I think it is easy to be self-reliant when we have experienced pain, betrayal, abandonment etc. We foolishly believe that being hyper independent will protect us and will be more safe. But this is a lie. We are designed to receive from God and to rely on God ❤ We are NOT created for solo striving, we are created for constant encounter with Jesus! Thank you Sister! Exactly what I needed today! This is something that I am really struggling with as a divorced woman, who did not expect to be alone after retirement. I have recently returned to the church after being gone for about 45 years, and am struggling to fully trust God with all of my needs.
I saw a documentary this pat week on George Washington. I did not know how much he turned to God and prayed. He had his soldiers pray with him for God's guidance and attributed every victory to God's grace. So essentially, those miraculous victories against tyranny were due to diligent prayer and turning to God for guidance and grace.
In the modern world the operative myth that animates so much of people's perspective is the idea that self-reliance is among the highest of virtues. This is completely inimical to the way God views ones spiritual development. Throughout the Bible, it is when someone is at their lowest point, broken and helpless, that he guides them to be victorious. It is through that crucible, where self-reliance has failed and that individual acknowledges that they need to rely on something higher than themselves, that they realize their fullest potential. Thank you, Sr. Mary, for articulating this truth so beautifully.
We recently returned to full communion with the Church and feel 'brand new'. Our journey took several years, with obtaining annulments, RCIA, counseling, etc. but it gave us time to reconcile with the past. Thanks Be to God.

@@louislamsc Maybe for me it’s three times daily… 😂😂😂 I’m use to reliance on self and God as my partner… I feel best when others are there where we support each other, build each other up, and then its best as there is a grounding… what I have found in the transitions of life, people scatter and Im left just God and me, though Im thankful for God being there or Id never survive… these times, its trusting in God that Jesus moves me where he needs me to be and I find “my God people” again… I have to say I get jealous of those who have had strong people around them their entire life as if they live in a fortress of love and protection. This has not been the case in my life. Im in a present transition feeling it’s just God and me… these times strengthen faith greatly as once you have been through it once you know you can get through it twice… once through it twice you pray the third time is the last time knowing that just the mere fact of age and limited time would make a fourth time near impossible. God is not to blame. Sinful hearts are to blame which scatter people… thankful Jesus as our Great Shepherd goes out and collects the scattered sheep bringing them once again to green pastures. Often people quote this verse as the lost sheep being the sinful one led astray but really I have found that the wolf comes in sheeps clothing scattering the sheep- and often those scattered are damaged and hurt greatly by sinful people within the church who did the scattering… Jesus never leaves us scattered as each of us continues to seek His voice and follow His lead. Very thankful for this truth! ❤️🩹🙏❤️

It is concerning to me society’s constant messaging to our young women that they must be “strong independent women” which seems to exalt self over family and God. I have two daughters in their late teens/ early twenties who I have wanted to share with that although independence isn’t bad it’s not necessarily a Christian value but interdependence is as in the interdependence of family and our dependence on God. I saw a documentary this pat week on George Washington. I did not know how much he turned to God and prayed. He had his soldiers pray with him for God's guidance and attributed every victory to God's grace. So essentially, those miraculous victories against tyranny were due to diligent prayer and turning to God for guidance and grace.
In the modern world the operative myth that animates so much of people's perspective is the idea that self-reliance is among the highest of virtues. This is completely inimical to the way God views ones spiritual development. Throughout the Bible, it is when someone is at their lowest point, broken and helpless, that he guides them to be victorious. It is through that crucible, where self-reliance has failed and that individual acknowledges that they need to rely on something higher than themselves, that they realize their fullest potential. Thank you, Sr. Mary, for articulating this truth so beautifully.

@@louislamsc Maybe for me it’s three times daily… 😂😂😂 I’m use to reliance on self and God as my partner… I feel best when others are there where we support each other, build each other up, and then its best as there is a grounding… what I have found in the transitions of life, people scatter and Im left just God and me, though Im thankful for God being there or Id never survive… these times, its trusting in God that Jesus moves me where he needs me to be and I find “my God people” again… I have to say I get jealous of those who have had strong people around them their entire life as if they live in a fortress of love and protection. This has not been the case in my life. Im in a present transition feeling it’s just God and me… these times strengthen faith greatly as once you have been through it once you know you can get through it twice… once through it twice you pray the third time is the last time knowing that just the mere fact of age and limited time would make a fourth time near impossible. God is not to blame. Sinful hearts are to blame which scatter people… thankful Jesus as our Great Shepherd goes out and collects the scattered sheep bringing them once again to green pastures. Often people quote this verse as the lost sheep being the sinful one led astray but really I have found that the wolf comes in sheeps clothing scattering the sheep- and often those scattered are damaged and hurt greatly by sinful people within the church who did the scattering… Jesus never leaves us scattered as each of us continues to seek His voice and follow His lead. Very thankful for this truth! ❤️🩹🙏❤️

I woke just before midnight, that gaping hole pounding in my chest and found your video. I have put it on loop, to absorbed every level of this message into my heart (if my brain won’t allow the truth, then my heart will!) Lately I have been doing what you described Juan Diego as doing to Mother Mary, I have been avoiding Jesus, as if I could put His invitation on hold; afraid I will lose control, be overcome, overwhelmed, even though in Holy Communion lately I have felt: “I in you, Jesus, You in me…” as I absorb the Eucharist.

It is concerning to me society’s constant messaging to our young women that they must be “strong independent women” which seems to exalt self over family and God. I have two daughters in their late teens/ early twenties who I have wanted to share with that although independence isn’t bad it’s not necessarily a Christian value but interdependence is as in the interdependence of family and our dependence on God. Thank you for saying what’s been in my heart I sent your message to them.
