  • Chuck shows you how to install a Micro-Swiss FlowTech HotEnd upgrade for your Creality K1 or K1 Max. He explains the differences between the original Creality version that can leak and the Flowtech version. Then he runs some prints to see how well it works. Check it out on this week's Filament Friday.

The FlowTech Hotend requires a specialized nozzle, but Micro Swiss only sells a copper-plated version (the same one included with their Hot End). It's supposed to be wear-resistant. I wonder how fast it'll wear out when printing carbon fiber and other more abrasive filaments.

I took off the PCB board to easier be able to remove the connectors from the old hot end and to add the ones from the new one. Made it a ton easier and it's only three extra screws. That also made it easy to clean the fan in there while doing it. The FlowTech wires are longer, too. All around a much easier to use / remove / install. Worth the cost I paid on Black Friday. Arrived just in time as I had the same error show up on my K1 as in the beginning of the video and that hot end was only about a month old. Best upgrade I've done my K1 so far.

So, I bought this Micro Swiss Flow Tech hot end, and I have to say I like it.... the prints so far have been beautiful. BUT.... changing out the hot end that came installed on the printer was a bit of a pain. My particular problem was that the two hot end connectors that need to be removed were GLUED in place and didn't come out easily. After yanking on them for a while with needle-nosed pliers they finally loosened, but in the process the wire leads inside those receptacles got bent. Thankfully I noticed all that before I tried to plug in the Flow Tech.... if I had tried to plug in the Flow Tech with those bent connectors I would not have made proper contact and I probably would not have known later what went wrong. I actually had to turn the printer on its side to make those delicate fixes... which turned out to be a wise step because the rest of the installation process was a lot easier without having to stoop down while bending your neck and working upwards. My arms couldn't take it!

I'm not really a fan of having another standard of nozzle. what manufacturers are going to make compatible nozzles for this? when will we get the Diamondback version? a CHT version? who knows.
I also recognize that this is probably a marked upgrade compared to stock. Definitely use what works best for you.

This will help, (I'm disabled and need that extra something something) to get a clear visual and hands on access to the underside of the hot end task.
Turn the KI Max upside down on the work bench. Have a sheep skin of beach towel as a bench cover to rest the inverted printer on. Makes this task a pleasant one.... (not so easy with the smaller K1 without masking taping a square roasting tray onto the top of the printer first... haha. been there, done that!)

Chuck, Have you had problem with the K1s jamming up. I've been using the recommended setting for generic PLA and I believe that my machine suffers from heat creep and the filament is melting way up in the heat break. With the old hot end it would jammed during the first layer of a very large print and after I clear the jam, it will finish the print with no problems. I installed the Microswiss this weekend and all three attempts to print it jammed at different stages of the print, but not on the first layer, it did it once the printer was at full speed.

My k1 extruder came with metal gearing. The one thing I learned early on is the k1's hotend is actually perfect. I have 4 k1s and a mk4 and 4 mk3s all going in my fleet. I tried upgrading to this hotend and at best I saw no improvements. It clogged about 60 or so hours in, slapped the original creality one back in place and just ordered replacements for backups. The microswiss was an upgrade for the ender 3, 5, and 6 but it's a downgrade on the k1 and newer ender 3v3.

I prefer it when someone flat out says the video was paid for by the company... Honestly can't trust anything he says it all may be true but it isn't reliable because of where the money is coming from.

It does not fit in the new K1 max. The copper thermal adapter is too big. It does not fit. Frustrating.

As far as i know, there are two versions of Creality heatspreaders and micro swiss offers also two different hotends matching the creality heatspreader versions.

BL printer nozzles are crimped into the hotends and sold as a complete package. Over on Reddit people talk about needing to buy 5 at once to ensure they have enough spare nozzles/hotends because of semi-frequent nozzle clogs that they're unable to clear. Are you seriously celebrating being locked into an ecosystem with no aftermarket and minimally user-serviceable parts?

@@FilamentFriday For sure! But after years of "tinkering" with enders it's pretty awesome to just hit print on a Bambu lab and it prints. No more crazy profiles, no workarounds, no buying 3d party nozzles to fix something that should work. :) Once you get an AMS and starting printing multicolor and multimaterial you can never go back to old school 3d printing. Wait till you try printing support interfaces with PETG while printing PLA..

Does not matter if the hot end system is better one if the cost is above what most users can afford?
The Printer even now with all the price drops is still a premium pricey printer which is above most users budget.
So expecting them to then pay out double the already pricey hot end cost for a fancy high end higher cost hot end replacement is too much.
Some better off users can't seem to understand why most of the lower paid hobby users in 3D printing can't just go out and buy this or that fancy very pricey part!
And I am sure like allot of users I like others get annoyed by the better off lot telling us "oh but that part is only $$$$ so why not but that?"
There is a two tier of users in any hobby, there is the I can buy anything and upgrade it without caring about prices!
And the rest who not so lucky and often have to stick to a low amount of spare funds and get the lower end in the hobby and the parts. And has to save up for stuff.
But still we hear fro those lucky to spend big, that we all should just get it because it is better!
I work a very hard job and pay for all my bills and have a low wage. I have to save up a long time to buy any 3D printer or upgrade.
and it does for me like others, get up nose how the well off lot with the money to buy over $1500 or more 3D printers
still even now berate us online for not getting what they see as good high end stuff?

After what I’ve seen people spend to upgrade their $200 Ender 3, a K1 on sale for under $400 is actually a better deal.
