evil within for myself.
Thanks for the review! What surprises me today is why games which could be as scary or creepy as classics like Silent Hill, don't live up to that level of suspense. The graphical aspects of this game are incredible, often photorealistic, but why can't we as gamers today live to enjoy the horror and despair of disturbing games from the past like Silent Hill?
Stealth is not supposed to be easy. That's why there's not a lot of stealth games. I think this girl just sucks at the game, and it's okay to suck, just don't blame the game.

As long as it didn't have Chris Redfeild punching a bolder and fighting in a volcano I was happy. It was a step in the right direction finally and I can tell they will only fix the lack of fear aspect in the next addition to the series. We must be patient good (in a scary way) things will come from this game.
This is the first honest review for this game I've seen. Most of the other just went "Shinji Mikami !!! 10 stars!!! Because I had good memories of one game (RE4) so it can't be bad!!!11!1!!" This game is a masterpiece of survival horror. It's the best horror game I've played in a while. I like it better than RE4. What is wrong with you? It's meant to be a hard game. You're meant to die a lot. It's all about trial and error. That's called game design. It's designed this way on purpose. You have to be strategic about how you approach encounters. Maybe you're poor at video games and would just prefer something easy like Call of Duty?

It seems to of taken much of its inspiration from Silent Hill and it shows It's a decent game but the health, its limited regeneration etc does make you better much more careful and as they touched on, adds an extra layer of challenge. Anyone who has Game Pass, it's available to download there
Many people criticizing the game.. In my opinion this game is perfect for fans of third person tank controls. The sound is really immersive because every creaking sound can be hear.. I have a 7.1 surround sound and my god when the chainsaw guy was chasing me I really felt scare but not terrified.. This game is not easy, I started playing the game in survival and there is no crosshair so it's more difficult to shoot but I'm still enjoying the challenge.. Sneaking mechanics are identical to the last of us so I was familiar with it.. The animations are not the best, but the saving grace is the detail.. The aspect ratio is no problem I have a 60 inch plasma haha, besides I got used to black bars because I watch a lot of movies

well first off nothing beats the survival horror of RE Remake in my opinion but I say it up there with RE 4 it scarier then it for sure. there different elements of fear used like cat and mouse Limited items and insta Kill bosses meaning they kill you in one strike. I think a lot people are full shit saying it not scary because being chased with chainsaw is intensely terrifying
To save 8 minutes of your life if you played and enjoyed resident evil 4 you will enjoy this game yes it is a survival horror game but not in the general sense it doesn't rely on making the protagonist weak and unable to defend themselves and adding cheap jump scares to the mix it's a solid game
I see how us gamers are spoiled on the difficulty front nowadays people complain about how hard stealthing is but it's more realistic in the end. If I'm sneaking in Elder Scrolls I hate how the enemies don't see 2 meters away. This seems better on that front. And on the some enemies can't be stealth killed front I can understand if the enemy is massive and some demented horror.

the ending of tew is confusing. i assumed ruvik didn't have a body of his own, just his brain was hooked up to the machine, so he transferred himself into leslie's body to get back into the real world.

They need to rename this game to Rage 2 because that's exactly what you'll be doing when you try to play this game. Black bars covering half the screen, clunky controls, no ammo, no stamina, 30fps, terrible field of view, trial and error gameplay.
I haven't played this yet but the AI looks kind of bad...at times (like when they were fighting the cube-head guy) the cube-head guy was just standing there doing nothing while the protagonist was next to him shooting. Is this common in the game or was the difficulty just on easy?
well I thought it was pretty scary kicking off until I reached like level 7 then I was more comfortable and less Scared but I think it's definitely in need of a sequel
the sequel sucks huh? they ruined it trying to please all the people who whined about the first game being too hard. had a much more simple, less interesting story. and the most fights in 2 didn't even compare to the first game.
she's just makes the game sound really bad because she explains the store wrong, combat wrong, and bosses wrong. Story: you are hooked up to a psychopath's brain. thats why the world is all fucked up with crazy creatures. Combat: use stealth as much as you want and once you fail at using stealth just kill everything around you and try again. Bosses: theres no nine step faze to kill a boss, 4 steps tops and you don't kill the same bosses over and over and over again because after the first time you kill one you know it weakness so it makes it really easy the next time you fight them. P.S you can use stealth around some bosses, all enemies have really good vision cones so they take the time to look for you.
It's funny how all the supposed hardcore gamers are saying this game is total crap, giving it ridiculously low ratings and trolling the 'net, etc. This game is the closest thing to the original horror games of the `90s like the ORIGINAL Resident Evil. Sure, if you just stepped out of Mordor as Talion wielding a sword, you might get frustrated that you can't hack your way through every foe, but that's what makes a game like this fun! I also think the graphics on PS4 are not as bad as some people say. At the end of the day, I think a "niche" game like this should carry a $49 price-tag instead of $59 but I don't regret my purchase.

The story was a bit lousy and the characters are very flat, but it's still a great game. I like it.

Its not particularly scary but I have never been scared by any game but it plays extremely well.. I feel like the reason we play games is to have fun and this game is exactly that a lot of fun so if you liked dead space or re4 than this is a game for you

It's a decent game but the health, its limited regeneration etc does make you better much more careful and as they touched on, adds an extra layer of challenge.

Many people criticizing the game.. In my opinion this game is perfect for fans of third person tank controls. The sound is really immersive because every creaking sound can be hear.. I have a 7.1 surround sound and my god when the chainsaw guy was chasing me I really felt scare but not terrified.. This game is not easy, I started playing the game in survival and there is no crosshair so it's more difficult to shoot but I'm still enjoying the challenge.. Sneaking mechanics are identical to the last of us so I was familiar with it.. The animations are not the best, but the saving grace is the detail.. The aspect ratio is no problem I have a 60 inch plasma haha, besides I got used to black bars because I watch a lot of movies

Disappointed to hear of the high difficulty level. I really wanted to get this game, but I'm quite happy to admit that I'm shit at video games, and I don't have the patience to replay sections time and time again. I'm not looking for a challenge, so I guess I shouldn't waste my money on this game.

There's no sex which the next one should have, it would make an extremely scary getting rapped to death, tied up and set fire too jut another great weekend. Maybe it needs more executions..... Sadists and Psychopaths have sexual element in their motivation like cruel laughter, slow death suffering. There is Sadism in this game Lester seems to be a object of suffering, well I can't spoil the game.

well first off nothing beats the survival horror of RE Remake in my opinion but I say it up there with RE 4 it scarier then it for sure. there different elements of fear used like cat and mouse Limited items and insta Kill bosses meaning they kill you in one strike. I think a lot people are full shit saying it not scary because being chased with chainsaw is intensely terrifying

To save 8 minutes of your life if you played and enjoyed resident evil 4 you will enjoy this game yes it is a survival horror game but not in the general sense it doesn't rely on making the protagonist weak and unable to defend themselves and adding cheap jump scares to the mix it's a solid game
So basically don't stealth. Just kill all the things coming at you.
I see how us gamers are spoiled on the difficulty front nowadays people complain about how hard stealthing is but it's more realistic in the end. If I'm sneaking in Elder Scrolls I hate how the enemies don't see 2 meters away. This seems better on that front. And on the some enemies can't be stealth killed front I can understand if the enemy is massive and some demented horror.
Hi Garrus Vakarian. . . are you indoctrinated? Also I like when stealth is harder, and not like Elder Scrolls, it makes no sence. I like Splinter Cell stealth, they know you are in the area, but cant see you exactly.

the ending of tew is confusing. i assumed ruvik didn't have a body of his own, just his brain was hooked up to the machine, so he transferred himself into leslie's body to get back into the real world.

They need to rename this game to Rage 2 because that's exactly what you'll be doing when you try to play this game. Black bars covering half the screen, clunky controls, no ammo, no stamina, 30fps, terrible field of view, trial and error gameplay.

I haven't played this yet but the AI looks kind of bad...at times (like when they were fighting the cube-head guy) the cube-head guy was just standing there doing nothing while the protagonist was next to him shooting. Is this common in the game or was the difficulty just on easy?

the sequel sucks huh? they ruined it trying to please all the people who whined about the first game being too hard. had a much more simple, less interesting story. and the most fights in 2 didn't even compare to the first game.

she's just makes the game sound really bad because she explains the store wrong, combat wrong, and bosses wrong. Story: you are hooked up to a psychopath's brain. thats why the world is all fucked up with crazy creatures. Combat: use stealth as much as you want and once you fail at using stealth just kill everything around you and try again. Bosses: theres no nine step faze to kill a boss, 4 steps tops and you don't kill the same bosses over and over and over again because after the first time you kill one you know it weakness so it makes it really easy the next time you fight them. P.S you can use stealth around some bosses, all enemies have really good vision cones so they take the time to look for you.
It's funny how all the supposed hardcore gamers are saying this game is total crap, giving it ridiculously low ratings and trolling the 'net, etc. This game is the closest thing to the original horror games of the `90s like the ORIGINAL Resident Evil. Sure, if you just stepped out of Mordor as Talion wielding a sword, you might get frustrated that you can't hack your way through every foe, but that's what makes a game like this fun! I also think the graphics on PS4 are not as bad as some people say. At the end of the day, I think a "niche" game like this should carry a $49 price-tag instead of $59 but I don't regret my purchase.

After hearing about how impressive the graphics are I unsubscribed. Educate yourself on Anti Aliasing and actually look at the textures. The most frightening part of this game is how shockingly (pun intended) bad the graphics are for a 'AAA' game.

lol I guess on consoles maybe but to have a game that looks 720p on my monitor with a locked 30 fps is lazy port all over it. I'm a newer pc gamer that still plays on console but now i can finally see why pc players feel left to dry. It sucks you have to figure out the settings that just seems so lack luster i'm starting to second guess where the gaming industry is trying to go.
